Things look so much fancier on counters when they're poured into those shnazzy Italian glass canning jars. Nowadays, my plain old pinto beans and oatmeal looks positively luxurious as they're hanging out side by side in the kitchen. The only thing I don't like about some of the stuff they carry at The Container Store is that a few items straight up stink. I don't mean that it's poor quality, but that it's cheap plastic. (I guess that kinda means the same thing). Considering that some of it is intended to *contain* food stuff, it seems to be an odd choice to carry. I'm not sure, maybe the stench washes away after you give it a good first rinse, but I never risk it, so I just go with glass. We needed to renovate the complete wardrobe and want to take advantage of their Elfa discount so went to their Costa Mesa store on a Saturday afternoon and was told to wait for 25mins to see their design team to place order before taking stock. So we went to Starbucks for a drink to kill time and after waiting for 1 hour, there's still no staff, no known time when a staff is available to take order. We asked to see the shop manager, Ganette. The least helpful person in the shop actually ! No clue how to manage staff when it's such a busy Saturday on top of a special sale ! There were 4 staff at the design desk and half of them went out for break at the same time instead of releasing just one person at the desk to make sure demands are met. This shop manager Ganette told us we should make appointment (which we did as we walked in and were told 25mins later it would be our appointment). If they can't cope with walk-ins then say so right away. It is the worst retail customer experience - give an expectation to customers then can't live up to it ! As we were told staff were off for 1 hour break but apparently a staff was gone for 1.5hour! At such busy time, lunch break of 1 hour should be split in 30mins and then another 30mins as tea break to cope with heavy customer demands and to maintain sufficient staff on shop floors ! While we were waited at the store, we also witnessed customers not getting enough help around and people left cashier queues because the line was so long .. But once we got serviced - 1.5hours later, the staff was helpful and courteous. In general, the staff are all helpful.. just very poor manager in place ! Bottom line, only visit the store - 1. I came in to exchange some items and purchase something else. Had questions regarding kitchen cabinets pull out drawers but couldn't find a staff. Maybe they're short staffed? The few times I've been there within the last 2 weeks, I've notice there's not a enough staff around. Anyhow, I overheard a guest saying there's a cashier at the back of the store so I went there to ask for assistance and they sent someone out to help me within minutes. She was very helpful. Another staff at last week's trip was also very helpful as well. I will be back again to get some more organization items. Hope I'll continue to get the same service. This place is cool, cuz it just has the expected (containers) and some cool jazz like baseball holders. It also has fun and festive supplies for your house. It's somewhat like a targetish version of Crate and Barrel. The stuff isn't as classy, but you walk through there eyeballing random things, some of which, you just might take home. After Honeybuns bought a bunch more spices, our little spice shelf is full of stuff, and it's hard to find things. Looked for spice racks on Amazon and elsewhere, but they're usually taller than 9.5 inches. So needing to organize, came here. I haven't been in one in a long while, and it was cool to browse thru all their stuff. Finally found the spice racks that works for us and got three. Not cheap, but it fits and it fits the way we cook (very important). Will come back again if I ever need more organizing stuff. read more

I fully support their enterprise. So we are all addicted to plastic that is worth nothing in Asia. Why is that we ask ourselves? Because clutter matters, clutter invades, and clutter conquers. So, I am not ashamed to be addicted to worthless plastic. I did try to buy furniture there once, a bungee chair, and maybe 2 laundry baskets. I wouldn't recommend furniture here unless you're into the more disposable laminate types, and not all laundry hampers are created equal. However, for all those stuff hidden from view- little shelves, drawer organizers, underbed containers, blanket storage boxes, high quality hangers, office organizers, cord organizers, Simplehuman trash cans, mailing boxes, boxes for the kitchen, Container Store is bar none* they have more sizes than any other store, and for a perfect clutter free fit for your home, size variety matters much! This Costa Mesa location is also bar none, I've been here a lot and every single time, their service was unfailing, location clean and organized, its my love land. Their online ordering process is a joke for a big company. I ordered something online at 9PM on a Sunday and called to cancel my order first thing Monday morning as I was going to be by the south coast plaza store and would buy. The person told me I could not cancel but she wrote down in my file it would be redirected back to container store and not shipped to me. It sounded improper to me so I called again on Tuesday and a different person confirmed this is their process and said it was noted not to ship to me. A week later the product was delivered to my house. I called on 8/4 and told the person my situation. She was kinda rude and said fedex would come by on 8/5 to pick it up. The thing I love about this store is that you can find things here that no other store offers. I love walking around and looking at everything they have. The staff was very friendly and the restrooms were spotless. You have to love this place! There is a gadget or container for everything under the sun, it's crazy! The only drawback is my car isn't big enough to hold everything I want and my wallet doesn't carry enough cash to pay for it all. I've bought things from a shower caddy to a key organizer to hold your house keys and wallet, etc. Take a walk around the store and you'll see stuff you know you have to have and don't know how you lived without it. To make matters worse, the staff is friendly and very helpful. Combine the two and it's all over for me. In all seriousness it's a great place to find ways to organize your home. I came here this last week to find some storage options for home and work. Could I find storage options cheaper at Le Target, absolutely, but I wouldn't find the selection that I did here. They have every room of my house covered, as well as my office and desk. I was really happy with the selection of items and the variety of options. It can be overwhelming... here are some suggestions. First of all, come in to the store with a good idea of what you need. Second, I had to wander through the store completely before I put things in my basket (too many times I grabbed one thing and then found a better option further along and had to take the other item back). Check for coupons before you go. Educators can get 10% off, but you need to sign up before you get there. A suggestion to the People in Charge: You need to rethink the shopping carts. They are great for small item shopping, but unmanageable for larger items. You should provide some easily manueverable flats (think Home Depot) that would allow us to fit more in the cart/flat. Also, hooks of some type on the front of the cart would be great. I had a cart full of containers and a full bag, and it was tough to hang on to both as I went over those ridiculous speed bumps on the sidewalk. Customer service was great...Thanks! read more

