Heading to a Sunday lunch, taking the backroads, and drove past Hunt's Strawberry Farm on Watkins…read moreRd in northeast Wake county. Actually turned around and went back, thinking fresh picked strawberries would be icing on the cake so to speak. Well, drove down to the little red building and was disappointed to see only cash or checks taken. Should have known that, being a country plot open only during peak berry season. Digging in all pockets I had a few bucks on hand and thought well I'll just ask them to weigh out whatever I could pay for. Not only did I get to pick right-out-of-the-ground berries I got more than plenty and a nice surprise to boot! Please.Go out and support this local farm. You'll be glad you did. You pick or they pick until the sweetness lasts, but hurry the field will be closing soon!

Last year, it was late in the 2024 strawberry season, and I stopped to pick some berries. I said I would go home and return with the money (which would take about 45 minutes). The owner told me to just pay what I could and post a nice message on FB to let people know they were still open for business. The family that runs this place is amazing and the berries are always delicious. I brought my children here to pick berries when they were younger and the people could not have been nicer and more welcoming. I can't wait to get back there this year! They have berries already picked, if you don't want to pick your own.

Pace Family Farms is the best! We are so fortunate to have this family farm in the area. My husband…read moreand I are big fans of their weekly specials and are excited for their CSA to launch again next spring. We're also excited for strawberry picking since we haven't been yet! In the fall, they sell decorations such as mums, pumpkins, hay bales, and corn stalks. They accept them back as donations at the end of the season and put it to good use as fertilizer, erosion control, or treats for the cows and pigs, which we love because of its sustainability and reusability. In the winter, they host an annual Christmas Craft fair, which had a ton of amazing local vendors and was such a fun time. The Pace family is incredibly friendly and you get such a good amount of produce for the price. We always leave feeling like we got a great deal! Go pay them a visit!

This season, they had three sunflower days so make sure to check their website. Sunflowers could be cut for $1 a stem if you bring your own scissors. Besides the sunflowers, they have a produce stand with watermelons; cantaloupe; peppers; corn; tomatoes; squash and potatoes. The produce stand has different hours each day so that it more people can shop as we all have different schedules. The staff is friendly and helpful. Remember to bring your own bags or boxes to hold your produce.
