Unfortunately, our experience at the deck was a 1 star experience. Besides the fact that they made it extremely difficult to sit us outside even though several tables were open and we explained it was a special occasion. They were super passive aggressive. If your restaurant is called at the deck, you can assume people want to sit outside. The service was also terrible. They mixed our drinks up twice and forgot we ordered several things. They never gave us water and it was impossible to flag them down when we had issues. You walk up and feel a gorgeous breeze and a great view of the water. We were really early so we sat at the bar and had a drink, so relaxing on a beautiful night. I said I'd like to start with the scallops and pork belly appetizers, the scallops were over seasoned and the pork belly was overcooked and almost impossible to eat. I got the burger which came out at the same exact time as my appetizer, how do you eat both at the same time?? My burger came without cheese and the fries were cold, by the time my husband went and hunted down our waiter for my cheese everything was ice cold, the fries had they been warm would have been delicious. My husband got the lobster roll which he said was really good. Atmosphere was lovely (decorated for Christmas!) Sarah and Reggie took great care of us- felt like we were special guests! They were so sweet and service was great. Also want to note that they were great with my peanut allergy- very attentive and thoughtful and thorough. I got the steak frites which were good and reasonably priced! My friend got the strawberry salad which she said wasn't great but fine (in case you don't know this either- gorgonzola is a kind of blue cheese!) Came here for the views. The menu did not have a lot of options. Esp. no vegan or vegetarian options. Should be a good place for seafood. Loved the fries and taziki sauce. The falafel was bland and hard inside. The chicken sandwich had a sweet taste throughout. The pickles weren't great and it had a cinnamon taste to it. The deck had a good ambience. To be clear we just had drinks that were tasty, but the 5 stars are for the friendly service from the bartender. My wife and I were getting away from teaching and home for a few days in Newport and we wanted a drink by the water so we went to the deck. It was early and a little cold so the deck was empty with no people or service but the friendly bartender let us have our drinks, in proper glasses( I hate plastic) and go out and sit out on the empty deck. I love a place that has happy friendly people so hats off to him for letting us have an amazing view all to ourselves. read more

I had such an amazing experience eating at the deck with my family and most importantly my furry friend Rufus. I went to Newport to visit and brought my dog along so it was nice to find a place that allowed dogs. We sat outdoor and had an AMAZING waitress. She brought us water for my dog and was just super kind and friendly. The owner of the deck is so invested in his brand and likes to test our different drinks. He had a new machine and created a frozen drink with some pink Whitney which he gave samples out for. I ended up getting the full drink because it was sooo good. The lobster rolls were really really good and juicy. The manager was also very attentive and went around to different tables to check up on all the customers. I'd definitely go back again to the deck when I go visit Newport. I'd 100% recommend this place to everyone. read more

I ordered the salmon poke bowl from here yesterday. The food tasted great, the wait staff was very kind, and it was an overall good experience. A few hours later, I developed food poisoning. I hadn't eaten anything other than this yesterday evening, so I'm confident that it was the cause. Update: My mom spoke with the owner regarding the situation, who was very surprised and apologetic. He himself was eating a poke bowl at the time. He offered to remedy the situation with a comped meal or a gift certificate, which we are supposed to receive via e-mail. My mom informed him that we truly just wanted to let him know to avoid the situation from happening again. I hate to say anything negative about this restaurant, but five days and an urgent care visit later, I'm still dealing with the ramifications of this meal. To those eating here, perhaps choose a dish without raw fish in it. read more

