Cheers for me, guys. And now that I've been, I just want to come back. That food is good. So, so very good.... Vegan options galore, and not just some bullshit afterthoughts. The sweet potato soup with garlic was a great starter, especially with that perfectly thick bread. The "Tineka," a spicy peanut butter sandwich with all kinds of fresh veg, was another hit. Fresh, salty, beautifully toasted. Even the side of slaw was elevated beyond the norm. But the one I'll be dreaming of is the Chickpea & Fennel Tagine. Green harissa, golden raisins, preserved lemon, arugula, and more of that amazing grilled bread. My god. Tagine is a slow-cooked African dish that jams pounds of flavor into each bite, and this bowl was through the roof. The apertif menu? Bonus points for that one. I accidentally bit the whole thing and didn't realize they kept the core in, and I had to spit it out. And even after eating it properly it didn't feel like I got enough of it from those little bites. Loved the fries though! I was pleasantly surprised. I think if I ordered as is I would have been disappointed - but being able to DIY was clutch. All that said, I FIRMLY reject the designation of places like Sweetgreen, Chipotle, and Cava as "slop bowls." In a time of rising economic and food insecurity, I actually find it incredibly disrespectful. Related but undeveloped thought - I also have issues with how items that contain "soft" ingredients like rice and beans - staples in countries with large populations of non white folks - get ridiculed as "slop." Is it the price that offends us? The preparation? Or the thought that who is eating it - (white) white collar workers - "deserve better?" It was not crowded but people were coming in and out with take out and were eating inside. I got the Italian sandwich with banana peppers. It was very good, spicy salami, salty ham, fresh vegetables. The bread was very good too! My partner got the omertà, he said it was good, very fresh but having more than 1 half of it was too much. So it appears it was filling. This place is a total vibe, we didn't eat inside but it was cute.
