Please be aware if you are a larger party you will not be put at the same table even though they can easily move them they refuse for certain people and make accommodation for others. We ckd in as a larger party of 13 and not once were we told that we were going to be separated. We waited over and hour to eat just to find out we wouldn't be together . When we were seated we realized we could easily remedy the problem just scoot our two tables together which wouldn't have been in ANYONES WAY and quick fix. The waitress comes up and is very quick and snappy to say we didn't ask and goes to get her manager. They manage (Maddie) was completely off her rocker and rude from the beginning and told us to "put them back!" I told her she could. She proceeded to snatch the table in front of me and move it while knocking things over. I proceeded to ask her why is it we can't scoot our tables together. She says "that's our policy!" I said well if it's a policy we literally just watched a group of people get up from another table that was extremely close to ours, which I took a picture of where they had two separate tables put together to accommodate the party. She continued to be rudely about it. I was like okay whatever! Everyone ordered their food and me and my little boy just waited bc I personally wasn't going to be charged an automatic gratuity due to the party size when 9 out of 13 were at another table, but yet they were going to treat it as such. The manager needs some serious people skills and Chimes needs to learn how to stop being lazy and help better accommodate their customers especially when it isn't to much to ask or inconveniencing anyone. read more

This is a very popular Northshore spot especially on the weekends. The only reason I give four instead of five stars is the obnoxious wait time. They do not take reservations so if it is the weekend be prepared to wait an hour at a minimum. The restaurant is diverse. It is great for family dinner, watching the game, Sunday brunch, and late night drinks. When the weather is nice ask to sit outside which has views of the Bogue Falaya river. Take a walk on the deck and pet the resident goats. Yes you read that right. The bar features a very good tap beer selection. My favorite signature cocktail is the upside down pineapple cake martini. The food menu is large and focuses on seafood for the most part. I have never had anything I disliked. Try the seafood platter or the shrimp and grits. read more

I ordered the roast beef po'boy with a bbq shrimp. This is a big place with lots of seating in and out. We placed our order and waited about 20-25 minutes before our food arrived. The food was good. bbq shrimp was good but not sure it was a value. The roast beef po'boy was also good but felt there could of been more beef. Staff was friendly, the place was clean. This was my third visit to The Chimes and my first to sit at the bar. It was a busy Saturday evening and the bartenders were very busy. I ordered a dozen raw oysters and some buffalo wings. The oysters from the beginning should have been a red flag. They were not served on ice and therefore not cold enough. They also had an odor to them, but they looked ok. I tried a few and ultimately sent them back. The fishy smell was too much. They removed them from my bill. The buffalo wings were a bit dry and not very good. We ended up leaving for a less noisy/crowded place. Around two AM I woke up with a horrible stomach ache, and then proceeded to get very sick. I've not had any one particularly good experience here, so I don't think I'll be back. read more

I was looking for a place with oysters and a nice view. I went on a Thursday evening and the place was busy, so we didn't get to sit outside like we wanted. The hostess didn't even ask if we wanted to wait for a table outside. The service was horrible! It took 30 minutes to get our drinks. The oysters were warm and not on ice, which I thought was odd and it made them taste gross! My fiancé has a gluten allergy and she really couldn't eat anything, so she just ate oysters and a side of grits. I got the shrimp and grits and that was very okay. This is literally the worst restaurant in Covington every single time which it hasn't been very many I've came here there's always been a problem. I ordered food to go at 7:20. It was supposed to be ready for 7:48. and it's 755 somebody wants to come out and tell me that the kitchen never got my order that I placed online there must've been a computer problem so they're getting it together now. I am not sure how the food is. 2 of us waited for exactly one hour and then left. We watched the wait staff visiting with each other and laughing. After 15 mins the waitress finally came over and took our order. No food after 1/2 hour and the manager promised it was almost done. Not true 15 minutes later still no food. People all around us were complaining. We left no food no waitress to ask what was up. Restaurant owners should periodically place moles in to eat so that they can know what is going on. Really great food and a great atmosphere. It does get crowded fairly quickly but it doesn't take too long to get seated. Food is a little slow when they're extremely busy as expected. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are seating options in the dining area, the bar, and also outside on the patio. Our waitress recommended the Catfish Purdue which is catfish topped with Crawfish Étouffée, and it tasted amazing. I would definitely get it again. read more

