    Ribeye & Smashed Potatoes
    Rich H.

The food was good, but service was "meh". We got the beef bulgogi and a ribeye with smashed potatoes. The salad never came out, so they deducted $4 off the bill. Waiter stopped by once to check on us and we said the salad hadn't come out and he said he'd get one right out.... next thing we knew the bill was dropped. If the service were better, I'd give it 5 stars - the food was VERY tasty.

Wolf Burger and was super tasty. Fries were boring.

I tried the Wolf Burger and it was actually super delicious. The fries were just "okay". The staff was nice but we did notice a theme throughout our meal. The service was very, very slow. It took quite a while to get our food and just as long to get refills on our drinks. We actually had to flag them down and beg for refills. Also, we were there with kids and the place is basically a bar that happens to serve food. So honestly not the best environment.

A bar with not your typical bar food. Located in the heart of downtown custard, this eatery offers indoor, outdoor and bar seating. Exceptionally laid-back, and clearly a favorite of many locals, we were very happy to be seated at the bar and get to know the bartender who made us feel very welcome. The decor is very simple and the focus is on the people and the food. Full bar with many NA options. We were so pleased to find a fish dish that was not breaded, the walleye was exceptional. Wonderful side salads and I was able to enjoy a mixed vegetables with shrimp that allowed me to stick to my diet. The bread pudding was very tempting, but we stuck to our guns! Good value, good food, good people. Check out the customer wolf next time you're in the area.

My husband enjoying his Walleye and his Lost Cabin Beer

We were on a road trip to Sioux Falls SD, and we stayed in Custer, SD for 3 days. On our first day that we arrived friends recommended The Custer Wolf for dinner. We arrived around 5:45 and the restaurant was busy. We had a choice of sitting inside or sitting in the patio outside. We love patio dining so we chose to sit outside. My husband wanted to try a local draft beer, Jason our waiter suggested he try Lost Cabin Beer in a can. It is a local beer that tastes like a good draft beer. He ordered it and liked it! Almost Every time we went out he would order the Lost Cabin Beer. For dinner we ordered the Walleye, it came with a green garlic sauce on top of the walleye with jasmine rice and broccoli. This was one of my favorite meals, the fish was cooked perfectly. We enjoyed our meal, and the patio is not fancy but we enjoyed sitting outside. We highly recommend The Custer Wolf! When you visit this restaurant and you sit in the patio, ask for Jason is a wonderful waiter! He is friendly, has a great sense of humor and is attentive. It was a joy having him as our waiter.

This is going to be a split review. First the good...service gets a 5. These folks HUSTLE! They were so pleasant and even though they were busy kept smiling. Nice job. The food was also a 5. It was terrific. The walleye was flaky and rhe sauce, superb. The green bean appetizer was scrumptious with a sauce that had a nice kick. Now for the less tgan stellar part. The restaurant itself is cute, it has indoor and outdoor seating. We chose indoor but had to contend with such fly distractions that it took away from the experience. Otherwise it would gave been a 5 all around.

A hodge podge of seating arrangements. A bar type area, a middle regular cafe feel and a patio with a variety of furniture seating. Jason was helpful and very friendly, the service here is top notch. My husband had an issue with a salad where he couldn't substitute a dressing they took his salad back no questions asked. I had a walleye po boy not too greasy and flavorful. Recommend it for sure .

Enjoyed dinner at The Custer Wolf. We sat outside because it was busy at the time and that's all they had available, which was fine. It is a covered area that kept us dry despite the rain. I was excited to see Moose Drool on the beer menu, but to my disappointment, it was not available. I had a similar style beer from Wyoming and it was good. I had fish for dinner and it was great, along with the coconut rice. A chill place to relax and have a great meal.

Quick service and tasty food. My dad and I got the walleye po'boys and he got the potato smashers, while I got the coconut rice. The rice did have a strong flavor of coconut, but could've been a little moister. Similarly, the walleye po'boy could've used a little more tartar sauce, but did come with several pieces of walleye and was a very good portion. Prices were reasonable too. 2024 #46

Plenty of seating. The server was very knowledgeable on the menu items but I didn't catch his name. The green beans are great! The chicken strips were wonderful also. They were juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The sauces for dipping were all good. Only wish is they fried in tallow instead of canola oil.

