Went here today with my boyfriend since he always passes this place on his walk to work and saw they sell plants. We ended up getting distracted by everything else they had in store and forgot to even get any plants! They had an amazing selection of teas that i've yet to find anywhere else. I even found some seasonings that i can't find at any grocery stores, not to mention they sell Byson, Elk, and venison meats along with micro greens! Our first time here and The 2 stars are strictly for the coolness of the place. We walked in and two people (a man with a name tag possibly the owner and a lady) were behind the counter chatting with another lady. Absolutely zero greeting, no pause in their conversation, it was like we weren't in there at all. My son and I proceeded to look around the store, trying to locate their "loose leaf tea". Not once were we asked if we needed assistance or acknowledged in any way. We found the tea ourselves. The selection was 4 or 5 kinds, expensive and looked to be of poor quality. Every time I have been in the San Marcos location they have asked me if I needed help. The lady has taken me to specific items such as gluten-free bread and cereals. The Cornucopia is the perfect local grocery store to go to if you're the kind of person that's a fan of all-natural products, veganism, and organic foods. The Cornucopia is right across the street from the big HEB, and at the same shopping center as Imperial Garden Chinese Restaurant. The workers here are friendly, and they are more than happy to help. I usually get their organic Pacific tomato soups whenever I pay them a visit. They also sell a ton of natural cosmetics, which is a rarity at a place like San Marcos. Plus said natural cosmetics are cheaper than the prices Whole Foods offers over at Austin. I'd recommend this place is you're a hippy dippy person from Austin that loves to be health-minded and never misses a daily multivitamin. read more

PROS: Cute little place. It reminds me of the health food stores from the 70's. It even smells similar, like a blend of exotic bulk teas, bulk spices, and patchouli oil. CONS: they don't actually have those things in bulk and the smell seems to be coming from candles or incense. Unfortunately anything you buy to eat there tastes like this smell. My first visit there, I bought veggies and fruit that looked wonderful. I got it all home and every single thing tasted like that. It was an expensive and unpleasant surprise that I ended up throwing away. For a small store, I would like the service to be better. It seems the employees talk for quite a while to their regular customers and a new customer has to wander around and wait until the chatting is over to ask "where is the...". In fact, I was asking about a vitamin supplement and the older gentleman who was helping me broke off to chat with a regular customer while I stood there. I ended up just walking out. I'm sure it's a nice place for lots of people, but there are too many negatives for me. Instead, I drive to Austin to Whole Foods. It's not convenient to drive there from San Marcos but worth it for the predictable, consistent results. read more

This was cute little market with all the unique organic things I was looking for to eat pure organic foods. A suggestion I would really appreciate (not the reason I'm knocking a star) would be to increase the sweetener selection without artificial sugar alcohols. I wanted to buy pure organic monk fruit and/or chicory root, but the only sugar like packages they had of monk fruit had erythritol in it. The reason I'm knocking the store a star is the permeating smell on the items. There's some Indian spice in the store that is really strong, which is fine if you can leave the store and not smell it, but some of my items now have that smell on them and now my whole pantry smells like that spice. I don't like the smell personally and find it was too strong. read more

