So, I shouldn't have been surprised to get some excellent Indian food in Rutherford County. What made me take extra notice was that the quality didn't dip at all from the restaurant to eating it in my friends' home. The beginning of summer had lured me southeast of town to hang out with some dear friends. Being that the temps had already gotten well above comfortable, we decided to hang out at home with a good meal. They're both vegetarians but promised me that this spot had the real deal flavor/season combo. I looked over the menu, opted for a variant of my go-to and waited for my tastebuds to be dazzled. My friend returned from picking up the food and I smelled it as soon as he walked through the door. 'Gimmegimmegimme,' was all I could think and say. I went with the namesake Ugadi Chicken Curry and when I tell you it woke me up in all respects, I'm not giving it enough credit. This fiery (in color and flavor) curry was andhra-forward and absolutely delicious. The curry wasn't just a vehicle for the (juicy, nicely-sized and generous-amounted) chicken. It was a star in and of itself. I topped the fragrant basmati rice with the meat/sauce and every bite was a sheer delight. Truly. It's not a given that restaurant food stands up to travel and home plating but Ugadi did and does. I'm glad I was feeling lucky because I paired the food with a mango lassi. I know it's a bit basic but mango is in the poison ivy family so I mess with it very rarely. I didn't break out and enjoyed my cool treat. I'll have to experience the goodness in-house next time... but being able to collapse to the couch from the table was a plus I didn't see coming.

It was a group of 3 of us. 2 got the buffet, I personally ordered the Lamb Rogan Josh. It was lacking in salt and surprisingly my meal was lacking in seasoning. I know. I know. Crazy right!? Indian food is never under-seasoned, but here we are. It honestly just tasted like spicy yogurt. Heat. Pepper. Not really the same as seasoned. The heat level , but the seasoned level ehhh. I took it to go and it got better the next day with some salt and covered in mint and tamarind sauce. Now, the meat samosas on the other hand, they were good. They needed a little salt, but they tasted pretty good. I mean I honestly have no complaints with them. They were nice and big. Crunchy. Seasoned pretty well. Overall 8/10 appetizer. No complaints from me on it. The other two enjoyed the biryani and bhatura ( soft fried fluffy bread) they had at the buffet. Those were the two things that stood out to them most. The restaurant is fairly dark and has a chill vibe where you just pick your own seats, which I really didn't have a problem with. My one complaint was the rips in some of the seats. It was a bit uncomfortable to sit on, but nothing that really destroyed your visit. It was more just like a "aww, man, that's annoying..." and then move on type of thing. Every once in a while I'd look down, see the big piece of tape and then have to reshift myself, but other than that, no big deal. Maybe I'll give them another try in the future because it was off being it was random in the middle of a week day.
