The Dapper Goose has really changed since we last visited. It appears they have remodeled to adjust to business with Covid. Gone is the long bar lined with bar stools. The bar has been significantly trimmed down and contains no seating. Tables are very spread out to accommodate social distancing. The menu is very limited and the choices are unique, however if your tastes are adventurous it will be a meal you enjoy. For appetizers we chose the ricotta toast and blackened green beans. Both items were excellent. The ricotta toast had a refreshing citrus flavor to it. The blackened green beans came with a spicy aioli. My wife went with the burger and fries for her meal. She enjoyed it but wished the fries had been fresh cut. I chose the pork shoulder and found it to be very good. For dessert we chose to share the ice cream, which came with three scoops, smoked apple pie, choco coffee brownie and cherry choco almond. I found the smoked apple pie to be the best. We enjoyed our meal but I think not everyone would be able to find something on their menu. I recommend dining here but suggest looking at the menu first and dining with an open mind. Everything we ate was delicious, the staff was awesome and the restaurant is going out of their way to insure their customers are safe. read more

Last minute dinner plans here while on vacation and I am so happy we tried it out. Not going to lie, from the outside, it doesn't look like much, but it's cute and cozy inside. I cant say enough nice things about the staff here, everyone was so friendly and really got to know you as a customer. The menu is simple, and it states it changes often. We ordered the cheese plate which had 3 different cheeses. It was phenomenal. The waiter explained each cheese and the pairings. I ordered a crab fettuccine dish which was rich and flavorful. This place is the perfect place for a nicer date night. From their dimly lit restaurant but still really nice decor to the professional and friendly service, they really know how to make everyone feel welcome. I believe their menu also changes from time to time and they have plenty of gluten free options which is always a bonus! Fish and seafood is always a risk to order in Buffalo but this one did not disappoint at all. I ordered the halibut topped with a bourbon peach sauce, zucchini, fennel and plum. Everything was cooked to the perfect texture and taste; soft but still firm and still retains the flavor mixed together in the dish. Trust me, you can tell the difference in the quality of food sourced here, level of cooking and presentation/care put into their food. This is a place you have to try at least once. read more

