This was my first visit to clay pot. The chicken tikka masala had great heat. The lamb biryani was also amazing. My favorite was the garlic chili naan. I will definitely come back. If you are in the area you should stop in 2nd visit and the chicken tikka masala is the best ever. It was extra spicy and went great with the garlic chili naan. 3rd visit and the owner Bill came out and gave us a lesson in Indian cuisine. Outstanding food and service as always. This restaurant has an extremely friendly atmosphere and staff, it was by far the best service I have had in a long time. Their prices were moderate, and the food was very good, and extremely plentiful. The server made the comment at one point that "we are all family here, we don't care about the money, we enjoy doing this." It was a great dinner, I would definitely recommend it. read more

I visited Clay Pit for the first time tonight. The food and service is excellent. The buffet has a great variety of dishes. In particular the rice, lamb Curry, and garlic naan was my favorite. Also the mango juice was pungent and flavorful. I definitely would recommend this place and will be returning on my next trip to Murfreesboro. read more

This was the first place I had ever eaten Indian food. A friend suggested it to me, and I've loved it ever since. Really good food, and their naan is fantastic. Order the chili naan if you like spicy, not on the menu that I've seen but my friend told me it was available. The food can sometimes be a little salty, but it's ever so often that I've come across that problem. Cafeteria style with many choices, so if you've never had Indian food before and wanted to try some staples this is the place to go. It's kind of pricey for dinners, so I usually go there for lunch. But other than the price I have no complaints, other than I wish samosas were on the menu more often. read more

Although this place is my first experience with Indian food it has kept me coming back for more. It's pretty pricey for dinner, but well worth it. One trip thru the buffet line and you'll have more than enough. Don't let the aesthetics of the food fool you. It may resemble baby food, but the taste is far beyond anything you have ever had. Buffet is reasonably priced and they always have a nice variety of items with occasional things like chili catfish that you don't find at most indian buffets. Simple restaurant with a nice attentive staff and they always have soccer on. Always look forward to going to this place. read more

Unfortunately, I'm giving Clay Pit a low star rating due mostly to the atmosphere. We really enjoy the dinner buffet and it's a nice change of pace from the area's other offerings. However, every time we have gone, the televisions are tuned to terribly violent movies or shows. It's quite disturbing, especially for our children. There have been several times that one of us mentioned going back and we decide not to, simply because we don't want to have to eat our dinner surrounded by those televisions. It's a shame, really, because their garlic naan is fantastic, and I really miss it. read more

This place has redone the interior and is much much nicer than before. The food here is excellent. It reminds me of the Indian food I used to eat when I lived in NYC. Came here after a long time just because I dint want to drive till Franklin to eat good Indian food.. The restaurant has remodeled and these guys are charging customers extra for the looks which is not that different from before.. The cost of the food has significantly gone up but the quality and taste remain the same.. The tandoori chicken was like rubber and tasteless probably cos it was not marinated.. The shrimp pakoras was the worst.. It was stale and tasted really bad (almost made me puke) the only thing that was good was the beef curry.. The hospitality was so good before but now it's so bad.. Previously there was this older gentleman who would stop by each table and ask how the food was and would take feedbacks, but the new guy was full of attitude and so was the girl at the front desk.. Ordered online and had it delivered. Completely over priced and delivery guy took almost 1.5 hours and was so rude when he arrived! First off he WALKED into my apt when I opened the door and then wouldn't leave because he thought I wasn't tipping him. Tried to explain I paid and tipped online but don't think he understood because he kept standing w/ his hand held out glaring at me. I was so uncomfortable. Going against my best interest, I have to say this is my favorite restaurant in Murfreesboro. It's never crowded, the food is always great, and the staff are always friendly and attentive. They also have an MTSU discount on the buffet and menu items. read more

While the restaurant lacks in decor and dining room cleanliness, the food was great. They worked well with me being lactose intolerant and helped me choose my meal, which was perfect. While it was not as good as home cooking by my friend's mother (direct from India) it was good to fill the craving that I had, and I will DEFINITELY be headed back for more. I rarely complain about restaurants but I feel like people should know about this place. The food is mediocre and usually a hit or a miss, the worst part about it was the price. My husband and I went to eat here thinking we may pay around 20 dollars for two plates (and I thought I was overshooting it). With two buffets and two fountain drinks it was 30 dollars for dinner. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm all for small businesses but sadly I will not go back simply because I cannot afford to. read more

The water in this place tasted funky! We paid $31.77 for 2 lamb curry entrees and no drinks. The meat did not taste anything like lamb. We also thought it was very unusual to have a dinner buffet at this restaurant. I've never been to an Indian restaurant with a dinner buffet, nonetheless the food looked so stale we decided to opt for the entrees. We expected it would be decent since it was not brought right out. This place smelled nothing like an Indian restaurant. Next time I have a craving for Indian food but don't want to make the drive to Nashville, my best bet will be to get some of the frozen entrees available at the grocery store. Those taste more authentic! There are some good Indian restaurants in Nashville and Franklin. It's so worth the drive to go there instead. read more

The food is usually very good, although quality seems to vary by day. We go here pretty often because we love Indian food. However we were disappointed in the service recently when, after ordering 2 entrees, the server tried to charge us for an "extra" rice. Only one bowl of rice was brought to the table, so we asked for another one. We had 2 bowls of rice total. If you order 2 entrees, you should get 2 bowls of rice because rice comes with the entree. Kinda stingy! We only ended up paying for one bowl of rice. :) read more

I ordered the lunch "buffet". It isn't a buffet at all but really it's a choice of 3 dishes and rice. I made my selection and he piled it on the plate like a big pile of slop. All of the dishes ran together and made a huge, nasty mess. I asked him why he did it that way and he said those are the only plates they have and most people like their food to run together like that. HUH?! I've eaten at so many Indian restaurants and have never been served like this. I tried to eat the food but I couldn't really differentiate one dish from another. The lunch didn't come with bread or a drink for $6.99, so once you add those things it's an $11 lunch, which is too expensive in my opinion. What I could taste wasn't very good and seemed very sweet for Indian food. The facility was unorganized, kitchen seemed dirty, and the decor was awful (even for an Indian restaurant). "Hole in the wall" might have been a little optimistic for this place. I do love Indian food and was terribly disappointed. read more

First of all I'll say the service was great. The gentlemen behind the counter could not have been more helpful or attentive. I gave it a low rating for a couple of reasons. The first was RICE. They don't serve basmati rice. This is the first Indian place I've ever been to (and I've been to hundreds) that didn't serve basmati rice. The rice is one of the crowning parts and staples of Indian food. Our rice tasted like boil in the bag rice and it was horrible. The other dishes were okay. My son said the Chicken Tikka Masala had an awesome curry, we like the vegetable pakora, the gulab jamuns were very nice. We ordered chicken tikka off the menu and that was very strange. It came with a LOT of oil in the bottom of the dish and I ordered it specifically so I could have something without any oil. It also had a strange tasting masala, had a vinegar flavor to it that we didn't really care for. They do hit it out of the park with the naan. It is hands down the best naan that I've had from any restaurant in the Nashville, northern TN, southern KY area. If I lived close by I might go there for naans and the few things we did enjoy but since we live a good distance away I doubt we will be back again. read more
