My personal favorite was the helicopter car. I was also very impressed with the replica of the Wright brothers first flight plane and wind tunnel. I have visited the Wright brothers museum in Kill Devil Hills, NC and this replica is on par with the display at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. There was also a sign that there is additional parking behind the museum. After checking in there was a craft/art activity with stickers and tempera paint sticks. Low mess :). Adjacent was a play area with colored scarves, a pretend campfire, felt board for the children to explore, and books. Before entering the museum area Anna gave an introductory talk describing what to expect. She made it interactive which was very nice. They also did a song to get their wiggles out. She then guided the group through the museum to the carpeted area with cushions for the kiddos. Ana talked about and asked questions about the art on the walls. She read Under the Same Sky to the children and made this an interactive experience also. It was just the right length of time, thirty minutes. This was just right for our 18 month old grandson.

The volunteers welcomed the kids and encouraged them to take part in the bean bag toss, throwing horseshoes, the sack races, pumping water the old fashioned way, riding tractors, milking fake cows, going for a real hay ride and more. The children not only enjoyed every minute and couldn't stop talking about it on the way home. It was a nice reminder of how simple times use to be and how we don't need fancy thing-a-ma-jiggers for entertainment. Sometimes simplicity can be the most fun. If you have little ones, this is a must do. I think that they called the event Second Saturday. Check it out and add it to your "must do" list. Just make sure to pack a little cash to make a donation to keep this exhibit going.

Well today was the day, and we had docents Ric, Carol and Carol (yes two Carols) who gave us a great tour with lots of historical insight into the location and the history of Morgan Hill. If you are a history buff like me, it is a great place to visit. It is free and takes less than an hour to go through. I may be doing it again soon. We also learned you can rent out the Hiram Morgan Hill House for events. Learned a ton from three VERY nice and knowledgeable docents and really enjoyed stopping in.

One day you can be hacking through underbrush to find a spooky old family graveyard from the 18th century, while another may be spent dealing with disinterested or bilious government clerks who want nothing more than for you to go away and leave them alone. My half-dozen visits to the San Benito County Historical Society over the past year rank as some of my most pleasurable research trips. The museum itself, which occupies a rambling old Prairie-style home on 5th street in Hollister, is a nice collection of county history and artifacts. But the research room annex, which is only opened limited hours (usually the 2nd Monday of each month), is a treasure trove of county history, and a fascinating place to lose yourself for hours on end. The museum and research room are strictly staffed by volunteers, and most are well-versed in county history, with extensive knowledge of the early settlers and culture of the area. They are uniformly friendly, and generous with their time in helping visitors in their research. They have detailed records of property transactions, incarcerations, births, marriages, death, insanity committals -- all the things that make families so interesting! Those interested in the museum will have to plan around limited hours, as it is only open on Saturdays from 1-3. With the research room being even more limited in availability, I see that as worth docking one star from an otherwise 5-star affair. It's a great place for learning about this relatively small but interesting county, and a terrific resource for those with roots in the area.

Have not been here for anything else but WW meeting so I can't say much as to what it's like for functions. I believe they rent it out for weddings as well. The ground is beautifully landscaped and they have done some improvements throughout the years. They have a rose garden which is beautiful when it blooms.
