What a comfortable little cafe! I happened upon this place by accident- didnt expect it in the strip mall but Im glad I stopped in. It was a strange time of day (4:00 -ish) but they were serving food so I got a soup and sandwich combo. It was great. Freshly made. The Coffeehouse has wonderful coffee at reasonable prices. 4 stars for great coffee and friendly service, but minus one little star for a lackluster food menu (like microwaved eggs), but hey, it's a coffee house! About that coffee... I've been coming here for years and I've tried most of the blends and single origins. I think Tanzanian is their best bean, followed closely by the Rwandan. The Coffeehouse is a hidden gem . Charles Benbow and his late wife Adrian have created one of friendliest coffee shops around. Charles roasts the beans on the premises. The aromas are just fantastic. I highly recommend all the coffees. However, my 2 favorites are Charles's Blend and the Williamsburg Roast. Both coffees are just outstanding! The shop its self is comfortable and very very clean. The service is outstanding. Rachel is wonderful. Even with Covid 19 protocols, she did a wonderful job of making me welcome. Ot has been 10 years since my last visit. I was amazed that Charles remembered my last visit. We both had a great time back '10 and just as good time seeing each other again. Charles has created an atmosphere of friendliness and wariness. Thank you Charles! May God protect you and keep you safe till the day comes when you Adrian reunite. read more

What a great cafe! When moving to a new city, I am always on the hunt for coffee shop that does exactly what this coffee shop does! They roast their own coffee beans (+ different flavors) makes pastries, serves lunch and of course they have a plethora of coffee drinks to choose from. Call me boring, but I like my coffee black with no sugar and sometimes a bit of almond milk or oat milk mixed in. Yesterday, when I went their special was an eggplant + vegetable crustless quiche and it was superb! Super healthy =) My friend and I arrived before they started serving lunch, so I'll have to try lunch on another day. I ordered a cup of coffee and it was served in a mug (nice touch) and my friend and I ate/drank outside. Their outdoor area is nice and has umbrellas for the sunny days, when you need shade. They also have an indoor seating area. Customer service was great and I look forward to coming back to try lunch! I'm happy to have his coffee shop about 5 mins. from where I live. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem in Williamsburg. I am up this way every couple weeks or so and was looking for a place I could just camp out and work instead of rushing back down the peninsula. I absolutely adore this place. It's unpretentious, welcoming, and has some great tasty treats. Also, big bonus - they don't play annoying music. Very coffeehouse chill vibe going on that doesn't distract you if you're having a conversation or trying to work. The past couple times I've been there, I've gotten their soup of the day. The lobster bisque was some of the best I've ever had in my life, and the butternut squash soup I had the second time was the perfect hint of fall I wanted in the dead heat of summer. They have a wide selection of tea and coffee -- you can get the beans fresh from bins. The staff is always super friendly. If you need a place to work for a few hours in the area, or you want to get off the beaten path of tourist traps in the summer, I'd highly recommend this spot. read more

First off the brewed coffee I received was good! Not great but good. I came to the shop expecting great things. They have a roaster right up front with bags of green beans. I started to get excited when I entered the store. Then I walked back to the counter. To my left we're vats of roasted coffee there for bulk purchase...Ok. Not a bad idea idea. But after coffee is roasted, it starts to lose its freshness immediately. So I didn't know based on the vats when they were roasted. Are the beans I'm getting fresh as of today...yesterday? or are they stale and old? I didn't ask because I was not there to purchase bulk. I was on vacation and in search of a great cup of coffee. Then I thought, well with this much variety, I'm sure to get some good options at least, right? So I asked the staff behind the counter, "I like coffee, what do you recommend?" Their response was an espresso drink. "Maybe a latte with a shot of vanilla..." So, a drink that masks the coffee flavor. Granted, I could have been more specific. Maybe I should have said, "I love coffee...what is the best coffee you have?" So giving them benefit of the doubt, I asked "what do you have in regular coffee." They replied that we have drip coffee and pointed to the board. There were 5 options for drip coffee. I was disappointed that this coffee roaster and coffee shop didn't have any other presentations then espresso and drip. French press, pour over ...something! Especially with all the different roasted coffee options. Finally, I asked the staff behind the counter for recommendations. One recommended the dark roast because it was "smooth". The other recommended the "full body" because "it has more caffeine". I was saddened by the limited knowledge they had about tasting notes and flavors of coffee. Again, especially with the variety of options at this store. As one coffee enthusiast to another, get the staff educated about coffee so they can speak pseudo-intelligently about the products available. They need to know their craft better then they I experienced. Also, having additional ways to present the coffee would be nice to accentuate the many different beans and roasts you have. read more

