I would give this BBQ joint a 3.5 score. The customer service was pretty good; Very nice, friendly, and welcoming. The reason I'm giving this place a 3.5 is strictly for the food. We ordered 2 plate combo with tri tip and brisket and 2 sides: Mac n cheese and fries. We also ordered the brisket sandwich with fries. We got fountain drinks and to our surprise, they had their own soda flavors! They had a vanilla , cherry, and another flavor that I can't recall. We tried the cherry soda and it wasn't my favorite but my husband enjoyed it. The food came out pretty quickly. The brisket was tender and had some good fat marbling however I found it to be dry and not moist. It also lacked flavor but the bbq sauce helped with flavoring. Unfortunately, the tri tip also lacked flavor and moistness. The Mac n cheese was okay but nothing to write home about. The star of the meal was the garlic bread! That was a nice surprise and it tasted really good. The fries were also nice and crispy and fresh. Overall, I think this is an average bbq place in terms of flavor. I would have liked the meat to taste smokier and seasoned as well as more juicy. This would suffice if you were craving a quick fast service style bbq place. Starting with the Tri Tip Sandwich, this was easily my personal highlight and an absolute must-try. The tri tip was cooked to perfection juicy, well-seasoned, and incredibly tender. Every bite had that perfect balance of smoky flavor and seasoning. The bread was soft and fresh, holding everything together without overpowering the meat. The pickled onions, cucumbers, and jalapeños added the perfect tangy crunch and brightness to cut through the richness. I ordered the salad on the side, and they were generous with the portion, super fresh and crisp. We also ordered the Tri Tip (just the meat), and it truly speaks for itself. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked flawlessly. I honestly kept thinking, how do they make it this good? The Turkey Sandwich completely surprised me, in the best way possible. Turkey can sometimes be dry, but this was the opposite. It was incredibly juicy and executed to a tee. The sauce paired perfectly and elevated the whole sandwich. We have made this a regular stop for takeout and dine in! They have a simple menu with good, barbecued meat and side dishes. Unique takes like shredded pork breakfast tacos, meat-filled baked spuds and large serving portions make it hard to resist. If you're not in the mood for meat, they have a Berry Bleu salad with blackberries, apples, glazed pecans and bleu cheese. It's a large portion and delicious! Enjoy the patio on a sunny day with your pet and watch as people walk by. Their staff is super friendly and to put a stamp on it all, they have a rewards program that leads to $$ rewards pretty fast. They have seasonal specials. In November, they had barbecued turkey that you could have as a combo or as a sandwich. In February 2026, they will have beef ribs. Three of us shared the bread pudding at the last visit and it had delicious details like a rum glaze and the same caramelized pecans as the Berry Bleu salad. Surprisingly really good coming from a Bay Area foodie family. The whole fam said thumbs up. The staff was friendly and ready to help us or answer any questions. Ambience was casual but modern and clean. Let's get to the food! The Santa Maria salad ($23) that comes with half a pound of tri-tip was very green, fresh, savory, and filling. I used the blue cheese dressing and drizzled a bit of bbq sauce on it! In addition we ordered the four meat combo ($42) and tried tri-tip, brisket, burnt ends, and pork ribs. The high list was the moist brisket, tri tip was also good. Ribs were decent but not quite falling off the bone. As for the burnt ends, it's more drenched in sweet bbq sauce than burnt. Also decent but you'll have to eat it with bread otherwise it's too saucy to eat alone. Now the sides we got the potato salad very solid and tasty. The baked beans were tender but not over done. Good bbq flavor with bits of pulled pork. Flavor and seasoning level was just perfect so that you can eat endless amounts and not be sick of it. Our fam of 4 was pretty good at this point but since brisket was a fan favorite from our boys we ordered another half pound of brisket ($23). Good, but I'd say the combos are better value. First time here and just went this month. We had a large group with people ordering a family meal, and others getting combos. Everyone in the group really enjoyed it. We had Crossroads BBQ cater my wife's birthday party this past weekend, and the food was an absolute hit. We ordered pulled pork, chicken, and brisket, along with their fancy salad, mac and cheese, and BBQ bean. Every single dish was phenomenal. The meats were incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked (the brisket in particular disappeared fast), and the sides were just as impressive. The mac and cheese and BBQ beans had people going back for seconds and thirds. Multiple guests came up to us during the party asking where the food was from because they loved it so much. We stopped for lunch around 11:15 after a leisurely drive along the coast, and there was a line out the door of retirees. Bring your patience, orders are taken at the register, and