I recently moved from Texas to California, bringing the Elfa wall organization system from my very large sewing studio to use in my new, tiny sewing studio. I needed one new hang standard to make my Elfa system accommodate multiple tasks. I first tried going to the Container Store in Palo Alto. The head Elfa woman at that store (Megan?) was extremely rude. I left frustrated and confused with what should have been a simple purchase. The next time I had business in the Bay Area, yesterday, I tried the San Jose location on Stevens Creek. OMG, night and day difference in experience! Becky retrieved the piece I thought I needed. When I commented that it looked different, she showed me the track and asked if it was the same as my track. Even though Becky has only worked for the Container Store for a few years, she is knowledgeable about the older, discontinued Elfa systems! We talked pleasantly about my options. I went home with the newer hang standard, which at least have slots that align to my older standards. Becky went out of her way to make sure I have her contact information. She even offered to put together a new system for me to just pick up, if I emailed her a picture of my current system with measurements. The entire interaction was friendly and helpful. I will definitely return to the San Jose Container Store and tell my friends! I am disabled and have an accent, but neither of those qualities make me stupid. I don't know why the woman in Palo Alto talked to me that way. read more

She came home, looked at our space and gave us great ideas and ended up sending the design, proposal and quotation on the same night! I am extremely disappointed with the customer support I received from The Container Store. Over nine months ago, I entered into an agreement for a service that was never completed. Despite my patience and repeated follow-ups, the store has failed to finish the work or provide a clear explanation. The lack of communication and accountability(from Ms.Lolita Gracia) has been frustrating and has made me lose trust in the brand. I chose The Container Store for its reputation for quality and service, but my experience has been the opposite. Debbie Arce is the designer of the Elfa closet systems at the San Jose Container Store. She was very professional and did a fantastic job of designing a system that maximized the space in our closet. Debbie was very helpful with our virtual consultation and stayed in contact prior and after the installation to make sure everything was seemless. As for the installation, Andy and his partner were actual Container Store employees. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were not contractors. Andy and his partner were done in less than an hour and cleaned up very neatly. I couldn't believe how nicely they put the boxes away. The Elfa system is very functional and reasonable. I had an appointment scheduled with California Closets and cancelled it, because my girlfriend and I were so impressed with Debbie's presentation and the functionality of Elfa. Please advise Bridget that closing time is 7pm on Fridays NOT one minuet before, five or ten minuets before. This isn't the first time she pulls this. There are reasons the store has posted hours! We were in need of an upgrade for closets and decided to go with the Elfa Decor design at the Container Store. We saw that they did free designs, decided to try it out, and honestly after my first appointment with Debbie - I was so happy that she was not only so helpful, but also soooo soooo patient. I recall the first time we had our appointment, I didn't come to a conclusion on what I wanted and needed a second appointment - she was more than happy to accommodate and go over more options and designs with me. The next few times around when I needed a closet for my brother and parent's closet, I knew what I wanted and the design processes were relatively quick. We had a few sessions back and forth over email with some visual screenshots and she was able to quickly put the order together for me! Each time was more and more swift and painless - and she's just honestly been such a joy to work with! Shout out to you Debbie! Thank you so much! c: We love our closets!!! Outside of Debbie - the staff in general is always very helpful and kind. There were a few instances where I had to do a couple of exchanges based on some re-configurations post-design & post-closet setup, but the staff was more than accommodating of my changes and was super helpful when needing them to help me find the right items! One thing on the product though - if you're planning on doing DIY for your Elfa closet, I would recommend using your own drywall anchors. While the Elfa drywall anchors are said to be sturdy, I personally didn't find that to be the case myself as the anchors didn't consistently open up and I had to reinstall one side of my closet where it was completely held up by drywall anchors. I've been coming to the container store for many years now, but lately, I have been coming here quite a bit (almost every week) over the past few months since I just moved. I'm usually in and out and doing my own thing so I don't really interact with the employees for help other than at the check out line. Usually our interaction are fine, but last Saturday, I encountered an employee that just kind of irked me. BACKSTORY: So for one of the projects I am working on, I had ordered about 25 of the small canister from the home edit. I had bought 10 in store since that was all they had and the rest I ordered online. It was during a sale that they had so I didn't want to wait to get it in store. But when my ordered arrived, I realized that it had a different color to it. So