Checked in 6:28 and did not get seated until 8:45.During this time, there was no attempt to seat us because the 3 girls at the desk were waiting for a large table to get up and the large table never did leave, in fact they stood around the table. We watched many tables be seated before us. I was told they were not seating upstairs because they were short staffed. I went up at least 7 times inquiring about the delay and these 3 at the desk were not concerned in the least that we were waiting for so long. We we're very patient and we got drinks at the bar. Easily reachable via 190 East, you can miss it because it is set back from the main thoroughfare. Ir has a driveway style entrance to the parking lot. Service was just right with a very pleasant waitress who was attentive but gave us space and really genuinely seemed to care about us having a good time. Prices are very reasonable. I had a pretty good meal and here and the view can't be beat. I started off with some raw oysters and crawfish tamales. The crawfish were large and fresh. They could have had a little less masa but the salsa verde alongside was yum. For my main course I had the special, which was fried catfish served over shrimp etouffe.The shrimp were small but the flavor of the dish was solid. The fried catfish was...fried catfish. (The batter could have been lighter but it was good). I loved my server, Carolina. She was friendly and pushed the specials while also seeming genuine. As I dined, I watched the property's goats trim the grass and cats lounge alongside the banks of the Bogue Falaya. The restaurant has a large outdoor seating area which extends via a series of decks and stairs to the riverbank. It was March but kind of hot and I already wanted to jump in. Absolutely love their fettuccine Alfredo pasta and their bow tie fried pasta with spinach and artichoke dip. Overall, the service is good. I do wish they obeyed covid protocols a little bit better. One of the bartenders wasn't wearing a mask when we ordered our drinks and I didn't see her with one the whole night. One time I did order their " Imperial mimosa" which was horrible. It was literally just orange juice with a straw in it. It would be good if they just removed this from their menu or got a bigger champagne/wine glass and put it in that to make it look better and classier. When I told the waiter about the drink and asked for a replacement, he said he couldn't replace it, which was extremely disappointing. Great meal after our visit to the Abita Brewery, and man, what a great time. The restaurant was jumping on a Friday with the late lunch, early HH crowd in there full force but we were seated quickly and the service was fantastic and prompt throughout. They have an impressive beer list, with lots of local options but a great selection from everywhere. I started with the grilled alligator appetizer, which was flavorful and really yummy - my four year old daughter loved it the most, and would have had another serving. I followed the recommendation of our lovely server and had the roast beef po' boy, fully dressed. It was delicious - a monster sandwich prepared perfectly. I wish we had time to stay for dessert as well. Fun place, great staff, awesome food and beers. I loved the walk in the back through the swamp and the goats as well - beautiful locale to take pictures and enjoy some of the natural beauty and majesty of the region. I experience many issues ranging from a bloody hamburgers to slow as molasses service. I swore I would never be back. We did give them another chance and it really seems like they got their act together. The food has been great and the service has been stellar. It's definitely a top ten restaurant for this areas. The male members of the wait staff were aggressive, rude and a bit psychotic. The restaurant was dirty and the food was terrible. This review is based on the restaurants hours. The Chimes in Covington used to be part of what made Covington special. It was the only bar / restaurant open late (like 1-2am) where you could get good beer and decent food. It was so cool to put the kids to bed, text a friend at 10 or 11pm and say "let's go grab a beer" knowing you might also be ordering some chargrilled oysters! The place late at night was always hoppin too. Now Chimes is just an ordinary, uninteresting place to eat. They close on average at 10pm. This is beyond lame for this place! Today is July 4th. Tomorrow is July 5th and NO ONE IS WORKING TOMORROW. Covid has been over for Louisiana since April and they're still working lame Covid hours. Really frustrating because, again, there are certain things about a town that make it special. Breakfast at Mattina Bella, buying tequila at the gas station, the farmers market at the trailhead, and late nights at Chimes are some of those things for Covington. Hope Chimes comes back soon because they town isn't as cool without a late night Chimes. read more

Arrived an hour before sunset and dined on the back deck. It was beautiful ambiance and hear the frogs and crickets at night. The heaters made it nice & comfortable while allowing us to enjoy being semi-outdoors. Our server was friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu and how everything was prepared--the BEST SERVICE I have received in LA!! He brought samples of gumbo, etouffe, and a chargrilled oyster so I could taste how The Chimes prepares those hallmark dishes of LA cuisine. He went above and beyond and their food is phenomenal! Their chargrilled oyster arrived fresh - hot & still bubbling - and has wonderful evolving flavors. Cooked perfectly so it's still soft and juicy, you can actually still taste its briny freshness along with the subtle seasoning added by the chef. Our server explained that The Chimes uses the alligator's tender tail meat rather than the tough, inferior-quality belly meat and blackened rather than fried is the way to go. This was my first time eating alligator and he was absolutely correct - it was delicious and their dipping sauce is fantastic! Notable mention goes to their caramel pecan bread pudding - this is the BEST bread pudding I have ever tasted and I'm not typically fond of bread pudding as a dessert. Can't understand why average review of 3-1/2*, this place is fabulous... ambience is wonderful. We ate outside on the wrap around porch, up high, and watched the ripping river/ bayou pass by. Lush setting. Lots of ceiling fans, so no bugs.... Service could not have been better, very attentive. We ordered Boudin balls, fabulous cripsy huge onion rings - too many to count, & shrimp and grits. We loved it. Beer was cold and so good, lighter as well as the dark coffee flavored one.