Stopped into The Dapper Goose yesterday for Sunday brunch. My mom won a gift certificate that she wanted to use up in one visit so to say the least, we went a little crazy. We got there around noon and were seated immediately (it was Super Bowl Sunday, so I think that worked in our favor for not having to wait for a table since they don't take reservations for brunch). To start we ordered the bread basket and cheese plate. There was a nice variety of different types of bread and I loved the jam that came with it. My mom and I were in cheese heaven with the cheese plate. The stichelton is a new found favorite of mine as it was nice and smokey. The cremeux des citeaux reminded me a bit of baked brie. It was easily spreadable and we ate it right up. I definitely recommend only get one or the other when it comes to this since it's a TON of bread to eat. For my entree I got the dipping eggs 2.0 and I was a bit mad at myself for stuffing myself with so much bread because I could've devoured the entire thing easily. The tomato, ricotta and egg all together was so good! The presentation for all of our dishes was perfect and everything tasted as good as it looked. Our server was Edward and he was very nice and took good care of us. From what I could tell he did a great job of taking care of all of his tables at one time. There was also a girl who I'm assuming was the server assistant (she was wearing an initialed necklace, I think it was either an A or a K) and we were all extremely impressed with how quickly she came over whenever one of our water glasses needed to be replenished as well as our coffee. The bar had ample seating as well and there is a half wall in the middle of the restaurant separating the dining area from the bar. The bathrooms were also clean and super cute! Absolutely delicious from drinks to dessert. We stopped in Buffalo on our way back from Cleveland and found this gem of a restaurant. My husband and I loved the cocktails. My teen daughter mentioned mocktails and the bartender surprised her with one that she said was amazing. Service was perfect. Laid back atmosphere. There is a patio out back. Our dinners were all perfectly done and we shared a lovely dessert. I took a copy of the menu back to the Hotel Henry where we were staying and gave it to the desk so that they could recommend it to guests (their restaurant was not open yet.). What an AMAZING restaurant! From start to finish I was extremely impressed. Definitely a place that takes pride in their food and service!! The waitress and other workers worked seamlessly together and created a perfect dining experience! The waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful regarding the menu...food/drink. Silverware was replaced after each course and delivered to you via platter..I appreciate fresh cutlery! The decor and every touch of this restaurant was well thought through. The menu is one that changes which I love! Would HIGHLY recommend. And they serve brunch! I WILL be returning to check out what that's all about! Ordered: the special addition to the menu... striped bass atop paella with clams and mussels and the most flavorful broth!!!!!!! Also small plates of ricotta toast and brussel sprouts with sweet potato hummus. For dessert:olive oil cake with lemon curd, whipped cream and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Everything was cooked to perfection and presentation was on point! I literally have no complaints or critiques for this restaurant...If I could give it more than 5 stars I would without question! The Dapper Goose is definitely one of my favorite new restaurants to come to Buffalo in the past few years! They got everything right- the food, atmosphere, service and cocktails! I went for dinner on a Friday night with a group of friends. We all wanted to try everything, so we split several plates: 1. The Pickles Plate - Delicious, homemade, unique, perfectly paired with the cheese 2. Selection of Three Cheese: First Light Chevre, Harbison, Underpass - all were phenomenal and paired with a great side. I found out that our server, Juan, used to work for Murray's Cheese in NYC, which is one of my favorite restaurants! If you need any help deciding on which cheese to order, ask for Juan. He knows his stuff! 3. Blackened Green Beans - Served with burnt aioli and pepitas. I don't even like green beans and I thought this was yummy. 4. Ricotta, Toasted Almonda and Fermented Honey - Served on fresh bread. Sweet and delicious! 5. Korean Fried Chicken, Kimchi Fried Rice & Spicy Cucumbers* This was absolutely incredible! It was our favorite dish of the night. It was so unique! It was the perfect amount of spicy, tangy and sweet. 6. Short Rib, Mole, Crispy Masa & Ginger Crema - This was also fantastic. The short rib was so tender and flavorful! 7. Olive Oil Cake - Very simple and tasty. A light and satisfying end to a heavy meal. The wine list and cocktails menu is fabulous. We had a meal at The Dapper Goose for the SO's birthday with the parents who had previously eaten here and enjoyed their meal immensely. However our trip was pretty mediocre. All of the featured drinks were wine spritzes and most of us got the one with sake and yuzu and it was absolutely fabulous with some really unique and pleasant flavors. It was the best item of the night. We tried the blackened green beans and they were very good as well though maybe a touch too heavily seasoned. We also had a sausage plate to share that was pretty good. All downhill from here. Dad ordered the korean fried chicken and it might have been the best of the mediocre dishes but he said it was overdone. Mom had an overcooked fish filet. The SO had a very boring dry burger with way too much onion jam. And I had a very dry overcooked pork schnitzel with a confusing yogurt based green sauce drizzled over it that didn't give it any flavor. Maybe we came on an off night or when they were training a new cook but it was not the amazing dinner we'd been expecting. I can say after my first time here that their Goose was definitely not Cooked. this restaurant showcases New American Cuisine with Asian flair thrown into the Mix. Edward Forster is one of those Men of many Talents and he told me to stop in sometime, so when I got invited to attend a Nickel City Chef show (featuring Onions). Then realized that it was only just a 14 minute walk from Artisan Kitchen & Baths, I couldn't resist. This Eccentric stop on my Buffalo Food list got me wondering (where did the name come from). I asked and I they told me that on the way to work the owner was in such a rush that he ran over a Goose and he wanted to give it a Proper Funeral so he dressed it up in a Tuxedo to made him look Dapper. (Strange, yet at a loss for words at the Moment). To start the Meal off I ordered 2 Appetizers, Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Chopped Walnuts Asian Pears and coated in a Miso Mustard and a Parsnip Bisque with Kimchi Crab Salad, Diced Apple and a Cacao Oil. Crisp & Brown Leaves make these Sprouts a Tender Treat with Texture and Tartness (from this Apple/Pear Hybrid), evenly coated by this Savory Mustard that had a Salty Finish (not in a Bad way either). The Bisque invites you in for a Spoonful by the Mesmerizing Swirl of the Cacao Oil which Decadence harmonizes with the Nutty flavor of the Parnsip (aka Winter Carrot). Bits of Perfectly Brunoised Apples, left in their Raw State to give Texture and the Kimchi/Crab Mixture rounds out the sweet with some Heat, Sweet, Spicy and a hint of Bitter on the End. To round off 2 Heavy Hitting appetizers, I partook in a Drink that the unusual combination of Flavors left me Flabbergasted. It was called Broken Garden Tools (Gin, Celery, Lemon, Parsley, Moroccan Spice & Cracked Black Pepper). I was first turned off by its Yellowish-Green Murky appearance with bits of Black Peppercorn floating aloft in the Glass but I went for it and that first hit was unexpecting. The Celery flavor was pretty forward, the Parsley added Herbal notes, the Lemon gave it some Tartness, the Spice (along with the Black Pepper) hits you in the Mouth with a Subtle kick of Heat. I never knew something so unexpected could taste so oddly Refreshing ?! While waiting for my Entrée, Ed Forster stopped in to check on something in the Back (I told him Great stuff so far), such a Tour de Forster. Then my Entrée came, Korean Fried Chicken with Spicy Cucumbers and Kimchi Fried Rice. This dish brought Brash Heat as I dug my Knife & Fork into the Crimson Leg and took my first bite on that Crispy Skin, the crunch was so Crisp and so loud that I think that people within a 10 Mile Radius could've heard it, the Cucumbers (which were pickled) tamed the Heat a bit and the Rice had a Mild Mannered flavor with the bite of the Cabbage resonating throughout. To end my Meal, I mostly wanted something to Refresh my Palate after all the enticing Flavors it took on. So I got a little bowl of Mango Sorbet that was accented with Cardamom & Saffron. You get that Sweetness from the Mango and then a Fragrance from both the Spices that slightly coats your Mouth (don't mistake the bits of Saffron for Red Sprinkles). I couldn't think of a better way to end my Day than with a Dinner that (from start to finish) had a Big Bang !!! read more

