Had the pear honey parm flavor and honestly... you'd think it wouldn't work, but it actually does. Like it sounds a little wild at first, but it comes together really well. A Sweet Ending to a Long Day After a long day at work and visiting my dad to prepare his medication, I remembered I had promised one of my former cheerleaders (now a Towson student!) a birthday dinner. We frequent The Charmery a lot because of how close it is to our house. My family appreciates that they can always depend on the Charmery to have their flavor of choice (Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry). The waffle cones are fresh, the rotating flavors are adventurous, samples are available and you can pick up pints to go. They also have a rewards program you can join and prices are comparable to other small batch ice cream places I've visited. This location of the Charmery has tons of seating (both inside and outside) and at least one piece of pretty cool artwork hanging on the wall (I love the cat crawling over the Charmery). There is a lot to like at The Charmery in Towson. So why only three stars? Mainly because of their vegan offerings. While their vegan ice cream is really good, I find that it lacks the inventiveness of their normal flavors. They also have so few options. There is usually a plain chocolate version (or chocolate chip or cookies and cream) and a fruity sorbet. What about the offerings for those of us who aren't really into chocolate? What about fruity ice cream (not just sorbet)? Can I get a lemon peppermint stick done vegan? Can I get more than two or three choices?About every fourth visit I find a vegan flavor that I am interested in experiencing. The rest of the time I pass. If you are into inventive (or even not inventive) handcrafted ice cream, The Charmery has your back. If you want good vegan ice cream in typical flavors, the Charmery can do that too. But if you want vegan options and unique vegan flavors, there are better places to check out in and around Baltimore. read more

Yes, good ice cream. Charming, even! Went here a few weeks ago on a weeknight because I really wanted some Maryland Mud (because it's really good). There was nobody inside other than a single employee, so that was safe. She got my order prepared pretty quickly, and ordering and paying was easy (other than looking at the menu through my foggy glasses, thanks to my mask and the temp). Under five minutes in and out. Definitely the best ice cream in Baltimore, but doesn't quite reach the level of Salt and Straw on the west coast or Jenis (originally from Ohio and now in DC as well). The Charmery's best flavors are great (grab the Speculos when it's available, the ice cream sando as well) but many are more good than great (the salty caramel for example is fine but not amazing). The homemade waffle cones let you know you're getting close to the shop as you can smell the deliciousness from down the block. And they do a nice job of giving you a chance to collect stamps and then the kiddos can spin the wheel and get a free treat. The toppings are a bit of a disappointment and seem almost like an after thought but great ice cream shouldn't really need toppings after all. The staff are great, cheerful, helpful and patient and that's a big plus. We'll be back for some Speculos and Ice Cream Sando soon. read more

Went in this evening (6/10/2024) to Celebrate My daughter's baseball season ending with my family. As we were deciding the staff seemed annoyed that we were taking a minute . FYI no one else was in line. I asked a few questions about sizing and add-ons and the staff member helping me rolled his eyes. We proceeded to pay quickly just because of the service we received. Coming from Severn, the Charmery is quite a hike for us..but with their creative, special flavors we are more than willing to make the drive. We typically frequent the Hampden location, however we ended up at the York location when we discovered Hampden couldn't serve the majority of their flavors as they were 'too hard' to scoop. Luckily, the locations weren't too far away from each other Both locations are quite beautiful; they each have easy street parking nearby, fun creative outside & inside designs, and friendly staff ready to help. The ice cream flavors are so unique and delicious! Their Old Bay Caramel is a super yummy go-to; it is a flavor very craveable, though as they weekly put out new specialty flavors, I rarely get the same ice cream flavor twice...gotta try them all! Their Zunga Zeng (toasted coconut, plantain, rum infused ice cream special) was by far one of the best flavors of ice cream I've ever tasted. They do not skimp on toppings infused within, and when they list a flavor it really does stand out with a bold profile. They know how to experiment & how to please the taste buds. read more