the one I got was clear plastic, but the ones that were sent to me was a recycled plastic so it had a grey tint to it. I went to the Palo Alto location to exchange them because I had thought I purchased the wrong one, but apparently, I didn't. The store had a bunch of the grey tinted one called "Petite Bocal - recycled material" whereas the one I wanted did not say that. However, they were the exact item with the exact SKU number just different materials used. An employee there had told me that it just depends on the shipment so I would just have to go in store each time to get the one I wanted to prevent being sent the wrong one again. We were able to find one of the clear ones and the employee switched it on the spot. We didn't even have to do a return/purchase transaction. That was pretty cool. So these past few months, that's what I have been doing. I would go to different container stores to exchange the petite bocal for the clear ones. It was not easy. Each time, there would be maybe 1 or 2 clear ones. And every time, I had to explain to the employee and when they realized what I was trying to explain, they were super happy to assist saying they had no idea they were different color. They just took my item and gave me the right item without any sort of transaction because it was literally the same item (even exchange). I have done this probably 12 times. THE PART THAT IRKED ME: Last weekend, I went back to this location (San Jose) and found one clear one! I really just need two more people, but that's for next week! So I explained to the employee that was ringing me up, but he seemed to rush me and didn't really care what I was trying to say and cut me off to say, "No! You have to return and then purchase it again." And I was like even if it was an even exchange? He said, "Yeah, no. That's not what you would call an even exchange, they're different items so we would have to do this when the company is trying to push in new products or else everything will be off" and went on and on, but I was trying to tell him that I've done this over 10 times and every employee at every location said the same thing, even here! It's like if I put one banana down to pick up another banana... It wouldn't mess up your inventory, but whatever. He had no interest in my explanation or probably too dense to understand anything. But no he had me go through the whole return and repurchase, which I get it, It wasn't a big deal or anything. It just the way he talked to me that really irked me. I guess I was thinking that I had to pay the full price when I got it on sale, but luckily it was still on sale. So yup, we did the entire process, same price, same sku number. Overall, it was just kind of an unpleasant experience. I think next time, I would just go to a different location or just come back a different time if I saw him working again. Right when I walk in the greeting I received was followed by a judgmental stare (looking me up and down) fine, I'll ignore it and see what you have. Purchased two mason jars from the same person who greeted me and received the same judgmental, snobby attitude. Your whole job involves being respectful and polite, even when you don't want to be. You're in the wrong line of work if you can't manage a "Have a nice day" or "thank you" back. Basic customer service skills are lacking. I love the container store! The Elfa collection helped me organize my closet in my childhood home so I knew they would be the experts on helping me get organized. Getting our walk-in closet and update was something we had considered and wanted to get quoted from The Container Store. It was very easy to make an appointment online (next day options available!) and we were paired with Luwam C. who was a specialist for the Avera collection. The Avera collection is the middle tier option featuring wood finish, a wooden back drop, lighting, and all the specs you could want. As someone who considered the Preston collection, this was the next best option that was more budget friendly, but still stunning! Also, the Preston collection can only be done with a house tour. Those appointments weren't available immediately, so the wait time for that wasn't ideal and we wanted an in person experience with physical models anyhow. Luwam was really attentive to all of our needs and helped us achieve everything we had considered for a closet. We were able to walk through the demos and explain what we had wanted, needed, and absolutely couldn't live without. It was a challenge making sure all of our criteria was met, but she did such an amazing job and designed up a beautiful layout! Unfortunately, the Avera was out of our budget considering the size of our 8ft by 12ft closet. Luwam was so kind and offered to do the Elfa option (cheapest tier) and helped us get nearly everything identical to what she had done with the Avera. The quality between the two tiers is noticeable, but not an absolute dealbreaker. I appreciated her speedy work ethic and how efficient she was in helping us even though Elfa wasn't her specialty. We ended up leaving with two quotes, instructions on how to proceed when we are ready, and mock-designs itemizing the prices. What felt like it could be overwhelming was made convenient with the help of the staff at the Container Store. I was really grateful for the help we received along with the shopping options available. It was so nice to be able to see the in store options and what we could do to organize and make our space look neater too. I heard the Elfa collection may have a sale towards the end of the year and we might consider jumping on that once the holiday season wraps up. If you're considering a custom closet, make an appointment for a free consultation and get the closet or organized space of your dreams! I think we may consider returning for a laundry room organizer in the future for the garage. read more