Great coffee and a great, quiet atmosphere to work in. The internet is fast. I can't speak to the food, as I did not get any. My one gripe is that the shop barely had any plugs, so unless you grab one of the seats near the plug your working time might me limited. The best coffeehouse in town hands down. Charles and his staff are wonderful! My husband absolutely loves their coffee and buys the beans for when we can't make it in. I'm not a coffee drinker, but enjoy the tea. Their breakfast sandwiches are great, and you certainly won't leave hungry. The quiche is awesome. And the scones are the best! Grab a cookie for later. my daughter and I went to visit this coffeehouse to give it a try, heard lots of great things about it. upon entering the establishment we got no greeting instead we were greeted with a blank stare from the cashier, who simply asked "what do you want?" my first mind was to walk straight out, but my daughter said let's just try it. We gave her our order and waited. Another gentleman (the owner) who was standing at the register asked her what she was making us she told him, and without looking up told us our total. This is one of my favorite Saturday morning spots because it's cozy. I describe it as feeling like a grandmother's kitchen dining area without the ready-for-moth-balls feel. The owner is always there chatting with regulars and sitting down with them while sipping some coffee himself. The brewed coffees are the thing to get, especially their flavored blends, and their pastry case has not disappointed me yet!! I have tried their muffins, tarts, croissants, danishes, etc and they all are large and wonderful! There is a $3 minimum for your debit/credit card, but that is the rule of the shopping center they are in so bring some cash if you just want a simple brewed coffee or refill. So far their lattes have not impressed but who needs them with their delicious flavored coffees and pastries! Best spot in town for that!! read more

I would like to begin this review by saying this was my first time there. The coffee was outstanding, but after my encounter with who I believe to be the owner I lost my taste for his coffee. My son, daughter, and I were sitting outside enjoying the day and I was in the middle of scolding my son for picking a beautiful yellow flower from the property when the owner came out and yelled VERY loudly at my son. I am not excusing the behavior of my developmentally delayed autistic son who functions at the level of a two -year-old for picking the flower, but what I don't understand is the approach in which my son and I were reprimanded. Being a business owner is more than just providing a good product, it's being able to connect to your community, and to make your customers feel welcomed back. Unfortunately, this was not our experience. What may seem trivial and "just a flower" means so much more to our family. It's about being sensitive and remembering everyone has a story. There is a way in which you approach people and yelling at a child the way my son was yelled at is not something I can get behind. I will not be supporting this small business and I hope in the future this gentleman whether it was the owner or an employee reflects on how they approach people in the future, both in their professional and personal environment. read more

Don't be fooled by drab, nowheresville stripmall--this place is a treasure. The confident name is aptly chosen. This most certainly is The Coffeehouse of Williamsburg. The atmosphere is deece, which is to say narrow with limited seating, but it's never too crowded. The friendly roasting master, a gentleman by the name of Charles, maintains a supremely smooth, perfectly roasted lineup. It's just such a consistently outstanding cup of coffee, every time. It seems I mistakenly interrupted the story she was telling the manager when I walked up to the counter. Her attitude was dismissive bordering on rude. She gave me my coffee. I thanked her and she turned her back and said nothing. I sipped the latte and it was perhaps the worst latte I've ever had. It tasted burned and gritty. So I found my local coffee spot in Williamsburg, finally! Don't get me wrong, I do love Starbucks, but it's just not the same as a good local joint. I'm one of THOSE people that go to a coffee shop mostly to read and enjoy the aroma. This place roasts its own beans, so the fresh coffee smell is abundant. I've been twice now, both times on a Saturday and the owner has been working on both occasions (and seems to really know his regulars). For the most part, the staff seem to be pretty knowledgeable on coffee. I really love their toasted coconut flavor! The place looks a bit dated, but there is ample seating and free wifi. There appear to be lots of regulars, both who linger around to chat and who get their coffees to take on the road. They sell quite a variety of whole bean coffee and will special order. It's honestly out of my price range ($11-$13 per pound) but seems to be a big part of the business. Personally, my favorite coffee companion is biscotti. They do sell it here, but it's packaged and on the times I've been they've only offered one flavor. If I'm in the mood for a muffin or cookie, however, they have a lot of fresh options there. They also serve quiche and sandwiches for the breakfast and lunch crowd. I can see myself making this my main coffee spot to lounge at on lazy Saturdays. While Aromas at Merchant's Square is pretty on par quality-wise (and has fresh biscotti), it's almost always busy and I feel guilty lingering there too long since empty seats are hard to come by. read more

Every time I go to Williamsburg, I come here. The owner even said "hey, you're back from Texas!" last time I walked in. Nice to be remembered! They roast their own beans (admittedly I'm not a fan of burning coffee beans) but they can't get any fresher than that! The house cups (drinking in) are nice and big. The coffee is strong (I like it that way) and the locals that hang out there are very friendly. Their politics are 100% opposite of mine, and we talk politics and laugh at each other (in a friendly way) whenever I'm there! :-D read more