I'm so glad we stumbled upon this hidden spot! We were looking for dog friendly restaurants in Newport and this place had the highest rating on Bring Fido. It's off the main drag and it's right on the water! A great spot to enjoy boat watching! The food was excellent! I enjoyed a tuna poke bowl and my husband devoured his overflowing lobster roll. Tasted like milk and ice. Had already ordered food. Burger and lobster roll. Fries were cold upon arriving at the table. It was a sad presentation. The manager comes out to apologize and remedy the situation. Declined the offers, I said just replace the fries and cancel the burger. Brings out, "fresh fries". This place is a hidden gem in Newport. My planning could be much better, so in my usual fashion I tried to make a reservation for several of the most popular restaurants in town late afternoon. Even though it was a Sunday, none were available. So, I checked The Deck, where I've been n to several times over the years. We were in luck, lots of choices available. When we got there for our 7:30 reservation there was live entertainment on the deck, fairly loud, and only a handful of customers at the outdoor tables. We elected to sit inside so we would be able to enjoy conversation with each other. The hostess walked us in and we're surprised to see only one table occupied and the bar completely empty. As you can expect, this was a bit unsettling. Was there something about this place we didn't know? (Spoiler alert, dinner was fabulous). According to the manager, their big nights are Thursday through Saturday. We chose to sit at the bar which overlooks the kitchen so we could talk with the chef, a pleasant friendly fellow. The manager was our bartender and server.he was helpful, friendly and attentive. Because things were very slow, the attention was a bit overbearing, but not obnoxious. We ordered our drinks, which were very good. The menus are very cool. They have lights in them so you can actually see without a flashlight! The menu wasn't large and favored pasta, chicken and seafood. Seafood choices were mussels, Shrimp, scallops and swordfish. We ordered a caesar salad, which was enough for both of us to share. For our main entrees we had shrimp scampi over linguini and scallops over risotto. The shrimp was good, not over the top good but what you would expect shrimp scampi to be. It came with enough shrimp to satisfy, all lined up around the rim of the bowl. Nice presentation. The scallops were the big winner. Four sea scallops, beautifully seared on a wonderfully prepared dollop of hollandaise, with a nicely sculpted mound of risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly, the hollandaise very tasty and the risotto perfect. So, all in, don't be put off if you find the place empty. It is a hidden gem in Newport! And by the way, if you are coming by dinghy, there is a convenient public dinghy dock across the parking lot at Sisson's Wharf, to the north of Casey's Marina. read more

We stopped in on a sweltering Friday afternoon on the verge of overheating. We got some waters and then followed it up with a bunch of drinks. It was a nice outdoor place that was almost fully covered with some areas in the sun. They had live music which was pretty good and the bartender was good too. Prices are fair. $5-6 a beer and a little more for mixed drinks. We tried to return late night on Saturday to find a $10 cover. My days of paying a cover to get into a bar are long gone. Especially when we just planned to have one more drink. It seemed like it turned into a full blown club atmosphere at night and definitely attracted a much younger crowd. read more

My 8 friends and I had the worst experience at the deck when we came here for dinner. We were seated at 6:45PM and waited 10 minutes before our waitress Jen greeted us. She took our drink orders and then we waited 20 minutes before I had to go upto the bar to ask for water for our table. Jen brought over water for only half of our table and said "this is all we have right now" which was weird because it's tap water. She said the drinks would take a while because there was only one bartender on, even though our party and one other group were the only people in the restaurant. Our dinner took an unreasonable amount of time to come out. Jen told us our food would come out soon but then came back to the table shortly after and said "I lied your foods not ready". Our dinners came out at 8:20PM, almost 2 hours after we ordered. Half of our meals were cold, the lobster in the pasta was very chewy and didn't taste fresh, and my friend ordered the Swordfish received a small piece of fish, ONE piece of asparagus and the 2 ends pieces of a potato. Not once did Jen check in on us to see how things were and any drinks we re-ordered took at least 10-15 minutes to arrive. I spoke to the manager Reggie about how horrible our experience was and he was very apologetic. To make up for all the mistakes, he simply offered a round of drinks on the house. We went to the outside bar for our round of drinks and the bartender was very rude and visibly rolled his eyes when we placed our orders. Lastly, two people were having sex inside the bathroom in the restaurant. This is one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. I work in the food/beverage industry as a Catering Manager so typically I am very understanding of issues but so many things added up to make this night a horrible experience. read more

This was a deeply mediocre experience. Despite good service, the food all came out lukewarm to cold. Most of us ordered the clam chowder, which would have been great, had it been hot. A few ordered the fish tacos that were inedible, neither friend finished their dish. The lobster rolls were solid but again came out slightly cold for hot rolls. We also tried the lava cake, which... you guessed it... came out cold -- this is a pretty critical element for a "lava" cake. The venue is a good option for large groups and bad weather with the large tent outside. However, I'd likely look for other options next time around. read more