There are containers and drawers of all sizes and shapes for inside the cabinets outside the shelves, closet organization and design. Gadgets for the kitchen, gadgets for the bedroom, gadgets for the bathroom, there is storage galore. After walking through the store you are ready to go home and see what you need to organize so you can go back to the store and buy what you need. Take measurements and take inventory of what is at home and then go back to the store. Prices are not the cheapest but they're not too horrible either. Since then I have worked with the designers at this store and we created amazing solutions for my closets, shoe area and pantry! I also love their InterMetro shelving solution. This store is an absolute MESS! In-store agents are super rude and not helpful. They operate by their own rules and schedule and does not value customer experience. One of their agents by named Bridget did not let us inside the store before 30 mins of their closing time. It was such an inconvenience especially after driving for 30 mins only to get there. I requested her saying that we already know what to pick, but she still did not let us in. We had a horrible experience previously in the same store with someone in the closet organizing department. So, the store has a lot of nice products and represent some manufacturers with a wider array of products. There, that's done. I have nothing else positive to say. Well, the store seems fairly clean. I guess that's a thing. However, the employees know little about about the storage products or how to use them. They did not understand the products displayed on the store shelves nor about the manufacturer's wider online offerings. I previously bought a 5-piece Metro storage rack system for my basement. Now, I need a large pantry storage area design (repurposing and reconfiguring some of the older pieces, if possible). The word heard (over and over) is "I don't know, let me call someone". But the answers received from those calls vary between inexpert, inapplicable, and 'no, I don't think so". Even the so-called "designers" are not familiar with the products ~In stock on the shelves~, much less with the manufacturers' full line offerings. The two "designers" I spoke with basically shrugged when I asked for help with the pantry storage system. They pointed to the racks of in-stock wire rack accessories indicating, figure it out yourself. But, those racks are not organized by either size or color. Everything is just jammed in where it fitted at the time. And, it was pretty clear to me that no one there would provide the expertise needed to have an actual custom or even semi-custom installation. The on the way out, manager asked me how it went. Parking garage shows you how many spaces are left, AND it has lights above each parking spot so you can easily spot the blue lights for handicapped, green for open space, and red for spot taken. OUTSIDE: nicely landscaped with plants and concrete is clean light colored, which was great for walking our dog around and he fertilized the flowers haha. INSIDE: they allow dogs!!! So awesome! The floor is carpeted so I was surprised they allow dogs, but I'm not gonna complain about that! In mid-November Christmas stuff is already everywhere. This store is so clean and organized (of course it better be considering it's a container store!). Two stories you can take stairs or an elevator to go upstairs. CHECKOUT: lots of registers. First of all I'm a big fan of the staff here. Everyone knows what they're doing. Big solid kudos to them! What a major difference to a bunch of other stores. Here you won't meet a staff who will give you a blank stare when you ask for help. No one here will pretend that they are busy to help you. They will work with you until you're really happy with what you got. We went in for a look-see but Adam ended up with a plan to revamp my closet. They can actually draw a draft of what you closet will look like with their product. For free! The promised time to pick up the materials the following day was kept. Follow up visit for additional products still a very pleasant experience. Keep up the good work! I like the fact that they're all knowledgeable in what they sell in the store. Not like some places where ONLY one person is an expert and you have to wait. They hold up and are ergonomically correct and gentle on hips and backs. They also have rolling ones, wide ones, tall narrow ones, cloth and plastic. They also have good water bottles. Organize: LEGO, arts, tool, crafts, nut&bolts with good selection of organizers shelves and trays . Have clothes that won't stay on the dang-nabbit hanger?! They have the best hangers for that. We were treated as if we had the plague. She barked at us to stand back several feet from the register while she operated it, then when payment was required she fled several feet away until we were done running our credit card. Her tone and demeanor were profoundly unprofessional. If she's uncomfortable being at her job during these times and can't treat customers with dignity and respect she should not be there. I was standing and waiting outside, as person #3 in line to enter the store and while I watched 5 people exit the store... Yes, I counted every single customer that left... and they still didn't let us in! Best Buy next door had a friendly person outside setting expectations and there was zero queue. No one was standing at the entrance at Container Store and one female staff member only came by to let us know that there would