Terrific experience. As I'm sure everyone who is even looking at reviews for computer repair, I was in despair. Luckily, I stumbled across these reviews and went and saw Brian. He is extremely knowledgeable, honest, fair and was able to get me back up and running in 2 hours. I also was able to witness a few other customers walking in with various problems and not only was impressed with his multi tasking, but also his interactions with each person that walked through the door. I noticed a couch, a tv playing Cartoon Network, and a guitar in the back room. Clearly, working on computers is not a priority here. I brought a computer in, 65 dollars later the problem is worse than ever, and two new issues have surfaced since the machine has been in their hands. After the first night my computer was with them a bored sounding guy called telling me my computer had crashed and he needed 150 to repair it. I told him I wanted to have a look, I came in to get my computer, turns out it had never crashed. I'm not calling them scammers, just disinterested, disorganized, and embarrassingly unprofessional. He repaired my MAC in 30 minutes for half of what another shop quoted and invited me to come in right away as opposed the the other shop that required an appointment and that I leave the computer. Going to his shop is like dropping in on a friend of a friend who can fix what you need fixed. He definitely loves what he does and can figure stuff out that he hasn't done before. I would go back. Very nice guy but there was obvious hostility toward Apple products and my Mac. I brought it in for a RAM increase from 4 to 8 and I had to repeat my order three times before it was finally ordered and it still didn't work. I then had to return my Mac twice because they didn't put my old RAM in right. I do not recommend, especially if you have a Mac. read more

What can I say about sweet Brian, before I ever went there with a problem, I called on several occasions and he patiently answered my stupid questions every time and was very helpful. Recently, I took in my laptop when my pics locked up and he found several viruses. I left it with him for a day or so and when I returned, he had "cleaned it up"! It runs much faster now as he assured me it would and he charged me exactly what he quoted the first time I walked in the door. Brian runs a great little shop on Magazine St by Napoleon Ave in Uptown New Orleans. I had seen this shop for years with no need to pop in, but the if it ain't broke don't fix it finally came calling. I phoned the shop to see if it was ok to drop my computer by. My computer is old and started to show signs of its age and may have picked up some malware on an unsecured network recently so I needed a professional to take a gander. I dropped the computer off the same evening that I telephoned. A day and a half later Brian got the PC cleaned up. He removed some malware and got me on my way for a reasonable fee. P.S. He knows music gear too, there are used guitar pedals in the shop as well! read more

I took my laptop in to be checked out as it stopped charging. Brian? (I think was his name) was very friendly and checked out the connections and my charger, and quickly determined that my charger was the culprit. As it was such a quick fix, he insisted that I didn't owe him anything for the diagnosis. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Took longer than quoted repair time. But what I like most was that he was honest. Basically I was told it was better to get a newer system versus trying to get it repaired and updated. I have been busy and am finally getting to this great little shop on Magazine. My husband's PC was locked up and he is the kind of guy I can fix this! Well long story short he couldn't. Went on Yelp and chose this shop. So glad we did. We dropped it off late in the day and the gentleman had fixed the computer for the next day! Got the operating system reloaded on the PC. He found my husband's documents too! LOL. If we have any other problems will bring it to this shop. Thank you for your help. I am a college student and my external hard drive crashed unexpectedly but I brought it here (despite it not being listed as a specialty) and got it fixed the same day for so cheap. I'm so glad I went to Brian. I got the run around from Apple for four days until they said they needed to erase all of my data and could not back anything up. Something told me this wasn't right, so I brought the computer into Brian and he diagnosed the problem in 15 minutes. Geek Squad tried to convince me that I needed to buy their membership plan and then only after paying some $150 could my laptop be assessed- not to mention they would have to ship it out for that to happen. My Macbook was making weird noises, so I wanted someone to have a look at it. Since I work with my laptop all day every day, I was hoping to drop it off and pick it up on the same day. I found this shop on Yelp and it had good reviews, so I gave it a call. Brian said I could just drop in and he would have a look at it. I just waited in the shop while he determined what the problem was. His diagnosis: the fan did not work properly. He said he was going to order a new fan for me and that he would call me once the fan was in. Now, admittedly, he forgot to call me when the fan arrived but it's not a big deal. I just called again a couple days later and he said the fan had arrived and that I could just drop by and he would put it in. So I came by when it was convenient for me and he replaced the old fan with the new fan in less than an hour. I just waited in the shop. I paid $125. Since the fan replacement, my laptop has not made the weird sounds again and everything seems to work fine. I am giving 5 stars because: - I did not have to leave my laptop at the shop at any point. I was able to simply wait at the shop while Brian swiftly diagnosed and then fixed the issue. That was very important to me, since I need my laptop for my work. - Brian solved the problem. The laptop now does not make the sounds anymore. - Brian was very uncomplicated. I was able to just drop in when it was convenient for me and my little dog was even allowed to wait in the shop with me. - Everything was very transparent. Brian looked at and worked at the laptop right in front of me, showing and explaining to me what he was doing. I recommend this shop! read more