all questions and requests are answered slowly, one-by-one, and no one ahead of us was in a rush to make a hasty decision. The customers in line ahead of us were extremely particular about their requests, and did not hesitate to argue with the cashier. By the time we reached the front of the line, service was not offered with enthusiasm or a smile. My guess is that the cashier's patience had worn thin after several arguments, thousands of questions, and barely reasonable requests by previous customers. Mine would be! The Crossroads BBQ describes their BBQ Spud "1.25lb baked potato topped with your choice of meat, sour cream, cheese and green onions". This dish is a very large baked potato with a very small portion of each topping, and you will not leave hungry. So I had low expectations because who thinks of Carmel for good BBQ? Well it was delicious, not totally traditional it the flavors were great. Here's what we had: Burnt ends-These were great, great bark and BBQ sauce seemed different from their regular stuff but it was good. Pulled pork- I'm not a big pulled pork guy but my wife is and she couldn't stop eating it. Ribs- Really good, they were sauced but not overdone. Tender but still had some "pull". Gaucho brisket sandwich-This was good as well, needed a bit more chimi but executed well. Potato Salad- Thus was good, potatoes cooked well, good flavor without any overpowering mustard or vinegar. Mac n cheese- This was decent, nothing to write home about though. A little salt and pepper and it did the trick. Baked Beans- The only dud for us. Bland as heck. Corn Bread- I could have ate a plate full. It's like toast and really dense, never had cornbread like this. Overall a winner, this is good for anywhere, let alone a small place like Carmel. Don't get me wrong. But they finished off the Crossroads barbecue ribs first and said that's the one they would want next time the folks are very helpful. The app was easy easy to order from. I'm sure the people are very nice and pleasant. My issues aren't about that. I don't have any issues with the appearance of the restaurant either. Unfortunately for this establishment I'm from the south and not California. There is a correct way to BBQ and there is an incorrect way. This is the latter. The brisket was chewy. This brisket should've been smoked for at least 10 hours and the texture gave me the impression it was maybe done for 3-4. The Tri tip was incredibly salty. The pulled pork was too salty. I'm pretty sure salt was the only seasoning I tasted on anything. The corn bread was essentially a piece of toasted bread that seemed like someone was using to make a grilled cheese but forgot to put the cheese on it. Potato salad was mostly devoid of any real flavor other than pickles and whatever condiment was used to mix the potatoes in. The Mac and cheese was overcooked noodles and not much in the way of flavorful cheese. I wanted to give this a chance because I was told the reviews were good, but I won't be trusting west coast reviews on BBQ again. read more

Place is large enough and clean. Smoker cooking outside smelled great. My wife had a pulled pork sandwich with potato salad. I had burnt ends with bbq bean, potato salad and cornbread. They add this nice pickled onion and cucumber chips that are home made, very tasty. We both liked our food, A LOT! Pork was moist, potato salad had great flavor with some nice crunch to it. The BBQ here is pretty outstanding. It's difficult to find smoked turkey at bbq places in the Bay Area. The crossroads does it right. I'm really particular with brisket as nobody makes it quite like dad but I'm seriously thinking that The Crossroads might be worth the 2.5 hour one way drive to go for seconds. We also tried the Rib Sandwich- how could you not - Chef's kiss. Service was great- friendly and you can tell they take a lot of pride in their product and have a passion for what they do. In the bay area BBQ spots are quite limited so we didn't have high expectations and boy were we blown away! The meat was absolutely tender and would fall apart just by looking at it. We enjoyed Crossroads BBQ enough to visit twice during Monterey Car Week. The posted menu's BBQ Meals (comes with two sides & choice of bread) only went up to four meats; upon hearing us debate on which meats to order, the friendly male cashier suggested a five-meat combo because why not?! You Only Live Once (or whatever the kids are saying these days.) Crunchy, candied burnt ends & tender tri tip were the clear winners, but the brisket, pork ribs, & hot link all held their own. Unfortunately, as with so many BBQ joints, the sides weren't executed as well as the meats; dull potato salad, mediocre beans, dry corn bread. The two BBQ sauces we tried were also just so-so, but the meats didn't necessarily need them, so a moot point. The next visit, we came in for the beef rib special. The female cashier, just as easy to talk to as the cool dude who rang us up previously, shocked us in the best way possible with the price: we already knew to skip the sides so we had three large, meaty beef ribs for a very reasonable $20 before tax. Lightly sauced (bf might've liked more drizzled on), not too sweet, & seasoned simply with S+P. Plenty of seating, five-star service, & flavorful meats.
