We were in the area, and wanted Buffet style meal. Close by is Dhanarani Express. The interior is comfy, and there is plenty of seating. It' directly parallel to the Direct Auto Insurance if you don't see it right away pulling in. They offer take out and a full menu other than their buffet. I love Indian food so I said yes. Got here first thing at 11:30 and were immediately let in and led to our table. Our server told us to give them ten minutes to have the full buffet up. We patiently waited, and it was WORTH the wait. Everything you see on my plate was delicious, flavorful, and a tad spicy. To be expected though. They get great reviews for a reason.

Open on Thanksgiving*, and cooking up a storm! For a smallish strip mall joint offering only takeout these days, this place has a diverse menu, and I tried to get a sense of the variety by trying a chole bhature (fried bread with chickpea curry) as well as a veg manchurian (cabbage balls in an Indo-Chinese sauce), and some sort of stewed okra I hadn't had before. I asked for all to be spicy, and they were. The chickpeas and bread was, for once, the right amount of chickpeas to use up one piece of bread. The range of vegetarian options and the ease of takeout (10% off coupon if you check the website as well) were a winner for me. *I certainly don't begrudge anyone who wants to take Thanksgiving off, but for those of us who are out on the day for any number of reasons, the few businesses that remain open are greatly appreciated. If Chinese food on Christmas is a tradition, let Indian food on Thanksgiving become one as well. It's what I cook when I have time.

Stopped in this place last Saturday for lunch and found out quickly that they only do buffets at lunchtime day in and day out. As a very keen Dharani fan from the original restaurant in Morrisville, I was happy to finally make it here, even though it was lunchtime and a buffet. I always think of buffets as a blessing and a curse! Personally, if you want to eat a lot of food that's great, and the food is great, the downside for me is I tend to eat more than usual, and mix too many different flavors together and perhaps don't enjoy the individual flavors of each dish. Does that make sense? This place has a very complete evening dinner menu, as I tried to show below. Which probably represents what it was when it was at the original Morrisville location. The food is excellent, the service at lunch was good, no alcohol served as far as I noticed, but the evening atmosphere I expect would be more white tablecloth, even if it isn't. The menu speaks for itself. It's definitely a place to check out, not just for the food but if you're ready for a buffet! I'm betting the ambiance is totally different in the evening.

Absolutely my favorite Indian food in the Triangle! I discovered Dharani Express last year and it's my go to restaurant when curry cravings hit. The food is so flavorful, spicy, and you'll come across whole spices while enjoying your dish. The restaurant isn't fancy but service is great and the food will have you coming back for more. My friend and I shared palak paneer, lamb vindaloo & Chicken Tikka Masala and we each had enough leftovers for another meal. Don't hesitate to check it out!

This is another little spot that I like to go for lunch. Service is always great, the guys are really friendly. Each time I visit, Dharani has customers buzzing around the the fully stocked buffet filled with well-prepared, spicy, mouthwatering vegetarian and meat dishes. Of course, my meal isn't complete without a serving of Carrot Halwa for dessert.

"Nepalese and Indian food in downtown Raleigh, near Marriott"…read more With a great location, this is VERY close to the Raleigh Convention Center. We arrived on a Thursday night at 6pm with a group of 5. The dining area didn't really accommodate a group that size, but they made it work by moving tables around, which was nice. The place was not very large, but there was maybe only one other family eating inside. The bathroom was clean. I split two dishes with my son-- salmon tikka masala and shrimp (prawn) saag, both coming with rice. We were given some papadum, I think, as a snack as we waited on the food, along with some spicy dips. Food came in maybe 10 minutes or so, which was great timing. However, I have to say, both dishes we tried were underwhelming. The shrimp was oddly translucent and not very flavorful in its dish, and the spinach in the saag wasn't especially tasty (though it did have a nice spiciness). The tikka masala sauce was great, but the salmon also was pretty underwhelming. We both said we'd probably just get chicken next time and not splurge the extra for the salmon. No dish was "bad", but just we expected them to be delicious and they were just OK. I'm just really surprised given how many people said this was the "best Indian" they'd had. The staff were friendly-- refilled drinks well and were good at answering questions. And the price was reasonable. Altogether, I'll give it 4 stars given the great location, good service, good price, but not 5 given the food was "just OK". Realistically, I probably wouldn't go back-- we have lots of great Indian in Durham and Chapel Hill, so I'd rather wait and get that.

There were so many great sounding options, but I hadn't had Indian food in a while, and Butter Chicken just sounded like it would hit the spot. The ordering is all done though a kiosk, which was easy, but just a little less personable. Once payment put in, they give you a "pager" so you can find a seat, and wait for the "page". The food didn't take too long, and my Butter Chicken tasted great. The portions were decent, and pricing ok. I wanted to get some garlic naan to go with it, but $4 seemed a bit excessive for one piece of flat bread, so i passed on that. Overall, it was a good experience, but very minimal customer service/interactions, made the whole thing feel a bit mechanical.

Instead, the man offered to remake and deliver my food. He took down my address and made sure to get this to me despite my order being placed at 11pm. The driver called to let me know he was on the way and he was so kind when delivering my food. The customer service was so beyond my expectations- which is an extremely important component of a business. They are under new management and I am just so impressed. I wish this restaurant much success going forward. Food: I ordered a large white rice, a medium spicy curry chicken, and garlic naan bread. Two words: FIVE. STARS. The food is as beautiful and delicious as the photos. There is something about Indian Food from a good local restaurant. You can just taste the love and time that went into this food. The garlic naan was fresh, pretty, and delicious! The curry chicken was perfectly seasoned and so was the rice. I've been craving Indian food for a week and it definitely hit the spot! It's a tiny restaurant nestled in a strip mall that has tables for dining in, although while we were there a steady stream of customers arrived to pick up their take out orders. A small basket of papadum was served with mint chutney, tamarind, and pickled onions. This was a nice touch and something that seems less and less common these days. Spinach is my favorite vegetable so saag with chicken was an easy choice. I ordered it 9 out of 10 on the spicy scale, so it while it had definitely had heat it was manageable and not punishing. It was very good and I would order it again. My dining companion ordered the Tikka Masala with lamb and not spicy. She thought it was good, but the chunks of lamb were very tough and chewy. The breads were a bit of a disappointment. My roti seemed more like naan and lacked the flakiness of traditional roti. The Peshwari naan definitely had a sweet taste, but was missing the bits of dried fruit and nut that makes it so distinctive. We both thought Basil n Spice was a 4-star restaurant, but the tough lamb and sub par breads bring it down to a borderline 3-star rating. Much to my delight when we got here, I discovered not only were their Thai and Chinese inspired stuff, there was a nice large selection of Indian options. She got some chicken lo main, and I got palak paneer. She got some spring rolls, and I got my favorite Samosas. I introduced her to the papadum and chutneys that were given before the meal and she was a trooper and tried them all. Food arrived, was hot, fresh, and delicious. With the samosas it was too much for me to finish my palak paneer and I'm eating it now as I type this up for lunch on Sunday. Lo mein was well liked, she doesn't have a spice tolerance though and a 3 was a bit much for her. she said the spring rolls were great, and had finished off the lomein she brought home by Saturday night.
