They have an AMAZING collection of local and international art, books, and other small finds that make it feel like a new experience every time you visit. They also have virtual art shows featuring new artists every month, offering them platform to show off new work in a time where it might not otherwise happen. Due to Covid, they've taken a lot of precautions for their customers and staff, which I really appreciate. Private shopping sessions can be booked online, and curbside pick up was a really smooth experience!

I was going to just stop in and buy one thing - I ended up spending the whole afternoon in the store, beginning a custom wedding ring project with Claire (the proprietor, who has a metal smithing operation right there and is able to size in the store), having my husband buy a print and leaving with some wonderful earrings by an artist in Vachon Island. Honed's northwest art noveau goth aesthetic is absorbing and compelling - it's unpretentious enough to mean they carry alpaca shoe inserts that keep your feet dry, therapeutic hippie soaps as well as the biggest selection of delicate gold and diamond stacking rings I've ever seen. The fine jewelry is where Honed is unique. I've never see such a great selection of wearable and accessible fine jewelry in Seattle - there is plenty of gold, agate. sun stone, opal and diamond jewelry here for under $600, even under $200. Claire is able to size and customize right away and she does custom work. Stacking rings are the specialty, which isn't quite my thing, but I found plenty that I loved there. Honed also sells Digsby and Iona, a selection of prints and astronomical charts and some more contemporary, artistic jewelry, along with gorgeous takes on pearl studs, diamond studs, black diamond studs, &c. It's small in size and has little or big treasures in every corner. It's not over crowded like many of the little stores in PPM. It as a nice boho feel with African, Indian and other culture art, trinkets, jewelry + more. I found a beautiful crystal snowflake ornament (I wish I purchased more than one). When we walked in, there was no greeting, which wasn't a big deal--we continued browsing. Eventually, one of the employees asked, "Looking for something?" We said nothing specifically, just browsing, and continued looking around. I found a few pieces I liked and asked if I could try something on. While trying on a Spinelli ring, I asked whether they carried it in other colors. The response was, "Well, we can order it for you if you wanted." The tone came across as incredibly dismissive. I then asked about the materials and how the mixed metals hold up with wear. The response was essentially, "Well, it's jewelry. It has wear and tear as you wear it." I was honestly taken aback. I wasn't asking an unreasonable question--I was genuinely trying to understand how the piece would hold up before potentially spending a significant amount of money on it. I explained that I own other mixed-metal jewelry and had experienced issues where the metals rubbing against each other affected the shape over time. She responded, "Well, I've never heard of that happening, and that makes no sense." At that point, I was just stunned by the level of condescension. I have never experienced customer service like this at a jewelry store, especially one selling pieces at this price point. I genuinely felt like I was being treated as though I didn't know what I was talking about rather than having a normal conversation with a potential customer. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was that we were the only younger, non-white customers in the store at the time. I can't say for certain why we were treated this way, and I don't want to make assumptions, but I couldn't help wondering whether our age, race, or even the way we were dressed influenced how we were perceived. We weren't dressed particularly fancy that day, but that shouldn't determine whether someone receives basic courtesy and respect. Ironically, I've received better customer service at Happy Lemon. I was genuinely interested in several pieces and would have been willing to spend a significant amount of money here, but after this experience, I wouldn't purchase anything from this store. BUT, once I got my plants, I found him over there looking at the lovely, handmade leather goods at Bezel & Kiln. We loved the notebooks and journal covers. We even saw a gorgeous passport holder. Ultimately I ended up buying my fiance this awesome, leather notebook cover for his Moleskin and pen. Not only was it reasonably priced, but it was gorgeous AND we're supporting artists! I'm definitely going to stop back next time in at PP!