The Charmery has opened a second location on York Road in Towson. The space is larger than the Hampden space and there's ample seating inside. There is outdoor seating as well. Service was quick for a Saturday afternoon, which was nice. I ordered a cup of deep chocolate and a baby scoop of their seasonal strawberry. The chocolate was ok. The strawberry was super tasty. Next time I'd pass on the chocolate. I was also able to taste the vanilla from a separate order. I'd also opt for a flavor over vanilla as well. Their waffle cones are stellar, so I'd highly recommend over a cup. The space was clean and bright. Cup cherry wallpaper added some flair throughout the interior. Pricing is a bit higher. But the baby scoop add on is $1.00, so it's worth ordering up with a baby scoop if you're craving two flavors, rather than a large double scoop. read more

This place is soooo cute! I checked it out with my friend and the first thing I noticed is the smell of ice cream and cones, so freakingg good! All of the girls are very nice and friendly, they can give you little ice cream sample if you don't know what flavor to get. I got the Saturday Morning something and it was good. I would definitely come back for more. Also, if you worry about parking space, there are parallel parking lots right in front of the store. If those are filled, there are more to the side, you just have to walk a little. Parking is free after a certain hour. When I use to live in the city this was my go to place for ice cream. It was semi-close to the house and always had interesting flavors. We started coming here when one of our friends moved to the Remington area and raved about their ice creams. One of our go to flavors is Maryland Mud but we typically come with an open mind and end up tasting some of the "for here now" flavors to decide if Maryland Mud is on the ice cream spotlight vs off for that day. They do let you taste all their ice creams if you cannot decide and they do also have some unique flavors - lemonstick is a favorite. They also have things like Saturday day morning Cartoons as a flavor (not my favorite). The boy frequently will get a mini sundae and boy has he been spoiled by their homemade fudge sauce to the point he rarely will get sundaes anywhere else. We have since moved away from Baltimore City, but they now have multiple locations that are slightly more convenient for us (there is now one at Merriweather, and near Towson). read more

Well that wasn't a great night at The Charmery. The line was super long and not moving. It was taking too long at the register to ring people up, which meant my ice cream had to be eaten standing in line and was basically melted by the time I sat down. I find that some of their ice cream isn't as hard frozen and melts super fast. There was also an order of 8-12 hand packed pints that brought the line to a halt. Pints should be prepacked or scooped in the back on nights was the line is 50 plus people long. The real kicker is our group found hair in their ice cream sando and 3 hairs imbedded in the waffle cone. I could forgive a random hair in one flavor. But to also be in the waffle batter is a huge issue. I hope that the flavor and the waffle batter were thrown out. This is not the quality or experience I expect at The Charmery. read more

I had been to the original location many times, and this one was very similar albeit a larger seating area. There was a decent line but servicing went fairly quickly, especially given almost everyone in line asked for a sample before placing his/her order. The pricing is high for the potion size but to be excepted for unique and small batch flavors. Defiantly some odd balls in there like Quest Frito, and besides vanilla none of your "traditional" flavors--which I love about the Charmery (you can get basic ice cream at any Grocery store). Only downside is the space seems rather mundane and I had expected them to have done more with this enormous spot. They have a lot of flavors from standard ones like vanilla and chocolate to more unusual ones like ice cream sandwich which is what I had. I enjoyed it and the texture of the chocolate sandwich part was spot on. This place is on the more expensive side but it's worth it. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is it was just a slight bit too much of a sweet overload. Hands down the best ice cream shop in Maryland. Have I been to all ice cream shops in Maryland? Nope. But do I actually need to to make this declaration? Also nope. My favorite flavors are ice cream sando and Speculos. But the magic of Chamery is that the flavors change weekly and you're bound to find your favorite with just one test bite (yep, they do have those and it's so helpful). They offer non-dairy and vegan ice cream flavors that also change weekly. They can do milkshakes or sundaes or sell you ice cream by the pint. And if you get enough purchases on your stamp card, you get to spin the wheel for a free treat.In the colder months, definitely try their decadent hot chocolate with a in-store made marshmallow.
