Heading south from Sheboygan with my family I had a craving for ice cream, so I pulled up the options around Port Washington. The "best" local place that was open in January was The Chocolate Chisel. My family and I stopped and each got a cone. I also got three truffles. The truffles I bought were chai tea milk, experimint milk (ganache with peppermint extract), and peppermint hot chocolate. The chai tea and experimint milk truffles both tasted like they should based on their descriptions, but I wouldn't wantto buy either again. The peppermint hot chocolate had some crushed peppermint on top, but other than the chocolate being in the shape of a mug, nothing about it reminded me of hot chocolate. Ultimately I don't think any of them were worth the price. The ice cream was lackluster. Both of my kids got cookies and cream in a cake cone and thought it was skimpy on the cookies part. My wife and I sprung for waffle cones with ours and were both disappointed in the excessive cone to ice cream ratio that heavily favored the cone. She got plain chocolate and it was fine. I, however, got banana-rama and ended up throwing it out because it tasted more like butter pecan than anything banana related. I even went back inside and verified with the employee that it wasn't mislabeled in the case. read more

Amazing is all I can say!! On a trip to Port Washington to see my parents, we stopped at The Chocolate Chisel for some ice cream. My dad loves this place, so I'm sure the staff knows him. The girls working on the Saturday evening we stopped in were super nice! All of us got ice cream and it was great! The place is super cute and aside from the ice cream, they have a bunch of different homemade chocolates. Lots of places close early in the surrounding areas so we were glad to see that chocolate chisel was open a little later so we could get a treat yesterday! I tried a sample of the lavender honey ice cream, the honey flavor was really strong but not bad! I ended up getting a scoop of peanut butter m&m ice cream and it was so delicious. We were staying down the street on our way up to Door County. We got into Port Washington a little early to have dinner and walk around town. We just happened upon this place not 5 minutes down the street. So after dinner we walked over, it is a much more sophisticated place than it looks. They have a lot of homemade chocolates in unique flavors plus ice cream! So we bought some chocolate and some ice cream. I had some superb Pistachio Ginger, and not that neon green stuff either. First let's talk the people: I stopped in less than 5 minutes to close. All of them We're hopping around happily doing there jobs. They welcomed me and offered their help. It was refreshing. In a way I expected to be greeted with haste, being that they were set to be closing up. Nope, pure patience and customer service. What an amazing staff you have! Now to the chocolate: Ummmmm, wow! The Elvis Presley is the perfect combination of peanut butter and banana. The bourbon bonbon has flavor that will take you to the moon. Not to mention, their delicate decor and design is a show stopper. They deserve to be proudly displayed on a plate or tray of sorts. I took chocolate home to California and it is a hit! Cute sweet shoppe in a cute little town (seriously, how can a coal plant be cute?). They have bonbons, ice cream & sorbet, and chocolates. The sorbets were vegan, and most of the dark chocolate bars and stuff were explicitly labeled as vegan, which made the kids happy. The kiddy scoops are adorable and teeny, but the 6yo was happy, and I got one too and it was good for both os us. The pre-tween wanted more though, unsurprisingly. In these COVID times, they only allow 4 people inside at a time. Masks required, obvi. They had a bunch of chairs and cows to sit on outside, and there are benches across the street too. Staff was super friendly and helpful. And patient. Free street parking is a plus, too. Delicious chocolates and ice cream! They have a large selection of truffles and chocolate bark. It's honestly all super delicious - I have never tried anything I did not like. I recently tried the ice cream. We had a scoop of salted caramel and blueberry cheesecake. They were both so good! The blueberry cheesecake tasted just like it sounds and the salted caramel was "melt in your mouth" good. You can also ask for a sample of the various ice cream flavors. They are vegan and gluten-free friendly, and the staff are knowledge about food allergies. They offer a punch card as well, you get one punch per $5 spent. Went today for the first time. We happen to stop in the area! Adorable little place. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. My son has celiac so we typically only get ice cream in cups. Awesome ice cream made locally! Great staff, very helpful and polite. We went here three days in a row we loved it so much! If you are in Port Washington you need to do yourself a favor and stop by, have a few truffles and some ice cream. I can highly recommend the PB&J, lavender honey, pistachio, salted Carmel and raspberry ice creams. We didn't try too many truffles but the Elvis dark or light, mango fire dark and the cherry bomb are great. As a side note the PB&J doesn't make the best milkshake as the peanut better won't blend but the lavender honey and salted Carmel is amazing as a shake! read more

Riding Bikes on the interurban trail... we'd burned enough calories.. it was time to enjoy some extra treats! A small shop. The chocolate almost looks too good to eat.. bordering on works of art!. One girl working the counter that day, she was pretty busy! When our turn came along we ordered a couple of ice cream cones (.50 extra got me a waffle cone dipped in chocolate) and an assortment of turtles and other fresh chocolates to go (yes, they did survive being strapped onto my bike) My ice cream (yes, I lack control.. a double cone.. sea salt caramel and chocolate peanut butter cup) was delicious.. This place is a gem hidden away in quaint Port Washington, Wisconsin on Lake Michigan. I have never seen such beautiful chocolate. Each piece looked like a piece of art. Shaped by an artist and presented polished and glazed. They have amazing flavored Truffles like: Tongo Vanilla made with Polynesian Vanilla. Vodka Lemon, Caramel Apple, Sweet Potato and Cinnamon Habanero. They have the creamiest ice cream I have ever had. I tried the Espresso Crunch on a really fresh waffle cone. So far, so good!! Went here for the first time and I'm really impressed! It's a small place but size really doesn't matter here. We ordered their ice cream on this trip- their salted caramel, birthday cake and classic vanilla bean- and they were divine! We also got to sample some of their other flavors (lavender coconut? yes, please!) and they were just as delicious. The texture is super creamy, velvety, silky, and packed with flavor. You want salted caramel? You get the kick in the back of your throat from the salt then the sweetness of the caramel to soothe your soul. The birthday cake tasted like a dream full of rainbows and unicorns. The vanilla bean was a wink from your crush... seriously, ya'll. The girl at the counter was extremely helpful and polite, as well as super warm and welcoming. Made us feel like we had been long-time friends. I did take notice of the variety of chocolates and sweets they offer, which were super pretty and displayed neatlbut we didn't purchase any on this trip. I used to be a fan. This was 5 stars. I simply don't agree with the new policy of only 1 flavor per scoop. So it js now 3 stars. It used to be that for the 1 big scoop you can have two flavors. I don't want two big scoops because the portion js too much. Then they offer mini scoops and I would be open to that only they are super mini and not worth the money. This place will always be successful yet it is doubtful I will return after being a fan for many years. By the way the chocolate is yummy yet pricey. I like the dark chocolate orange. It's a little shop with a lot of selection. The cases of truffles will keep your eyes occupied for quite a while. Then your taste buds will love your choices regardless of what they are. We went on a Friday around 5 p.m. on a 90 degree day. The line forms outside because of covid rules. Waited 25 minutes!! and then left. There was only one young man working and he was responsible for taking orders, cashiering, and then scooping the ice cream. To say he was overwhelmed would be an understatement. More help is needed. If you're in the area and have a sweet tooth, this is a must-stop. It's a cute, tiny shop dedicated to delicious ice cream and various kinds of chocolate. I can only speak to the ice cream, but their chocolates looked amazing (and pretty!). They had at least 12 different flavors and you can get it in a dish, standard cone, waffle cone, and both chocolate dipped. The ice cream was fantastic - I went with strawberry and vanilla. But all their other flavors looked promising. My only complaint was the wait. However, it was a hot summer night - so what else should I expect. They only had 3 people working and the line was literally out the door.
