Gone but never forgotten... I'm sad that it took me so long to try them, but it was mainly do to it's proximity from my house. I love all seafood. And who doesn't like French fries? But fish & chips specifically, is not something that I ever really crave. But luckily, I had a job outing at the CODfather and it literally blew all of our minds. Even if you get a half order, it's still huge! And same can be said about the fish sandwich. I usually cut the filet in half and ate one part separately. Aside from the size, it's always cooked perfectly. Great quality meat and not overly battered. My only complaint is I wish there was more seasoning in the batter. However, to offset that, they literally have some of the best cocktail sauce and tarter sauce that I've ever had. I've only had them twice, but they managed to earn a special place in my heart. Found time to come back down here to use the last of my gift card that I got for Christmas. Fish was fantastic but hardly any chips, quite disappointed to be honest. First time ever being to COD father, went with a friend who's been there before. First off when you get there, there is a line about 15-20 deep prior to even opening! That should tell you something. We got in, ordered 2 fish and chips baskets, and drinks. I believe we were order 17. It took maybe 15 mins for the server to bring to us, which as busy as they were was fast! When we made it through the door, I looked out the window, and the line was still long outside! We shared an order of the World Famous Fish & Chips and also tried a chicken curry pie. The fish fillet was HUGE! Came out hot and perfectly crispy. I tried to pick it up for a photo and it was hard to touch with my bare hands because it was so hot. The chips were exactly that, chips. Well, the British kind. Comes with a flavorful and creamy tartar sauce. And the pie was perfectly flakey and seasoned perfectly. TBH I love that they just keep it simple. I got the half order of fish n chips for $12.50 and the tartar sauce $3. Nicely breaded, flaky cod plus chips were not salty at all which I appreciate. The tartar sauce is a must, the texture is coarse, not blended. Staff was busting their chops to sling orders out in a fast manner. There's a numbering system so stay alert to get your order if you're taking-out. There's plenty of seating available indoors, bar seating at the window, tables outside. The quality is great still, though. The breading on the fish is so flavorful and I love that they provide vinegar for the chips. I also got a sausage roll which was really yummy! Just the price of everything made me feel like it wasn't worth the visit. I asked for an extra tartar sauce because I thought they were served in small sauce containers and it was a 3$ charge. Saw the name of this restaurant and knew I had to try it on my short trip to CHS. Its an homage to British pub culture in a very unexpected part of town. It has a very casual feel to it and seems like it could be a local favorite. I came right before closing on a Sunday (7PM) and they were busy filling takeaway orders. The cashier at the front was super nice and apologetic and asked if I wouldn't mind ordering at the bar so I didn't have to wait. No bother, went to order at the bar and the bartender was extremely kind and pleasant. She was helping some other folks at the bar and kept convo with them and allowed them to eat in even though they were close to closing. Overall, service seemed impeccable. Food wise, I ordered fish and chips to go. Sadly, my order was messed up and I got a double order of fish and no chips. I was slightly disappointed until I tried the fish. It was super light and flakey, super tender meat and just overall an amazing piece of fried fish. I liked the batter so much, I was eating any and all stray pieces that flew off with my bites and tears. We were craving some fish and this place was on Ubereats with no delivery fee so I finally got to try them, and they were everything I hoped they would be. I got a curry chicken pie, an extra fish, and a big fish meal for hubby. The pie, on arrival, was very dry. I took a little bite and the flavor was very mild. I put it away to eat my fish. The fish is INCREDIBLE. Flaky, light, perfectly battered and fried. The housemade tartar sauce is amazing, as good as or better than my own. The serving is generous. The fries were good even after traveling to us. The next day, the curry chicken pie was FAR better, the crust having soaked up the goodness and relaxed a bit. I recommend saving it overnight in the fridge for best taste and texture. These folks do so much for the community beyond selling us delicious fish, and I will be a repeat customer.