What an eclectic vibe in the dapper goose...craft cocktails were fabulous! We ordered the fingerling potatoes with a broken egg yoke which had a farmhouse taste. The beetroot tartine was a tasty appetizer. My sister and I ordered the tile fish which was very delicate with a buttery flavor. Served with parsnip purée and sunchokes, which were like a crispy potato but different taste inside...very unique. Edward was very accommodating and helpful with suggestions. I made a reservation here after wanting to go for months. I was so excited. The room was warm and cozy, and the staff was helpful and friendly. However, after I ordered , I unexpectedly felt ill, so I couldn't eat or drink. All of the food looked incredible (green beans, eggplant and cauliflower shared plates), but I was in so much pain I just couldn't take a bite. The waiter sensed I was not feeling well, and very kindly took my cocktail off the tab because he knew my upset stomach that was the only reason I didn't drink it. I took the leftovers home, and they were AMAZING. So delicious and fresh. I am definitely going back!! read more

It's just ok. While visiting from New York City, my friend (a local) and I came for brunch. Luckily, there was no wait and we were seated immediately. We both ordered the scrambled eggs, hash browns and sausage. I don't eat meat, so I asked if they could make the order without sausage. They were happy to oblige, and offered to add grilled broccoli to the plate instead - for a $2 upcharge. I went ahead with it, but was annoyed that a charge for such a substitution is a policy here. It's essentially a " financial punishment" for not eating meat. On a menu where vegetarian options are close to nonexistent, this move was unwelcomed. The food itself did not do it for me. The hash browns (McD's style, not cut up potatoes, FYI) were so greasy I couldn't finish them. The eggs were not seasoned at all, though they did accommodate my request to have them soft scrambled. The grilled broccoli was so bitter I didn't eat more than one floret. I suspect for meat eaters this is a wonderful dining destination, it just didn't quite hit the mark for me. read more