My fiancée and I went to dinner and our waiter Pierce was very professional checking in while allowing us to move at our own pace. Being on the dock was cool despite the chilly weather and breeze. It was moderate level of sound until about 7pm when people were coming in solely for the bar. The sangria was good, red sparkling was what my fiancée ordered. The mint Tito's drink I ordered had club soda and ginger ale and when it came out it was flat and the taste was kind of funky. We got calamari and it appeared to be tasty and the white wine sauce was good. I think we ended up eating some undercooked fish... see below for more for *** section*** The lobster role was awesome and the swordfish was solid nothing more nothing less and was well cooked. **** section*** We both got back home after walking around town for a while and we both got sick. I've had a killer stomach ache and my fiancée threw up... the calamari might have been slightly undercooked. The food was good taste wise just didn't sit well unfortunately. This place exceeded our expectations! The host remembered our phone call from earlier requesting an outdoor seating table. Such a sweet guy. He made it happen and we were lucky enough to catch a beautiful sunset from the deck! We were greeted by our waiter, Kenny, and he was amazing. Funny, quick, and personable. If you want a great neighborhood seafood restaurant that's on the water and has a great party atmosphere, you'll want to plan to have lunch or dinner at The Deck! While we had a reservation, we still had to wait for at least thirty minutes but it was so relaxing talking to the other waiting guests as we took in the aromas of the many meals being served, that it was almost anticlimactic when we were finally seated! The owner, at leSt he described himself as the boss, who was also the Maitre'd was so caring and concerned that we were being kept waiting, that I felt he deserved a special thanks! Robert was so so so nice and friendly, Brian our waiter was awesome and hard working and the DJ played great music. The good review stops there TLDR: the bartender at the end of the night took my cardigan (which had my phone on top of it) and used it to wipe down the bar. We arrived for our reservation time and were accommodated right away. We sat at our table and our waiter was extremely overwhelmed with the amount of tables they were assigned. They came over to us immediately and we weren't ready yet and asked for a few minutes. 25 minutes later they finally came back and we placed our order. As we're waiting for the food to come out a large group of early 20-somethings started to take over the area right in front of our table. At one point they took the extra chairs from our table without asking if they were being used and then proceeded to take chairs from surrounding tables and place them, no exaggeration, against our table. When we asked them to give us some space to enjoy our dinner the group suggested we move to another table. After more and more of them arrived, we finally did just that. The food was mediocre at best. The DJ was great so we decided to hang out by the bar and order some drinks. Bar tender started out good but then started to automatically add gratuity to our bills (we were tipping well on the previous bills that didn't have gratuity included). Still, despite the food situation and the gratuity situation we were having a good time. That was until one of the bar tenders or wait staff (I didn't see this person behind the bar previously) Took my cardigan, which was folded up small and had my phone on top of it, and cleaned the bar with it. When I turned around to see my cardigan was gone I looked around and realized it was in his hand and said hey that's my cardigan. He, without any apology or even being shocked that it was my cardigan and not a rag, handed it back to my husband. Given that my cell phone was on top of it and it was folded at the end of the bar made him taking it feel intentional and his lack of remorse reaffirmed that feeling. We were so upset we left right away but I truly wish I had complained and said something when it happened. Chef's Mattie's Mussels are nothing to write home about. Penne alla Vodka was a bit mushy. Seafood Fra Diablo while okay was $36 dollars for a dish that should be more like $21. Drunken Noodle Pasta felt like it was SLAPPED together. Swimming in oil and salty. Menu doesn't have much on it. You know you are in trouble when french fries and brussel sprouts are on the appetizer list. There are no views for inside seating. I tried this restaurant for the simple fact i'm on a quest to try all the restaurant in Newport. There are much better options in the area. We wanted to go to a place where we can sit on the patio by the water. We had an early dinner here, so the patio was not crowded at all, and the view was amazing with good weather. I ordered the chicken wrap which was average to me, it could have used more spices, but it was decent. They had a local band playing, and they were decent. I misplaced/lost my wallet there last weekend, and the staff have gone out of their way to check the cameras, review the footage, find my wallet, and even return it to me. The management was incredibly rude and disrespectful. We had a standing reservation and were told after waiting several minutes that we were too drunk to be seated. Myself and the other guest had two drinks previous to arriving and were looking forward to an enjoyable experience. However, after we waited for a moment, the restaurant threatened they would call the police and were incredibly short and unkind. I have quite literally never experienced such poor customer service to this degree. I only wanted to be seated and served dinner, however, the manager on duty took it upon himself to verbally abuse myself and my friend when we're happy to just wait for our reservation. They will declare that myself and my guest were intoxicated, however, being treated as disrespectfully as we were after TWO drinks is unreasonable and incredibly offensive. Nicely located on the water overlooking a marina. The rest of it is merely 'meh'. Drinks are weak and expensive. Could overlook that considering the location but the Mojitos have no mint leaves, whatsoever. They use 'mint syrup' we were told when questioning the far-too-clear concoction presented.
