The Common Man rest stops used to be the best. Now they are a mess. I went to buy a bag of popcorn widely available everywhere. It was $8.50 with the price in the bag $4.99. I asked the cashier. His answer? "You're at a rest stop, wha'da'ya expect." I did not think I was at Fenway or a ski resort. I was at a Common Man that is no longer for the common man. Not to mention it used to be a nice place to stop. Now there's stuff jammed everywhere. I have always respected the Common Man chain and their good hospitality. Every time I go up to the White Mountains I've made a stop here. Restrooms are very clean. I've gotten pizza (can make the veggie pizza vegan without cheese and it still tasted decent) and a hot chocolate (nondairy milks available) once that tasted good. Made an impromptu stop at this rest area on the way home, and came across this donut stall. Located right behind the welcome / information desk, you can miss it. The place was clean and organized , and was bustling. But the customers were helped right away. It looked and smelled delicious, so we decided to buy 4 boxes of a dozen donuts to take home to our families. The staff who helped us with our order also packaged everything in one large box that we we able to carry back into the car. I tried them all, and they were delicious!! Warm and soft... Was stuck in traffic so decided to stop for some lunch to what we thought was the "Hi-Way Diner". Girl working told us it's been closed since covid. But..nonetheless we found this fun rest stop, and I'm glad we did. This rest stop impressed me from its high class presentation to the honestly tasty food. This is a food court style joint. There's the main food place, which serves sandwiches, fried food, pizza, etc. There's also a coffee shop and an ice cream/donut shop. I'll be honest with you, I wasn't expecting much from the food...but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Food came out so quickly and was pretty good. Ice cream was eh but the wrap and mozzarella sticks exceeded my expectations. Keep in mind it's obvi not a Michelin star restaurant, but it'll hit the spot. Across the food court there's a general store which has souvenirs, food, basic necessities...basically anything one might need while road tripping. It's also connected to the big NH outlet liquor store, and there's a gas station on property. It's just really cute inside and has everything one might need. Stop here! read more

They have a variety of made to order sandwiches, usually a good soup or two, real potato chips (and the store-bought kind too), pizza, etc. -- in short, a sophisticated sandwich shop in a highway rest area. Don't confuse this with the Common Man restaurants found elsewhere in New Hampshire -- this is upscale fast food / deli, not a sit down restaurant, although there are tables and chairs in front of the counter, food-court style. But if you're eating on the go, this is far preferable to the usual fast food. 5-stars as fast food goes, but only 4-stars in practice (it's still fast food, even if made to order with good quality ingredients). read more

Stoped in today to grab a sandwich. I usually get the bacon blue burger or the Ruben. It has been pretty decent in the past. Today I ordered the ruben and it was underwhelming. They only had two slices of corned beef and a little bit of Sauerkraut. Come on guys, Rubens are known for being stacked high. The food isn't too bad depending on what you order. Between the food court options, the bakery, the ice cream place and the general store there are tons of choices and amenities. Pretty much none of it is particularly healthy tho. There is also the liquor/wine outlet with a plethora of alcoholic beverages available. The decor/design is cute, the general store is cramped as hell though and virtually EVERYTHING is sold at a mark up. A pint of chocolate milk will cost you as much as a full GALLON at a grocery store ($3) and not everything even has pricing displayed, which always feels kind of suspect to me when businesses do this. Seating is pretty average and there could be more of it available given how busy it can be here. Bathrooms are constantly crowded and more or less typical of a truck/rest stop. Lastly, the customer service is mediocre to bad. Given the pricing and cute rustic look of the place, I would Chick-fil-A style treatment but it's much closer to McDonalds where employees barely disguise their disdain/indifference towards customer. Several fail to ask questions that could've helped avoid ordering being placed incorrectly and the tone/body language is unfriendly. It's disappointing to say the least. read more

We stopped into the Common Man Hi-Way Diner during our New England road trip on a whim when we were feeling hungry. This spot was fantastic! We were so glad we stopped here for lunch! The diner is located in the Common Man Roadside rest stop, which is a great spot that has plenty of parking, restrooms, wi-fi, shopping, visitor's information, fuel pumps, liquor and wine sales, a bank, and several restaurants and casual food options. We landed on the Hi-Way Diner, because it sounded the best at the time. I had the Chicken Avocado sandwich, which came with a grilled chicken breast topped with cheddar, bacon, and avocado aioli, and it was served with chips. It was delicious! Way better than I was expecting! The diner is 50's-style and offers classic diner favorites for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. They also have old-time frappes hand-dipped ice cream. Unfortunately, we only had a chance to try lunch, and we were so full afterward that we didn't opt for dessert. If we find ourselves driving by this spot again I would gladly stop for lunch, dinner, or dessert. If you see this spot, or if you're in the area, I definitely recommend checking it out. Just grabbed ice cream during a recent highway pit stop. Limited flavors - maybe a dozen? Maybe 1/2 dozen toppings. They have the basics covered. Including the oddly popular moose tracks. I'm not sure what brand of ice cream they serve, but it was smooth and creamy. No complaints on taste! Seating is in the food court area. No separate seating. And this rest area doesn't have outdoor seating that I am aware of. I'm bumping to 4 stars from 3 due to price. Kiddie cones were decent sized. And only $2.50. 3 servings for under $10. This is probably a little above in average roadside restaurant. We stopped at a rest area and went in to use the bathrooms and to go into the New Hampshire liquor store. We stopped by the Common Man and it had the typical burgers and sandwiches and salads and really nothing highly interesting. The food of the Common Man restaurants is usually pretty good but this very much looked like fast food and we didn't even bother to stop and order. We went on our way and found a restaurant off the highway that we enjoyed more than I think we would have had the rest area. It just didn't look that interesting. read more