I typically only dine in establishments of this quality/price point for special occasions, and I tend to prefer a decent $10 plate over a remarkable $20 one. Call me misguided if you will, but I'm a simple woman when it comes to food! Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at The Dapper Goose. I brought my boyfriend for his birthday a couple of weeks ago on Thursday night and although there were other diners, it was relatively quiet. We decided to go "all out," which for us just means ordering appetizers AND entrees. We got the three-cheese platter to start. We are not cheese connoisseurs by any stretch of the imagination and I honestly had no idea what I was eating, but I fell in love with the Prufrock (the only name I remember, conveniently!). The other two cheeses were harder and a bit too sharp for my taste, but the pairings (apple, honey, and pear respectively with bread on the side) were spot on. For our second appetizer, we got the charred green beans, which were totally unique and delicious. Very strong flavors, though, so I'm glad we finished the cheeses first because that may have impaired our ability to taste the more delicate flavors. For my entree I got the pappardelle pasta with squash, mushrooms, and pepitas. This pasta was seriously the bomb. I could tell it was homemade and the texture was to die for. The combination of ingredients was, once again, not intuitive to me, but the flavors melded perfectly and it was completely delicious. The chewy, meatiness of the mushrooms and crunch of the seeds kept things interesting as well. My boyfriend got the duck confit and was too busy eating to comment on the dish, so I'm guessing it was good. The service was seriously above and beyond... our server was knowledgeable about each dish, answering our questions and seeming genuinely excited about the food he was serving us! Although a $100 price tag on a dinner for two is not prohibitive for some, it's definitely more than I can afford with any regularity. And that's without drinks or dessert. I'm sure I'll be back again, however - I'd love to check out the outdoor seating in the summer months, and the mix of surprising flavors and comfort food-type fare with excellent service put my rating solidly in the 4-star category. read more

A very nice experience that is not your average run of the mill place. My friends and I had a combination of several small plates so we could try things. Not one plate had anything on it when we were done. It is quirky and inventive and delicious. Locally sourced in season so it is not the same all of the time. Adventurous palettes will like it here. The only other place that I could compare it to food-wise is WaxLight. Much different atmosphere but they're also doing fun new things with locally grown seasonal vegetables. read more

