I arrived on a nice sunny Saturday afternoon. High Scores Arcade is located in a nice area off Alvarado street in downtown Monterey. Parking is free and accessible along the streets and the nearby parking lots. The arcade games collection are classic, vintage, and from the 80's-90's. The space is on the smaller side but has just enough video games to look reputable. The decor is vibrant, bright, and playful. In the front is the counter where you purchase your admission, snacks, and alcohol/non alcoholic drinks. The admission is fairly priced. 1 hour of unlimited play is $10.00. All day unlimited play is $22.00. Overall we enjoyed our experience at High Scores Arcade. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The vibe was nostalgic and bustling. It was nice to introduce the games I use to play back in the day and play along side with my son. We hope to be back when we are in the area.

I am extremely disappointed with our experience at this Chuck E. Cheese, especially because my…read moreyoung daughter is currently being evaluated in the emergency room after falling from the carousel and hitting her head. We paid for a ride, my son joined, and another family's child also joined. Both my mother, the children's grandmother, and I were standing nearby within arm's reach and actively supervising both of my children. Once the carousel started moving, about halfway through the ride my daughter somehow lost her grip, was thrown/fell off the side, and struck her head on the ground. I also want to note that this carousel noticeably jerks when it starts and stops, which is something I believe should be reviewed as part of this incident. I immediately asked the manager for an incident report. What made an already frightening situation significantly worse was the behavior of one employee, a young woman with blue hair and glasses. From the moment we entered, her interactions with us felt unnecessarily confrontational. When she saw my mother helping put Chuck E. Cheese trampoline socks on my daughter, she made a point of telling us that having the socks did not mean we could use the trampoline area without paying again. We already knew that rule and had never attempted to put my daughter in the trampoline area. She is very young and simply wears the socks while playing. Later, my son, who is nonverbal and has significant special needs, was holding one of the swinging gates near the trampoline area, as many young children do. The same employee pushed the gate open while he was still holding onto it. I am especially careful about physical interactions involving my son because he cannot verbally explain what happened to him. The final interaction was completely unacceptable. After my daughter fell from the carousel and hit her head, while I was scared and asking for an incident report, this employee commented, "That's why you should be watching your kid at all times." That statement was not only incredibly insensitive, it was also inaccurate. My mother and I were both right there, within arm's reach, supervising both children when the accident happened. I reported the entire interaction to the manager before leaving for the emergency room. I am asking Chuck E. Cheese management or corporate to contact me directly regarding both the carousel incident and this employee's conduct. I would also like the carousel itself reviewed, including the way it jerks during starts and stops, and I am requesting that any available surveillance footage of the ride, the surrounding area, and the employee interactions be preserved and reviewed. I expect appropriate follow-up, corrective action, and additional training regarding how employees interact with young children, children with disabilities, and parents during an injury or emergency. My priority right now is my daughter's health, but this entire incident needs to be addressed.
