Would never have known about this place but my aunt and uncle have been coming here for about 40 years and think it's by far the best pizza around, so what a better way to celebrate my birthday and end of our 1000 mile roadtrip than with a lunch gathering there? We went straight for the Bud and pizza, and Chris and I went for the regular when we should have gotten a small (oh we finished it, dontcha worry). I can see how people either love it or hate it. My wife and friends have been going to the Cloverleaf for many years. We always enjoy the neighborhood type environment and of course, the pizza is... was second to nobody. That's why it was so surprising to us when last Tuesday my wife and I got a pizza which was burned pretty badly. First time in my experience with Cloverleaf that this has happened. We were celebrating our 47th anniversary and my brother was with us celebrating his 63 rd birthday. We didn't finish even half of it. Here's hoping it was an anomaly. It would be a shame if my favorite pizza place in the world was sliding away. I gave it two stars, just for this experience. The rest of my Cloverleaf experiences have been 4 or 5 star. Well, at least my brother got a tee shirt for his birthday. Update 2019 My friends and I returned to Katy Downs after several months to see if it had returned to its previous high standards. My boyfriend has been a die hard Cloverleaf fan for years. He said his parents used to take him here when he was young and he loved it ever since. I was a bit skeptical. I mean he gushed and gushed about this pizza. We live in Gig Harbor and there is a pizza place in town so I really didn't see what he need was to drive across the bridge. I mean it is just pizza right? Boy was I wrong! The pizza is fantastic, the crust? OMG so good!! The service is always great with a very friendly staff. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait, but I have waited just as long for delivery pizza that was so not worth it. We went in to watch the race one day and since the place was quiet, not that many customers, they turned up the volume so we could hear the race. We didn't even have to ask, they just did it for us. Beyond delicious. Good pizza is worth waiting for. $20 for a huge pizza isn't too much for pizza and meat of this quality. Possibly one of the best sauces that I've ever had, hands down. Honestly, after reading the reviews, it seems like a lot of the people with negative experiences are just a tad too sensitive. I understand why, I've bitched about food places in my life, both deservedly and undeservedly. But this is the clover leaf, in tacoma. These people make good, greasy food, and they're busy as hell. If you expect 4 star service at a pizza place, the world is going to be a rude awakening for you. This is the same place where people would try to fight my dad in the parking lot a decade plus ago. You're in tacoma, it's a nice establishment, they've got dope food, but you're not going to be waited on hand and foot. When a family sized pizza is the same price as a single entree at a high class restaurant, why would you ever expect them to go above and beyond? They're focused on making delicious food! read more

This place has really good pizza. The crust is crisp, and a perfect thickness... (if you like thick crust, possibly not for you) They have a great selection of beers on tap too. The only thing so far I am not a huge fan of are their wings. They aren't bad, they are just average. That being said, I plan to go there many times again. It's a place I'm starting to crave! On a personal reccomendation, we decided to try this place last night and so we took a drive (missed the exit and had to pay the friggin toll to come back across the bridge..you didn't need to know that, but I wanted to vent a bit). I read most of the reviews before heading out and the common denominator was good pizza/poor service....so we went in expecting slow service. There were two girls running the bar and table area and it was fairly busy, but the wait wasn't too bad. We had a small salad (pretty good) and a large meat pizza w/garlic. Now, the crust has received quite a few accolades here and so it is worth noting that although it is generally not a crust I particulary like, as it reminds me of the 'quick bake' type dough, it was cooked in such a manner that it worked ok with this pizza. The toppings were good, and although not as much as I like, it was still good enough to make this pizza work. I love pizza, but I am very, very particular about what I like and although it's not my favorite, it is a good pizza. If Cloverleaf were located closer to my house, this would be the best in the area. My personal favorite pizza(so far) in the PNW is Flying Pie, it is a heavier pizza, but much, much more expensive. The Cloverleaf pizza is a pretty good pie, especially for the price - so its a pretty good value. In fact, I haven't come across a better deal on a pizza in the PNW(good pizza that is). My wife liked it better than FP and claims its the best she has had here so far. I told her to quit imposing on my reviews and get her own Yelp account so she can write her own reviews. The service was good - remember there were only two gals working and they did a fairly good job at keeping up. All in all, it's a really good pizza for a fair price. I don't know if I would drive this far again, but then again, I just might! Oh, one other thing - it was fairly noisy in there, but most of it came from one overbearing, obnoxious table of dudes that had absolutely no idea they were louder than half of Seattle at an Obama rally. This is the kind of place that feels like it should be packed with little league baseball teams or maybe bowling league teams. After years of hearing about Cloverleaf and finally turning 21, I had to see for myself what all the fuss was about. And what a day to choose for your first time, Seahawks Sunday. I was just glad my friend and I found a seat. Not 1 person was wearing normal clothing, it was a sea of blue and green. This was great because the energy was up and since the Hawks won, the whole place was happy! -- Now more importantly, the pizza. I had the White Sauce Chicken pizza which was mouth watering. The crust was perfectly thin and crispy, holding up all that white and chicken flavor. I can't say that I wish I would have gone sooner, because it is 21+. So if you aren't old enough, send someone who is in to get a pizza pie and you won't be sorry! read more