It was an absolute delight to dine here. Their menu features farm fresh items, lending itself to regular rotation and new dishes depending on the season. The one thing that truly shines is their cheeseboard. With an option of 1, 3 or five, they pair the cheese with pickled items and other accoutrements -- my mind was blown with some of the pairings we tasted. It was easily my favorite part of the dinner. The wine options were well thought out and I enjoyed a rosé and a refreshing French white. Since we had the cheeseboard, we shared entrees, going with the pork shoulder over a white bean puree with brussels sprouts and duck+strawberry salad. The warm months bring the most spectacular time to dine in their back patio seating area. You're immediately transported to another world. The garden seating is quiet, cozy, and tucked away from the city bustle. Service is top notch here. We had a lovely conversation with our server, adding another layer of excellence to the evening. Drinks were delicious (we had multiple rounds) and the food was very impressive. We had the burger which was a great spin on an American favorite. I went back the following weekend to sit at the bar and have a few small plates. The brussel sprouts and the beet dish are exceptional for a small bite, not to mention the ricotta fig toast. I feel like I'll not do this review or establishment justice as it's been a couple of months since our dinner there and some of the details (small and large) escape me at the moment. Suffice it to say, however, that this was THE BEST meal I've had probably in the past ten years, maybe even longer. DEFINITELY the best meal I've had in Buffalo. Went with the wife on a date night. We had...drinks. I don't remember what they were called, and only vaguely remember the details (wife's had gin and berries, mine was bourbon-based), but I remember them being fanfkntastic! The Mrs. had 1.5, I had 3.5, and each sip was as good as the last. Major kudos to the bartender here. Appetizers Beetroot tartine with horseradish cream cheese and crispy chickpeas was clean, precise, and delightful. Every component added to the dish, without overpowering the others. The beets were earthy in the best sort of way, and the bread was the perfect vehicle. After the first sip of drink and first bite of the tartine, I knew I was in for a great experience here. Chicken liver mousse was completely astonishing. It was creamy and silky, salty and fatty, and mouthwatering. I appreciated the outrageous mousse to bread ratio, which encouraged shoveling large gobs of the stuff into my face. I just looked at their current menu online and it isn't there, and I feel sorry for all the people that won't be able to experience this, at least for the foreseeable future. That's how good it was. Entrees I had the duck leg confit with spinach and white miso glaze. The miso was perhaps on the saltier end, but was absolutely appropriate given the richness of the duck, which itself had perfectly crispy skin and moist meat. A hit of acid (as in lemon, not LSD) would've been nice, but I ain't complaining here; I'd eat this every day if my wallet and arteries would oblige. The Mrs. had the lamb with white beans, pickled cherry tomatoes, and Napa cabbage. Everything was perfect. Dessert The pot de creme was the ideal simple dessert to end our meal, and executed appropriately. Comes with some tasty cookies, too. Overall From the drinks, to the food, to the staff (attentive but not overbearing...for example I spazzed at one point and a giant hunk of beet+bread landed on the floor approximately ten feet away, which was cleaned up discreetly not five seconds later), this was an ideal dining experience. We stopped in shortly after 5:00 on a Saturday for a couple drinks and starters. We ordered the mycella cheese plate, pea bisque, and scallop crudo. To drink we ordered the Little Chicago and Show Me The Exit cocktails. All of the food was good, but I wouldn't say I was blown away by any of this dishes. We were a little surprised to see that the mycella was a bleu cheese, as the only description was "luscious, salty." Fortunately the wife and I love bleus, so it wasn't an issue, but those certainly aren't the first adjectives I would use to describe that cheese. The better of the two drinks was the Litttle Chicago. It was sweet and smoky, a combo I don't think I've ever experienced in a cocktail. It took me a couple of sips to acquire the taste but I was really enjoying it by the end. Ultimately the Dapper Goose didn't really stand much out for me, but overall it was a nice experience. 3.5 Stars. read more

Four of us went to the Goose for the first time and we were not disappointed. They have about 10 specialty cocktails on the menu, we tried a few, they were very creative. For small plates, we had cauliflower, ricotta toast, mushrooms, and brussel sprouts. They were all fan-tastic. For large plates we got spaghetti, duck pot pie, the burger, and Korean fried chicken, they were really really good. Deserts we had a selection of cheese and they were kinds we never heard of, and enjoyed them as well. Staff very attentive too. The only knock I would have on the place would be their alcohol prices. I think 12 and 13 is a little much for wine or cocktails, 8-10 would have been sufficient. We look forward to returning! read more