I love this place. I had been going here for many years. Its my go to for my supplements and organic produce. They have affordable organic fruits and veggies. The store hours 9am to 8 pm except Sunday opens at 12 pm. The owner is very nice. You accumulate points thru their rewards program and get a discount. I love Cornucopia! I don't know what I would do without this little store. It's the only place in a thirty mile radius that stocks the healthy, green, and alternative products I want. Tempeh? Got it. Vegan sour cream? Check. Tahini? Of course. All sorts of little snacks and treats for a vegan in the middle of a completely oblivious college town? Lifesaver! For most general items I do go to the big HEB, but I love that this place is available to me. They are also chock full of vitamin, supplements, and green living supplies. For a tiny little shop they are filled to the brim! They even have a nice book section filled with relevant publications. ::4.5 Stars:: Just a small town health food store, A few minutes from downtown. I needed some Quietude, my natural solution to a good night's sleep as well as some heathy snacks, fruits and groceries. Cornucopia hit the spot, at least to provide me with something better than a Winn Dixie or H-E-B. What an upgrade and thank goodness for that! I certainly did not want to drive ALL the way south to San Antonio, nor all the way north to Austin just for a week's supply of organics and homeopathic sleep aid! If I could change one thing, their store size would be bigger... With a bigger organic vegetable section, but maybe what they have is sufficient enough for the little town of San Marcos and surrounding areas!? The Service was wonderful! I got help, dinner suggestions and a super friendly and welcoming staff that had answers to any questions I asked. This place is awesome! I went in looking for an all natural cure for a severe sinus infection that I was afraid I was going to need to go to the doctor and get antibiotics for. The guy there educated me on different things I could use, silver biotics and a garlic extract that uses a special forumula of the allicin in it. I used both and in less than 24 hours my sinuses were clear! I could BREATHE, SMELL, and TASTE again! Previous to this, my sinuses were COMPLETELY congested and I was MISERABLE. The people that work there really know their stuff! They are super friendly, very knowledgeable about their products, and always willing to help their customers! I don't do this 5 star thing a lot, but this was a perfect storm. I was looking for Agave nectar, and had forgot to look when I was across the street at HEB. I pulled in expecting to pay out the... well... Health shop in a small town... come on. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were not only nice, but after searching for a few minutes I was asked if I needed help. I gave my request and I was not given directions but lead up to the various products that fit my search. As I stood gazing at the various options I was informed about each product and the benefits and also the personal rating of the employee. Plus! The store was also super clean and organized, and though time did not allow for a full exploration of this new discovery I was very impressed. The next shocker is that they are the only place in San Marcos that I know of that still stocks Bert's Bees Lifeguard's Choice Lip Balm (Think the fun of BBs but waterproof... Great Success!). I informed the cashier of my satisfaction in finding one of my most rare favorites in the shop and was informed that they liked the feed back because they are considering what items to keep and replace. This little health food store delivers. with employees who know their stuff. They are helpful without being pushy or pretentious. They also have a rewards plan that actually pays off... Often. They have special ordered stuff I needed without hesitation and when they could not accommodate my needs they gave me hints in where to obtain the things I wanted. Many places opt for trying to sell you something you don't want just to make a sale, or worse, they try to flaunt their knowledge and try to talk you into an item that they carry. Not these guys. I went here for the first time today. I just moved to San Marcos, from out of state. I was so impressed with the freshness of the fruit and their variety of foods that they offer. The employees were so friendly, and even helped me out to my car with my bags. I had my 2 year old with me and they gave me some free chocolates on the way out, to give to her at a later time. I LUV THIS PLACE! It completely blows my mind that this little store hasn't radiated it's positive energy outward into the community. They have ANYTHING you possibly want when it comes to vegetarian or vegan health. I spent nearly an hour just looking at all there items. For example they have Raw Protien Poweders, Essential Oils, everything Vegan you could want, Kale Chips, raw Granola, Vegan Cookies and much much more than can possibly fit into this description. I remember looking at a similar selection of foods and products at the downtown Whole Foods in Austin, and the Cornucopia has about the same, if not more of these products. They carry a great variety of natural, healthy foods with tons of vegan options (they now carry Daiya cheese) as well as cleaning products, toiletries, books, snacks, vitamins and supplements and other stuff. While some things may seem a bit pricy, you definitely get what you pay for. They even have a pretty impressive bulk food selection with things like granola, flour, nutritional yeast, grains, etc. It is basically like the bulk/natural aisle at the Big HEB across the street, except that it is a small locally owned business, its employees are knowledgeable and friendly, and they take suggestions from their customers on what they stock and always have fresh product on their shelves. read more

I absolutely love this place!!! Somehow they always have everything I'm looking for, especially when I just know they're not going to carry it... I researches stores for cheese cloth and target was mentioned... I went to target, and no offense intended, but the associate didn't know what i was talking about... I was in cornucpia and just decided to ask just to see, and sure enough I was lead right to it!!! That was my last time doubting this place... I love it!!! I agree with a previous post, that I'm always graciously thanked for my purchases as well, and the twin brothers that own the place are the nicest men ever... The staff is amazing as well... I'm so thankful that they're not only friendly, but extremely knowledgeable as well... Another visit prior, I was looking for some vanilla bean...
