Black owned bakery. Happy Black History Month! They have multiple vegan cupcake options. All vegan cupcakes are also gluten free. I wanted to try all the vegan flavors so I got one of each, which totaled half a dozen. They came frozen. I was told that when I'm ready to eat one I just need to sit it out for about an hour to thaw. This has worked out well each time. VEGAN VANILLA CUPCAKE It was ok. The cupcake was moist but dense and it had the typical gluten free consistency and beige color. The icing is pretty great. VEGAN CHOCOLATE CUPCAKE Good, just dense. VEGAN MARBLE CUPCAKE Good, but had those same remnants of that distinctive gluten free taste. VEGAN RED VELVET CUPCAKE Good. Slightly less dense than the chocolate cupcake for some reason. VEGAN SNICKERDOODLE Very good VEGAN SWEET POTATO CUPCAKE This one was perfect. So moist, fluffy, and sweet. You'd never guess this was gluten free. I was in Nashville for the first time on vacation and read great things about The Cupcake Collection in Essence magazine. Without a doubt I made plans to stop by to try their treats while supporting a local black business. The location is a small but cute bakery within what seems like a house. I arrived about 2 hours before closing and upon walking in, I was greeted kindly. Unfortunately they were out of most the flavors I had wanted to try so, I settled for a red velvet and a wedding cake flavored cupcakes. I decided to indulge in my cupcakes on the porch. Firstly, both of the cupcakes were moist and flavorful. I mean, they were GOOOODDD! Probably one of the best I've ever had. Of the two, I loved the wedding cake cupcake which surprised me because it has almond buttercream and I was apprehensive as to what that would taste like. It was superb! The sweetness on both flavors was balanced very well. I had to stop myself from eating both of them in one sitting lol. This was exactly what I needed when I wanted something New Orleans-y in Nashville, as those are the only two locations of this bakery. I found the small domicile in which their Nashville shop rests to be inundated with a mouthwatering aroma. What I like about their style of cupcakes is that they're small. The premium cupcake places often get to a point where it's hard to actually eat an entire cupcake at once because they're so huge and so tricked out. Here, there was enough space for a filling and a topping, but you could conceivably eat a cupcake without having to skip a meal, and the price for a half dozen wasn't crazy. They had a variety of Girl Scout Cookie flavors, as well as some regional things like King Cake and sweet potato. They also do some vegan and GF flavors. This little cupcake shop occupies an old home built in 1900 on what was a quiet residential street back then, now nestled amongst the burgeoning apartment construction flooding the eastern half of Germantown. And yet, the Cupcake Collection retains the charm of yesteryear with its cozy interior, beautiful front porch, and that lovely red door beckoning customers. This local, black-owned business is doing everything right, from the decor and cheerful employees to the deliciously unique flavors and freshly baked cupcakes. It's the only place in Nashville to snag a lemonade cupcake that I know of, with a frosting that really captures the essence of a tangy, lemony beverage on a hot day. The strawberry cupcake is a staple here, and it's so fresh it's like you're actually eating a batch of just-picked strawberries! It's absolutely brilliant the way this creation embodies it's namesake, and it's obviously made with real fruit. The red velvet cupcake is another highlight, rivaling the strawberry flavor for my undivided attention. The subtle cream cheese frosting and classic red velvet cake not as imposing as most is simply a marvelous combination.