be a longer wait time and she acted like she forgot about ALL of us who were waiting in line. What the hell... just keep us waiting outside in the sun like we are lining up for a new iPhone purchase even though this store is massive and Best Buy has zero wait. I was standing outside waiting for over 20 minutes!!! I have never waited in line for this long to get into any store during Covid. Meanwhile, over at Costco and Walmart -- Tons of people everywhere. When we finally got let in, the store was practically empty with more staff to customer ratio. I don't know what their rules are but they sucks and I wouldn't come here again. how do people leave her without buying insane amounts of stuff??? maybe they don't. it's so hard to not want EVERYTHING!!! i could spend hours here. so much to see. so many cool things. pretty much if you need it to organize your home, they have it. and if you didn't know you needed things to organize... you will after a visit here! a few of my favorite things... containers of the kitchen variety. they have so many canisters, jars, etc. it's fun. you can go square, round, whatever you like. and don't limit yourself to the section an item is in. these things can be used for many purposes. my daughter is a scrunchie hoarder. we've found some great jars in the kitchen area to store them in that look cute in her room. another fav... the storage cube that doubles as a seat. it may not look like much, but wow is it ever sturdy. looks nice in a room, tucks under a desk easily, stores some things... and you can pull it out for a quick seat. love it. gift wrap. i looooove gift wrap. great selection here, and if you catch a sale, great prices. go in, have some fun... only your wallet will regret it! read more

My trip to the Container Store was riddled with mistakes, but none by the store or its staff. Mistake one: Parking way to far away. If you just want the container store and not all of Santana Row, be sure to use the Winchester Garage instead of the one by the road. That way you'll be right by the building. Anyway, about the store. Firstly, two stories is fantastic. Easy to understand directory by the elevator with lots of choices for what I want and even tables of useful and cute stocking stuffers. I was looking for some organization stuff for tabletop game pieces (books, figures, dice, etc.) for a Christmas present and was honestly expecting to end up paying over $100 for a wheeled rack, cases for specific items, containers and pen holders. It was just a lot of little pieces to check off my list. $60 later I had more than what I came in for. Awesome! Now here comes my second mistake, I didn't move my car and now I'm carting around this big box wondering what I should do. It's not super heavy, it's just big. Without a thought the cashier put this plastic strap that stuck to the box and informed me it was to make carrying easier. Wow, I had been panicking for nothing because this company knew exactly what was needed. Just fantastic, had several staff members asking if I needed help, the store was clean, attentive. This place is two floors and everything is pretty easy to find. Staff is friendly, and the location is in a prime spot. I've passed this place so many times, so it was great to finally actually need something to buy from here. They had plenty shelving levels and it was perfect for my Funko toys after SDCC. There is something to be said about a Brick and Mortar store. And while I was tempted to click on Amazon to get my little plastic bin storage that I needed, I wanted to see it in person.. Hold it. Touch it. Feel the dimensions. And this is where the Container Store comes in. I'm going to be honest. Valley Fair is my most favorite mall ever. But I've never stepped foot inside this store. Once I walked in, my disorganized self wondered why. Drawers, bins, and just about every storage solution you can think of is here. When I walked up the stairs (because my booty needs the exercise) I found exactly what I was looking for. A small wide plastic bin that had a drawer where I could store my socks. And it came in green, blue, purple, bright pink and clear. I went home with the bright pink one. So me. Oh and they had a nice clean bathroom on the 2nd floor. My friend and I went here to look for stuff he may or may not need for his house. Spent a good 30-40 minutes here just browsing around.. I just want to point out that I love their HUGE spaced elevators.. it's probably for shoppers who will be putting a lot of crap on their shopping carts or something.. but regardless.. I was about to buy it but I don't have a cat so I didn't... maybe I should've and gave it as a gift to a fellow cat lover friend haha oh wells. Making the switch from racks to boxes, I needed some containers to help me along. Wandering around I'd forgotten how much they charge for some of their stuff. I mean Bed Bath Beyond is no dollar store, but I usually end up buying from their clearance section, which is usually 70% off. The drawers, which I love, were about 20% off and not so much a steal at twenty bucks a pop. Service was okay, though I felt (quite on par with other Container Stores) they didn't have enough cashiers. I also always feel watched and slightly pushed at places like these where I'm asked if I need help about 5 times in the space of my 15 minute shopping trip. We were told we could leave our carts anywhere, which worked out well since the tiny elevator for the parking couldn't fit us and the people ahead of us so we had to wait. Which was especially annoying as we were running late. I dunno that I'd be back to this location. I think BBB, while not having the same stuff per say, is a better value overall. read more
