Amazing, superb, fast, reasonable, helpful, other great stuff. My HP desktop was plunking along fine, then....poof! Black screen of death. Yes, that can be worse than the blue screen of death, but I digress. Checked around a bit, as we are new to the area, and found this well reviewed service located UNDER ground beneath a coffee shop in Durham on ninth street. I was in a bit of a panic as I am on the box about 12-14 hours a day doing internet marketing and have clients depending on me to produce. (PS - Backups are done daily now) Been at this about 20 years so I've been around the proverbial PC block when it comes to repairs. Called Pam and told her it was probably either the power supply or (gasp) the hard drive. She said come on over we'll take a look at it. An hour later Matt had it on the bench and said 'yep, it's the power supply, about $70 incl part/labor/tax. I was in a rush so rather than try to save a couple bucks doing it myself, I put my baby in their hands and am now writing this review on my newly cleaned and smoothly running PC. Back on track with only a couple hours lost. Suffice it to say I think these folks are tops and recommend them to anyone who needs advice or service on their tech / PC tools. When I called Computer Cellar with an unexpected emergency near the close of business on Friday, Gabriel, the operations manager, answered the phoned, listened to my problem and without any hesitation said "I can fix it, bring it in now." I made the call from another local repair shop whose technician was "uncomfortable" with trying to repair it and did not want to further harm my machine--I greatly appreciated the honesty but still had the problem. Computer Cellar was one of the local repair shops on the initial repair shop's suggested list for other local computer repair businesses. I was very impressed with the seemingly professional collaboration among these computer repair businesses. While Gabriel is not a therapist, he certainly interacts with clients with the utmost empathy and care because we are simply at a loss without our lives in the digital space of our personal computers. But Gabriel saved the day and my Sunday School lesson review, which was in progress when my problem surfaced, by repairing my computer on the spot. Computer Cellar gained another customer, and for any future computer issues, it will be my first call. only because i absolutely adore these people did i debase myself with those stupid YELP profile questions, throwing my inordinate insistence on utter privacy into a garbage can so yelp can gain control of all my contacts and every shred of personal info they are so determined to collect, parse, quantify and sell to the highest bidder. Absolutely fantastic place. I had a few things become messed up in my desktop PC, and was at my wit's end trying to fix it myself. Knowing that it would be hugely expensive AND take forever at Geek Squad, I scoured online to try and find a nearby place that may be able to get things running faster, as I need my computer for work. Lo and behold, I take it in, and they finish faster than I expected, and for half of the costs I was prepared to pay for my issues! I made sure to bring it back to help with a few other upgrades later, and am still surprised at how cheap the work is. It really feels like the prices I would be charged if I had brought it to a friend to get fixed themselves. I truly cannot recommend this place highly enough. Very comfortable interaction here as a "senior" without technical background. Had the BSOD on a 2015 Dell AIO desktop. Gabriel and Simon were upfront and blunt about the age of the computer and the likelihood it was the hard drive or more. They graciously presented their expectations of the cause, the repair options and costs upfront with NO PRESSURE to do anything. Offered advice if I just wanted to replace it. Their diagnostic fee is nominal compared to the purchase price of the item so I took a chance. And so glad I did...Gabriel fixed the computer in a few hours. My more important compliment is how TRUSTWORTHY they are. They knew how high I was willing to go to retain the computer, but completed the repair at the least expensive of the options they presented. read more

If you need computer help, this is the place to go. I was in NC temporarily while my dad was being treated at Duke. I was careless and closed my Mac Air with my earbuds still on the key pad. One cracked screen and several quotes later (including online quotes & Apple store, among others), I was looking at a repair job that was around $450-$500. In my second round of searching for computer repair shops, I came across The Computer Cellar, this gem of a repair store. They were gracious in working with me in my distressed state, transparent in how they were going to charge me for the repair, and best of all, the repair was a FRACTION of what other repair places would've charged (less than $200). This place is awesome. I brought in my Macbook Pro, which are not easy to work on, and i had dropped it. They started by really figuring out what the problem was, and then got me exactly what i needed - without a big delay and they had plenty of used parts in stock like the little screws that you drop and lose or strip out over the years. If you have a Macbook pro that needs a display or anything else, go there. Also, don't be so sure you know exactly what's wrong with it, an experienced and careful technician can tell you stuff you never even thought of. These folks are all great; it's like finding honest and competent car mechanics. For several years now I have taken them the problems that I cannot fix myself (or don't want to bother), and they have been helpful, upfront, fair, and willing to spend time to explain what is and is not the problem. They understand how much we have come to depend on the machines, and do all they can to get them back to us quickly, completely fixed, with the options we choose out of the possibilities they present to us. I can't say enough good things about the service at the Computer Cellar in Durham. My laptop was seriously compromised by a very good hacker. There was a serious concern that nothing on the machine could be salvaged. To recover the data and clean the machine we had to access the Microsoft recovery key website. This took days of work and constant communication with the techs at the Cellar. These folks were great; we recovered all my data and cleaned the computer. This is the first time ever I am writing a review online. That is how pleased I am by the folks at Computer Cellar. They did a neat job on my Macbook Pro repairing all the bad components after I spilled liquid on it. I was first told a ridiculous price at the apple store before I found these guys. The gave me no guarantees but by the time they finished, my computer was better than before and price was very reasonable. They even repaired the CD drive at no extra cost and always called to update me before doing anything. I only wish I found them sooner. read more

U-Break-I-Fix wanted $100 just to open my computer and said it could take up to 9 days to get it back to me. I went to the Computer Cellar and they immediately opened it up and fixed the problem. They did in 9 minutes what it would take their competitor 9 days to do. Shockingly, they did not even charge me for their time which was just incredible. I cannot recommend The Computer Cellar more. I had a laptop with a messed up computer jack. Went it and got the issue diagnosed almost immediately. They were very up-front with the cost so there was no surprise when I had to pay and they communicated with me when the part they ordered for my laptop got delayed. You know it's the little things... Yesterday, I came in with my laptop ready to fall apart because it had lost a few screws on the back over the past couple of months. After reminiscing with their staff over our lego years as we searched through a tub of screws, they secured my laptop, gave me a few extra screws, and sent me on my way free of charge. Highly recommended! I've used this company twice for different pc problems, once in 2013 (a hardware problem-a row of usb ports on the op of the pc needed to be tightened), and then just last week (Win7 was apparently corrupted, and they did a side-by-side reinstall, as well as adding some free security software).
