Woodbury Brewing Company is a craft brewpub that opened in Woodbury, Connecticut in December 2017…read more It was founded by friends and business partners Allan Cetrone, Tim Budrewicz, T.J. D'Alexander and Ken Mair. After he found his previous employer's ethical standards unconscionable, Cetrone decided to quit and find a new line of work. He and his friends frequently got together at a backyard barn man-cave which was complete with a fridge and kegerator. Cetrone had also been experimenting with his own homebrewed beers. Once their man cave became a popular spot for family gatherings, the four friends decided to open their own brewery. The taproom has a rustic saloon aesthetic (a nod to the friends' backyard barn man-cave) complete with a stage for live musical acts to perform. In addition to the housemade beer, WBC also serves wine, cider, craft cocktails, and a large menu of delicious food from their in-house kitchen. I recently visited Woodbury Brewing Company for the first time. I had heard that they host a lot of live music acts and I purchased a ticket to see Hudson Valley-based Rush tribute band "Limelight". I'm a HUGE Rush fan, so I was really excited to see the group perform. I arrived over an hour before the show started. I had a reserved table right by the stage. There was a modest crowd when I first arrived, but the whole taproom was packed by the time the show started. After looking over the menu, I decided to order the "Nashville Hot GIANT Chicken Sandwich" (hot honey, cajun spice, pickles, mayo) with "Sweet Potato Fries" as well as an order of "Cheese Curds" (served w/ house-made marinara). I was totally shocked when the food finally came to the table. When they say "giant chicken sandwiches", they mean GIANT! I could barely fit the sandwich into my mouth, but it was so delicious! The sweet potato fries were equally big and delicious, and the cheese curds were really good too! Throughout my visit, I enjoyed pours of "Yummy Beers" (Double New England IPA), "Collusion" (New England IPA), and "Barrel-Aged Don't Go Romanov" (Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout). They were all surprisingly good! Limelight also gave an excellent performance to the very energetic crowd. Overall, I had quite an enjoyable evening and I'll definitely be back! I already have a ticket to another show!

Tucked away in the Heritage Hotel, The Tavern was a great place to grab a bite and a beer…read more There were plenty of tables, with a decent sized bar, a pool table and plenty of TVs. The food was very good, priced right, and proper portions. We shared the mild buffalo wings, extra crispy. The sauce was good and wings cooked well. The bleu cheese dip did not seem to be homemade but it did the job. My wife had a French onion soup which was very good, and the tots-chos. The tots were crispy and smothered in what we believe was a homemade cheese sauce, olives, jalapeños, pickled red onions, and fire roasted corn. It came with salsa, which in our opinion wasn't really needed. Sour cream may have been better but they were fine as is. I had the Tex-mex wrap with fire roasted corn which came with sidewinder fries. Everything was well seasoned and we brought home plenty of leftovers. The beer list was smaller but had a good selection of local crafts and some more well known brands. Our server, Jules, was very nice, attentive, and made good recommendations. Overall, would definitely come back for a low key dinner or to watch the game.

The food was okay, but I was very disappointed in the service. Appetizers took forever to come out,…read moreand our server never apologized for the wait nor checked on us to see how our meal was. Oysters were very good, but the calamari came out cold and was very bland and overpriced. The aesthetics are solid for the establishment, and the entree was decent. Not a bad restaurant, but the service is a major downside and needs significant improvement.

Today was my first time at The Reserve, and I unfortunately have to agree with some of the Google…read morereviews. The food took quite a long time to come out. We started with a couple of drinks, which were very strong..maybe a little too strong. My sangria didn't taste like sangria at all, and I honestly couldn't tell what was in it. It didn't have any fruit, and I think vodka was added. We ordered the calamari and what was listed as hummus with pita. When it arrived, we noticed the "hummus" was actually spinach and artichoke dip. I had to ask about it since I have an allergy and wanted to make sure a certain ingredient wasn't included. We decided to keep it and I'm glad we did because it was absolutely delicious!! The calamari was just as good, if not better. Both appetizers were fantastic. For our entrée, we ordered the rigatoni to share. There was a bit of confusion, as our waitress (who was also the bartender) thought we wanted it packed to go, when we actually planned to eat it and then take the rest home. She quickly fixed it in the kitchen, so really no harm done. My only guess is that since we had been sitting with appetizers for quite a while, she may have assumed we were finished eating.. I mean it was a while. The pasta itself was cooked perfectly and the sauce was very good. However, it was topped with microgreens and cilantro which really threw me off! I've never had a pasta dish garnished with cilantro, especially instead of something more traditional like basil...? It felt like a strange choice and was a bit unappetizing for me. Overall, it was a very... odd... first experience. Would I give it another shot? Yes, but I think I'd wait a bit and hope things become more organized. I have to add it is beautiful inside. They have the cutest lights on the table. Appetizers: 10/10 Drinks: 3/10 Entrée: 5/10

You could see some nice smoke rings on the intact pieces of meat. Cons: - Service. The staff member we encountered when we entered and asked about our reservation (a manager of the restaurant or perhaps just of the cocktail program, we learned) was incredibly rude and unfriendly. We had barely begun to eat our food when she came by our table and asked us if we would like to-go bags. We were a bit shocked and asked her if she needed the table for some reason. (The restaurant was less than half full.) She said no, but the messaging to us that she did not want us at the restaurant was quite clear. With a lot of effort I did draw out some of the superficial signs of friendliness from the bartender working under the manager, who had initially echoed the manager's coldness. But it ought not be on the customer to extract a non-miserable customer experience, especially on a celebratory occasion. The person who brought out our food was competent, pleasant, and helpful. Middling: - The Lumberjack cocktail was well designed and well made. If only those behind this cocktail program were not so angry at having to interact with customers! - Mashed potatoes had the texture of being scratch made, but also had a hint of margarine. Margarine is a no go in our book. - Corn bread was very sweet and moist, Northern style. It may just be a matter of personal preference, but I am partial to Southern style corn bread, a bit more crumbly, not sweet and not cake-like, where the flavor of corn is more prominent. TLDR: Pleasant space, some excellent food and cocktails. (The non bbq items we tried were so-so, but where the smoker was involved, it didn't seem like you could go wrong.) Hospitality was a fail. We have a few good options for bbq in the area. We are in no hurry to return to Cowboy Butter.