Organizing HEAVEN for the OCD in all of us. I LOVE this store for the acrylic makeup/beauty/jewelry storage. It transforms your vanity table or room from drab to fab, clean and sleek rather than those cheap ugly sterilite drawers. So many options! Yes, we are paying for OVERPRICED shiny plastic, but who cares? It's a one stop shop for all of my container & decor needs. (Look out for the sales.) I bought the brushed chrome clothing rack less than a year ago, and it's held up pretty well so far. My family members bought cheaper versions at Walmart or Target, but they weren't adjustable. They also sell single plastic clothing hangers in a variety of colors, for those of you who organize your closet by color/style and match your hanger to your clothing item (I do). It saves time trying to find things in the morning, don't judge! Lol It's a pretty big and organized store, not too difficult to find what you're looking for. But then again, this is the only container store I've been to because it's at a convenient location for me. First time here. Wow, I've been missing out! Considering I'm type-A personality and have self-diagnosed OCD, I fell in love with this store as soon as I walked through the doors. Everything from Tupperware, storage, organizers - all sizes and purposes. You'll go crazy trying to organize.. how's that for an oxymoron? :) Prices are a bit higher than the big box stores like Walmart and target... The Container Store is in the nightmare shopping center known as Metro Pointe. It is on the corner as you enter from Bear St., next to Best Buy. Parking and traffic control here are pathetic. The store is pretty big and divided on the type of area you may need a container or storage. It ranges from shelving and space saving solutions to kitchen food containers. They seemed understaffed since all of the staff was at the registers. I could really get any help finding what I needed. Once there was a break I could approach and ask a question. They ended up not have what I was looking for. They seem to have a lot of different type containers but not a lot of choices within that type. I kind of have to take what they have. I really do not have a price comparison on this one since they did have what I was looking for, a 1 gallon fluid container with secure lid. I ended up going to Target and buying a gallon of car wiper fluid just to have the container. Oh well. Overall, they have some good and interesting things but they may not have what you need. read more

Closet materials are awesome! Customer service is the worst. We've had 4 closets with ELFA, we have purchased products there many times. It seems there was a change in staff. They used to be approachable and welcoming. Now they are snooty. I approached two of them while they were looking at the computer, they did not acknowledge me saying "we'll be right with you". Walked in with the intention of only getting a couple of storage baskets and I walked out with a cart full of unimaginable containers and a receipt stating I spent 120 bucks. "How did that happen?" as I load up my car with containers for makeup brushes, cotton pads, and hair goodies. This place is dangerous because of all the crazy containers and storage they offer. You never think of certain containers until you see it. I literally went through every aisle saying there's a container for that shit? They sell your regular run of the mill storage containers, travel bottles, clothing storage, than down to little baby containers for salad dressing, it's crazy. I am a sucker for the single functional container that can really only be used for one thing, for example the make up brush container that I bought. It has all these tubes connected to each other in various lengths and widths which looks cool but when I took it home I realized that some of these tubes could only hold one of my bigger brushes which minimizes the amount of brushes I can store. I would have been better off with a mug for my brush storage but I did like the look of the container. They also let you know you can use the same container in the bathroom for your tooth brushes, hair brushes, and tooth paste. I also bought this mini lazy susan for my vanity which I will post a picture of. I literally picked up a bunch of random vanity containers because of how sneaky the container store is. They have random containers that most people would just look pass but they fill it with everyday things that you probably have at home which makes you think "that's a good idea, I need to get that container." Which unfortunately that's how they suckered me in. The container store is a place you can kind of get lost in especially if you're just there to browse because browsing turns into buying and boy did I pay for "just browsing." Honestly I love this place but I probably won't return unless I absolutely need a certain storage container or when I get paid because the Container store can easily become my expensive habit that I can't break. read more

I LOVE this place, however, I feel like I can buy clear containers for much cheaper at Target or even KMart. I love all their products and displays. All unique and modern-looking. They also have really cool gadgets like pill boxes, paper soap, LED keychains, and eyeglass repair kit keychains, etc. I came here looking for the freestanding hanger stand I bought my mother about a year ago. I knew they still carried it because I saw it on their website. I asked the older woman cashier if she could check for me and instead of looking into her computer or physically moving to the section where it would be, she told me about a smaller, plastic version that was $5. I told her I didn't want that and because a line started to form, I just bought my item and left. I guess it was my fault for not asking her to do more, but I assumed if she had any customer service skills she would have at the very least looked it up on the computer. Whatever... I just asked her if the availability is correct online for most items and she said yes. I went home and checked online and sure enough, it says it was in stock. IN STOCK. Not LIMITED STOCK or UNAVAILABLE. I marched back in and asked another person to show me where the Free Standing Hanger Collector was. This girl was much better and physically went over the the general section. Well I guess they had moved it from it's original spot because SHE couldn't even find it at first! Anyway I got what I wanted and left. Lesson learned: If you want something ASK UP FRONT and if you get a SH*TTY response/reaction, GO TO SOMEONE ELSE. Overall, the staff is pretty friendly, but they should have been more customer service oriented, especially if they charge like $10 for a container I could buy at Target for about $6. read more