Best place to eat in Custer, SD!! Vibe: Visiting Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse & Custer State Park Order: Beet salad with Berry Dressing, beef bulgogi with rice & broccoli, bread pudding (2) Price: $50 + tip Leftovers: for days Taste: Delicious !!! Parking: Difficult to find spots around Service: Excellent!! A definite must try if anywhere in the area! Menu changes at owners whim so I like the variety!

    The BCJ Burger

We were stopped in Custer for the night and many places were already closing at 7-7:30, so we hopped in to Custer Wolf around 7:30 and were out at 8:25, shortly after their 8pm closing time. We sat out on the covered patio, which was blocked well by the horizontal wood slates. It gave us enough privacy from the main road but still allowed us to look around. The food was great! On the burger, wish there had been a little more jalapeño cream cheese sauce but it still was a great burger. The smash potatoes were AMAZING and perfect in every way. The pasta a limone with chicken was delicious and creamy. I'd recommend either of those, and the other options on the menu sounded just as good!

Such a cute place and the burger was amazing. I wasn't a huge fan of the smashed red potatoes (they were dry) but overall I loved the experience. Our server was exceptionally kind, loved his vibe. The live music made the experience top notch.

The service is all order at the bar and then they'll bring the food to you from the disconnected kitchen. I ordered the Orange Chicken Bowl and my husband got their Chipped Beef Special. It was out to our table in about 10 minutes, and everything was fresh and piping hot! The orange chicken could've been mistaken for the packages they sell at Trader Joe's or Costco (and I mean that in the BEST sense - I LOVE those brands of orange chicken!), but the broccoli was obviously fresh and still had a nice crisp to it while being just the right amount of tender. The serving sizes are huge and we weren't able to finish both meals. There are pool tables inside that are extraordinarily expensive, so we only played about two games. There was extremely loud live music we weren't expecting the second night, so we sat outside on the patio to try and get a way from the volume, but we still returned for the ambience and the quick service.

Loved the wine tasting - I tried 5 local wines from wineries: Prairie Berry and Firehouse. The three Prairie Berry wines were all VERY fruity and sweet (two reds and one white). And the Calamity Jane blend is the sweetest they offer she said! The two Firehouse were tied for my favorite! Sangiovese and Syrah. It did NOT disappoint! My wine pourer was still getting to know the wines themselves - but she was super kind and lovely to talk to - thank you Moriah!! Mya helped us at the register and was equally amazing. A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Deadwood…read more My wife and I stumbled upon this incredibly unique and peaceful wine house just steps away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Deadwood--and what a discovery it was. In a city known for its casinos and saloons, this beautifully restored home offers an entirely different kind of experience: one centered around relaxation, quality, and taste. Housed in a gorgeously maintained historic property, this spot features multiple cozy rooms filled with elegant furnishings and stained glass windows, along with spacious porches both upstairs and downstairs where you can unwind with a glass or bottle of wine. The ambiance alone makes it worth a visit. The wine selection is top-tier and surprisingly affordable, especially for South Dakota. They offer a solid list of wines by the glass or bottle, but also have a curated room filled with exceptional bottles from around the world--at prices that beat anything else we saw in the area, whether in Custer or Deadwood. You can enjoy your wine there (with a small corkage fee) or take it home. To complement the wine, they serve thoughtfully arranged charcuterie boards featuring a variety of cheeses, fruits, and other healthy bites. You can also add sliced salami to customize your board further to enhance the experience. This isn't your typical restaurant or wine bar--it's more like being invited into someone's beautifully curated home for a relaxing afternoon or evening. It's a peaceful, upscale oasis in a town that can sometimes feel a little wild. Highly recommended if you're looking for something refined, memorable, and just a short stroll from the main strip.