I am very disappointed in the way I was treated today while trying to order a pizza for delivery . I spoke with two employees that were both very rude ! I have been ordering pizza there for 30 plus years . I didn't come up in their system . Apparently that annoyed the first employee and she handed me off to another employee . I've been a regular customer since the seventies and this place made the best pizza in town. The last few times we ordered pizza delivered it arrived soggy thru the middle of the crust. Don't know if this happens if you eat it at the tavern or if it's something about sitting waiting for delivery. I can tell you that it's so soggy and mushy that it's not enjoyable. This has to be the best pizza I have ever had. Crust is thin, crunchy, and holds up to all that you can put on it. No floppy pizza. I am a sucker for the Monster pizza which literally has everything on it, all meats and veggies. I always get it without mushrooms but add jalapenos. So delicious! The freshness of their ingredients is insane. No cheap bacon, sausage, hamburger, pepperoni, and veggies. If you haven't tried their pizza, do it now! read more

I still think they serve the best pie in town, yes, even better than that big chain place we all know about. Incredible pizza. I always order for pickup and besides taking a while and the lack of decent parking, the pizza is like sweet manna from heaven. The wait is worth it! I dined alone last night after a long day on-the-road for work...I sat at the bar and the staff ignored me for the most part. I'm not looking to be smothered by attention, but any help from the wait staff would have been nice. The restaurant/bar was not that busy for a Tuesday at 9 pm; there is no excuse for bad service. The pizza was good, i ordered the mini...if I had engaged with the server she might have suggested that the mini was more of a child size and then I would have upped my order. It took a lot of effort for me to add a tip, but I'm not that way. Normally I would just let this go...but, being ignored, never check-upon and the staff not having any eye contact with me made me feel like I wasn't welcome. read more

We've been coming to Cloverleaf for many years now. Staff is friendly. Pizza is usually very good, but tonight we found the marinara sauce to be almost nonexistent. We called the waiter over & said that someone forgot to put the marinara sauce on our pizza. We even held up a piece and had her look at it from the side because no sauce was visible from that angle. She said, "The crusts are pre-sauced. So there is no way it didn't have sauce." She pointed to a spot or two (about the size of a dime) and said, "There! That's sauce." We said it sure didn't taste like it usually does. She said she could bring us a side order of marinara sauce. We said ok. Ten minutes later the sauce came & pizza was cold. Something like this happened to our friends a few months ago. They haven't returned. We will definitely give it another try. Hopefully there will be more sauce on it next time & maybe some Italian seasoning as well. read more

Quite possibly our favorite pizza these last several years. Thin and crispy, but not so much that it'll tear the roof of your mouth apart. Everything we've had has been delicious there and the staff is always friendly and quick with refills. My only problem is I like my hot wings breaded and fried and the Cloverleafs are not breaded and are baked. That's ok though. It just leaves more room for delicious Larsen pizza slices! read more