I just moved to New Orleans and desperately need to start job hunting. Unfortunately I had spilled water on my laptop with all my resumes and cover letters and whatnot on it about a month ago. Truly terrible. He was supposed to fix a hinge on my laptop. $500 dollars later, I realize he has ripped out the antenna, cables, and screws in my Macbook. Worst possible service (it took him 2 weeks to fix a basic hinge and he still didn't do it right) and he has absolutely NO EXPERIENCE working with MACS. DO NOT TRUST. read more

Would give six stars if I could. Brian is the bomb. Fast, good, and not going to rip you off. To the other guy who thought you shouldn't get your Macs repaired here- I'm writing this review on my resurrected Macbook Pro which yesterday was an inert paperweight and now has a new hard drive, OS X reinstalled, and the salvaged data from my old drive sitting nicely on it. This cost me approximately the cost of a new hard drive, and about 1/10th the cost of a comparable new laptop replacement (which is what I figured I'd have to do). This is a classic New Orleans shop: eclectic, brilliant, a steal at the price, and a little funky. I won't bring my computers anywhere else in the city. read more

I have never bothered to write a Yelp review before (sorry) but am now because Brian is fantastic! My laptop fell whilst turned on and I was sure the hard drive was shot - it was exhibiting all the signs of malfunction (i.e. clicking noises, repeatedly cycling through a "repair" screen without fixing anything, etc.) Brian was able to take apart my entire laptop and essentially rebuild it - and he completely fixed it, with no file damage whatsoever - for only $125. He did this all within a few hours. If you need computer assistance/repairs, Brian is phenomenal. Also he has a very cute puppy, which seems important. read more

My 2012 Mac stopped working suddenly, and Brian saved the day. He accepted my walk-in on Friday and had the computer back up and running and ready for pick up by the afternoon with no data lost. I enjoyed meeting and chatting with him too. It was the kind of experience you hope to have at a small business: personalized service that was honest, efficient, effective, and reasonably-priced. If you have a Mac, do yourself a favor: check with a local person first (I recommend Brian.). When I reached out to the Apple Store, I struggled to get someone actually located in the local store. When I did, I was told that the earliest appointment I could get would be in 72 hours. Plus, I *suspect* that the service folks there would likely encourage you to buy a new machine if you walk in with a model as aged as mine. Blown away. It was almost like a magic trick how good they were. I thought my computer was done for, but in a span of less than ten minutes he had it running like new. The best part was it was so inexpensive, it almost didn't seem like a fair deal. Anyways, the guy knows his stuff, and I think you'd be crazy to go anywhere else. A rare find! A computer geek with interpersonal skills and in-depth knowledge. In a small storefront on Magazine Street in an old shopping district, I entered a dusty shop full of antique audio and computer equipment dating from the 1960s or earlier, with monitors from some of the first personal computers to see the world in the 1970s peering like long lost friends from the past. We came here with a modern, 2016, laptop whose keyboard and monitor didn't communicate properly. We left 30 minutes and a mere $50 later with a repaired monitor, a purged hacking attempt, a malware sentinal installed and some advice on cloud computing. The owner was patient, attentive, while providing expert advice and service. His personal story of humble beginnings, and surviving corporate IT revealed his combined knowledge of both computers and their human operators. If you need some relief from the impersonal support desks with distracted and overwhelmed technicians and want 21 Century technology with a small town shop personality this is your place. My new go-to service spot for Macs, PCs, and it looks like old audio devices. Good for service, but also a pleasant blast from the past. I was losing hope that my 2010 apple laptop could be repaired. I then scoured New Orleans computer repair sites and reviews. I found Computer Geeks, called Brian who assessed the laptop as repairable; he gave me a price that was less than a $2500 replacement cost for a new laptop and within 2 days he called to tell me it was fixed! I can't say enough about Brian. I brought in my iMac after being disgusted with Apple Repair on Freret...and good thing I did. The idiots over at Apple Repair made a mess of the inside of my iMac and had actually SUPERGLUED my screen back on after replacing my hard drive with a used one which failed within months. The fan was completely clogged and screws were not tightened, leaving the inside of my Mac a complete mess and a wonder that it worked at all. Not only did Brian videotape what he discovered for me, but put things back the right way and did it all in a matter of days (which probably would have been reduced to a few hours if we were not waiting on new parts).