I really love the atmosphere of this place along with its small but intricate menu. Our server knew every inch of that menu and described the dishes in a way that made us want to eat all of them. I ended up with the broccoli small plate and then the Korean fried chicken which comes highly recommended - especially if you like spicy food - it was very spicy, but very delicious. The pot de creme wasn't the best I've ever had but it was certainly delicious. Have been here before but only for drinks. Had a reservation earlier in the evening for my birthday dinner. Their menu changes, and is smaller but amazing fall dishes. We shared the duck entree and the scallops. They were both incredible. Both dishes are not ones that I can create very easily at home. The texture and how they were cooked was amazing. Even with a lot of people in the restaurant, we did not feel crowded and were able to talk without difficulty hearing each other. Coffee was excellent and if you like horseradish; you must try a Bloody Mary! I wanted to try everything, but I couldn't even finish what I ordered because it was so hearty and generous. First time at the Goose since it was Black Rock Kitchen & Bar (was that the old place? -- honestly can't remember the name!) last night on an impromptu dinner date to break the winter blues. We've been meaning to come here since they opened, but somehow it always stayed just off our radar. Well, I wish we had gotten here sooner as this was one of the best dining experiences we've had in Buffalo in quite some time. Not only was the food excellent, but the service was fantastic as well. It was a sleepy Sunday evening, so perhaps that had something to do with the staff being extra attentive, but I hope this is how they roll every night. I knew this place would become a staple in our restaurant repertoire when our server ticked this one oft-neglected and unknown box: don't clear plates until EVERYONE is done. It's a bit old-school, but something I learned from a restaurant critic pal years ago. That etiquette scored big points with me and made me appreciate the service even more. The food was excellent. My wife and I shared the bread basket (the butter is a meal unto its own), pork belly over polenta, and the mushrooms served with red pepper puree and hummus. Each dish was excellent, and I'm totally stealing the mushroom idea for home and adding seared scallops to the top. We also split the burger, which was cooked perfectly and accompanied with house cut fries. That hit the spot. We weren't looking for dessert, but couldn't resist the house-made blood orange ice cream, as well as a couple scoops of the strawberry with peanut butter dough. Excellent. I will be trying to replicate this in my ice cream maker. The only criticism I have is that the wine list is a bit pricey and doesn't offer much traditional by-the-glass selection. The bottle list is interesting, but again, not much in the "entry level" categories. I skipped out on a cocktail but will definitely explore that menu upon our return. I hope Dapper Goose has staying power and becomes a mainstay in Buffalo cuisine, rather than so many of the "flash in the pan" openings that end up compromising on quality or clientele. Oh yeah, they don't have a TV!! I hate TVs in restaurants. Save it for sports bars. Sorry, Left Bank -- I love you but the TV is a downgrade. Get off my lawn! read more

This is a cute little place in the Black Rock neighborhood. Service was prompt and friendly. Atmosphere is casual and comfortable. Be forewarned, if small menus and dropping a good amount of cash isn't your thing, this place is not for you. This spot was picked on a whim since we had not heard of it. It would have been wise to check the menu first before making the reservation. Like I said, the menu is small, NOT a "something for everyone" selection. Prices are up there and the food is okay, but nothing spectacular. We started with drinks ($11 cocktail & $6 draft beer), then ordered the 3 cheese appetizer ($16) which comes with 2 small slivers of each type of cheese and a side of bread. It was tasty and we both enjoyed it. For dinner, my friend ordered the veal dish (I don't recall the price but it was around $28) and I had the halibut dish ($25), which again was good but nothing to get excited about. By the time dinner was said and done, our bill with tip for 2 people and a basic meal was over $100. Not what I had planned for the evening! Although it was nice and I am glad to have had the opportunity to try it out, I didn't personally find that there was anything special to make me rave about this place. Since our outing was a special occasion, we splurged. Due to the hard hit on the wallet (which admittedly was our own fault for not looking at the menu beforehand), I likely will not come back. There are many other amazing local places with bigger variety and reasonable pricing that appeal to me more than The Dapper Goose. 2 stars is my rating because I think it's over priced for food that is good, not great. read more

So, I'm usually not a fan of what I consider "bougie food" (I am like the food I enjoy: laid-back, casual, and all about comfort) but did enjoy myself with my husband on a date with friends at The Dapper Goose. The scene is tidy with tufted booth seating and a quaint outdoor space, complete with a repurposed garage to enjoy dinner. Dinner was pretty tasty. I had the confit duck with a black bean polenta cake and smidge of avocado. The duck was well prepared, not dry and very flavorful. My husband had the Korean fried chicken which is definitely one of their popular and tastier dishes -- as evidenced by the raving reviews. We had the blueberry ice cream for dessert that was homemade and pretty out of this world. Service was great with various people coming to the table every 5-10 minutes to refill our water glasses. (Yeah, they were on it.) All in all, The Dapper Goose was a nice experience full of farm-to-table feels. Seeing as my husband and I love restaurants that give you a bit more food for your buck (we had to stop for a burger for the guy after, lol), I don't foresee us coming here again for casual dining, but would consider it for a special occasion. read more

We liked the food and everything was delicious. It was a lovely and cozy place with good food. However I think it was a bit overpriced for the size of food. Staffs were brilliant! Olive oil cake was extraordinary! read more
