I sampled the key lime ice cream, which had graham cracker crumbles! OMG!!! Delish! Then I was given a sample of the peanut butter cup! It was delightful! We go out to eat and also get dessert multiple times a week. With that in mind. we have gone to this Jupiter for years and even went to get Taharka ice cream (which Jupiter serves) back when it was originally scooped in just one self-branded shop on Preston Street in Mt Vernon. But lately Jupiter hasn't done a good job here with portion control. Went here last night with my family after we went out to dinner and got the tiniest single scoop. My wife's kiddie scope was considerably larger than what I got. My daughter's single scoop was larger than mine but less than my wife's kiddie. And the couple before us were literally bragging about how much ice cream they got. The woman in the couple held up her cone and yelled, "Score!" And I always tip well as a matter of course. I'm sure I tipped more than that couple. There was a girl and boy scooping. The girl was giving huge scoops and the boy was giving virtually nothing. The girl told the couple ahead of us, "I'm very heavy with my scoops." Clearly the boy had a different view of serving ice cream. I literally went to Baskin Robbins in Timonium and got a shake right afterwards because what I got here was so pitiful. I'm not coming here again for a while. There are plenty of other places nearby now to get good ice cream, and I feel like instead of bringing ice cream bliss this place ripped me off. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was incredibly disappointing. I placed an order through DoorDash, only for it to be canceled almost immediately. Since the order was processed on my card, I'll now have to wait 5-7 business days for the funds to be released, which is frustrating in itself. What made the situation much worse was the customer service. I called the store simply to ask what happened, but before I could even finish my question, the employee interrupted me, said, "We're busy right now," and hung up on me. When I called back to understand why I had been hung up on, I was passed from person to person without anyone taking responsibility. The only explanation I received was, "We're busy and prioritize our in-person customers. Anything else?" I completely understand that restaurants get busy, and I have no issue with a delayed order or even an occasional cancellation if necessary. However, being treated dismissively, interrupted, and hung up on for asking a simple question is unacceptable. Being busy is not an excuse for disrespectful customer service. If your store is unable to fulfill DoorDash orders during busy periods, that's understandable--but don't accept them only to cancel them immediately, leaving customers waiting days for their money to become available again. Such a wonderful after dinner treat spot! Jupiter's resides in a charming little building with a wraparound porch (full of tables and chairs), with one in door and one out door. My friend and I popped in and were a little overwhelmed by the options. A nice employee there walked us through some options, including ice cream flavors and cone selections. What a sh!t show... when we walked in the place smelled like human excrement. It was literally so bad that a couple of the people in our party had to wait outside while the order was made. The bathroom is right next to the ice cream counter and either the plumbing needs to be fixed or the rude guy working today blew the place up right before we walked in and chose not to use the exhaust fan. One of the girls in our party got strawberry ice cream that was so sour she couldn't eat it. I love Jupiter's and love their ice cream. However, the treatment by one person on the staff renders my returning there in question. The staff person was rude, condescending, and basically talked down to me the entire time I was there. She questioned my order in fact as if I had never been to Jupiter's when I've made the order (two flavors in one pint) many times before. I generally give a generous tip to the staff, but there was no way I was going to reward this person for mean-spiritedness in her speaking and way of being. Since she was Caucasian and I am a person of color, this kind of service always brings forth the question of race. I hope not, but am deeply sorry to have had this experience today when I was there to get ice cream as part of a celebration today. 'Taharka Brothers' ice cream is the absolute best! This is my favorite place to come to when I feel like treating myself. I never cared for ice cream until I had some of the famous 'Honey Graham' ice cream! Their portion sizes are very generous, the staff are friendly, & the ice cream is so creamy & flavorful. The prices are also relatively low for such quality ice cream. I love their 'Honey Graham', 'Jazzman's Blues', and 'Strawberry'. They don't taste artificial at all, which is usually a rarity nowadays with ice cream. They also offer sundaes, and the options to buy by the pint & quart. I highly recommend sampling anything that remotely sounds interesting to you. This place is run terribly. The lady who I think is the owner that runs the place never smiles at you and all the young people who work there seem to not care about being nice. We have gone there around 20 times and only a couple of times have the people been nice. Also, there is always the smell of sewage when we go. It never fails. Not exactly what you want to be smelling when eating ice cream. The floor is sticky and disgusting, the line is awkward to wait in, there is no room to sit inside. The ice cream is pretty good, which is why they get the extra star, but it is too expensive for kids portions. Once they get two toppings, it's like 6 bucks. And if you don't tip, get ready for the eye rolls. We live blocks from it and will never return. read more
