Since this is the first u-pick farm I've been to in NC, I do not know if it is the norm. If I find out that it is, I will adjust my rating. This is a family owned "pick your own" farm right outside of Burlington where you can pick your…read moreown peaches right off the trees along with blueberries and blackberries during the growing season. Follow them on Facebook to keep up with what's available and hours of operation. Once you arrive, you can get an empty basket or bucket from under the shelter and head off to pick your peaches or berries and return to the shelter with your harvest where they will weigh it and ring up your purchases. Today was opening day for the 2017 season, the peach trees and blueberry bushes were loaded. The peach I ate when I got home was awesome. Also be sure to check out Jasper at "Jasper's Fresh Squeezed Lemonade" here at Buttermilk Creek, Jasper sets up his lemonade stand here and offers some cold beverages which was a refreshing treat after pickin' peaches in the summer heat. Even though I can't see it, I know everything will come freshly picked and very clean (although I still wash it all). They say they have "grocery store prices." I'm not sure I agree--the prices were a bit higher than the stores where I usually shop, but the freshness and quality make up for the difference. At Papa Spuds, you order online between Friday afternoon and Monday at 12 p.m. From 12 to 1 on Monday, you can get discounted produce, but they had a limited selection when I tried this. Later on Monday, you get an email telling you when they'll deliver. The packaging is recyclable, and you're expected to put it out on the morning of the next delivery, so it can be reused. I like that you have the choice of buying a weekly or bi-weekly box. Although I haven't tried any, yet, they also offer meat and seafood, along with the more-common fruits, vegetables and dairy products.
