I have been to Custer Wolf twice now, and will definitely be returning. I loved the freshness and flavor of my food both times. I had a steak special during restaurant week and my steak was over-cooked. I order my meat rare, and expect it with a cool red center. Since moving to SD I have learned to tell them "VERY rare" or even "Blue" if I want it even close to rare. So that is what I did, and it was still medium rare to medium. It had good flavor. The server agreed it was overdone, but I kept it and ate it because they were super busy and I didn't want to wait and eat after my family was done. Yesterday I got a pasta dish with chicken, and the flavor of the sauce was amazing. However, my chicken was charred on the outside and dry inside. Both visits my meat has been overdone. So, if you are picky about the temperature of your meat be sure to communicate that in full. My husband loves every seafood dish he has had there. I do not eat seafood so I can just relay that he is a huge fan and says it is perfect. We love the atmosphere and the service has been great. I appreciate that they allow their customers to chose to wear masks or not. I know some people prefer businesses to wear them, so if that is you, you will really be happy about this fact. For our family, we prefer open faces and unmuffled communication, but I would not judge a business (or person) based on their choice and doing what they feel is best. read more

Absolutely loved this place. I had the walleye chermoula and a cup of their soup du jour which was creamy mushroom and both were insanely delicious. The kids had chicken tenders and could not keep quiet about how they were the best tenders they'd ever had, even told the waiter to tell the chef that they loved him. Our go to place at least once per week. Everything is cooked from scratch so not a bad thing on the menu. Noticed recent bad review so went in to see if something had changed. So happy to find the food was still top notch, had the Fish and Chips filled me which is usual with any of their meals. Had my nieces daughter with me so we shared the Bread Pudding which was great as expected. Probably only negative it can be hard to get in here during the summer with all the customers checking it out. Always lots of craft beers to check out. read more

The food here is delicious. I recommend the jalapeño bacon burger. The sauce is a little spicy but compliments this burger well. We came as a group of 7 at 1pm on a Saturday. I'd give it zero stars. Terrible food. I got the flatbread pizza and it was disgusting, chicken was all cartilage and burnt $14.00. My family got the fish and chips 19.00 each. Serving size was for a toddler. 2 fried fish, the tartar sauce was watery and gross. Definitely not worth 19.00$. Everyone was raving about the bread pudding, so decided to try it. That was like biting into sugar cubes. Couldn't even taste the bread pudding. No I would not recommend it. read more

Simple cafe, great stop for lunch between hikes. Food was decent and service was nice.

Went in at 4:30 hoping for a good meal and my Guinness. Ordered the Pub sandwich. Waiter informed that they were out of that item. So I settled on the BBQ on Flat bread. Went next door to shop a bit before the meal came only to have my wife call and tell me I needed to come back and look over the menu they were out of the flatbread item as well. So since I'm only a two strike kind of guy I just elected to stay with the Guinness. The waiter was nice and very apologetic but seriously folks. If your going to be open on a Monday you would think you would supply your kitchen with food to prepare. Not sure I'll go back. read more

We really enjoyed this place! Altho it was a beautiful day, they hadn't really opened their patio yet. But we had a dog so they let us have the one table on the patio so we could eat with our dog. The beer was good and our fabulous waitress, Mary, even brought beer samples she thought I might like. The food was great! Smartest restaurant in Custer SD We are on vacation - we are not on a schedule - we saw buffalo - we need to eat lunch. Every other restaurant in Custer is closed at 2:00 except the Custer Wolf (and it's during Sturgis). Cool bar menu. They were short staffed but let us know right away so we expected a wait and slower service. The food was good. Falafel burger was freshly made and moist inside. The coconut rice on the other hand was dry but had a nice flavor. The chorizo and shrimp pasta had a nice spice kick to it. This is a nice little pub style restaurant. The menu is not extensive but has a good variety of favorites. I had the Ranchers Pie, a full favored spin on Shepherds Pie. I asked for a side of sourdough bread which tasted homemade. A comfortable atmosphere. A mix of old west, and old mountain cabin antiques on the walls and interesting B&W photos n posters. My only negative feedback (why 4 instead of 5 stars) is that I wish they had an off-season menu for those of us who live in the area because their menu is PRICEY! My meal as seen in photo was $15. That does not include a drink or the bread (they gave me the bread since it was the end of the loaf, I appreciate that). The dish is def overpriced (nothing exceptional, serving size average but it did taste good!). I'm sure tourist will be ok with the cost. Not affordable for a family. Staff were friendly and efficient. They have WiFi which is a plus since most places in town do not. The place is clean and comfortable. Give it a try, but save up for your visit. read more

Slow kitchen and slow service, but the place was mobbed and I think they were doing all they could. You just have to wait in line to get in, which isn't great in bad weather.
