This place is fantastic! Upon entry, I knew this place was going to be awesome. On a Saturday night, this place looks like it can get a little busy, especially after happy hour, but with enough patience and politeness, one can snag up a table within an hour. Service here is amazing, and the food selection was perfect; not too many choices but you know they pair well with the wine and beer selection that The Cellar has to offer. Considering the menu, the prices are just perfect. I would have to recommend the Mac and Cheese as well as the hummus because they're a great size to share over a flight selection of wine. We went to the Cellar last Saturday night. We got there at around 9:30. I think the piano player played 3 songs before he stopped, including 2 - 30 minute breaks. How late is he supposed to play? I love The Cellar! Its a new and welcome addition to downtown San Clemente. The wine and cheese selection are second to none. And the atmosphere makes you want to add it to your favorites. The Cellar has a really awesome vibe. Everything is awesome about this place. I know it sounds weird, but I love their wine menu because of each description of different wines. Also, they have a pretty fantastic selection of good beers. Draft and bottle. I also really like the dark ambiance inside. We usually always get the cheese plate (you can choose 5 or 7 cheeses). The cheese plates come with sliced baguette, different pairings (usually jams or reductions), and of course different cheeses. There's always live music in the evenings. I would recommend making a reservation or getting there before 7:00 on Friday or Saturday. this place gets packed, and it's no surprise. Oh, and did i mention that their food is amazing? Went there for my husband's birthday with a group of 17. The staff was really nice. They were very accommodating and patient. The food was delicious! I loved trying the different types of cheeses. The food was very unique but even people with simpler tastes were able to find items they liked such as sliders. I had the omelette of their lunch menu and loved it. I've really liked this place in the past but it has gone downhill. No reservations, hard to find a table, so loud you literally have to yell to have a conversation, and not great service. The food is ok, I used to love the mac n cheese with short rib but that has not been very good the last couple times I have visited. This place is a jewel if you enjoy wine and cheese. We arrived a few minutes before happy hour ended and ordered the 5 cheese platter for $9. What a deal and it's not just cheese on a platter but accompaniments and the cheesemonger delivers it herself and explains all the different cheeses along with what she has chosen to go with them. Outstanding! I can't wait to go back again and actually enjoy dinner there along with more cheese and wine. Just make sure that you understand the work that goes into the platter and that it is not something that can be rushed and you'll be fine waiting for it. Order a wine flight and experience the different offerings while you wait. I preferred the Hidden Ridge Slope 55 Cabernet. This is a really nice casual place to grab a bite of good food and wine. They have a great selection of modestly priced wines by the glass and a selection of wine flights for those that may want to sample. I might add the pours are quite generous. The staff was friendly, attentive, and helpful. The food was very enjoyable. The portions are great for sharing and sampling and pair very well with the wines. I started with a white and moved on to red and all of the food complimented my wine choices quite well. I recommend trying the cheese plate and one of the flat bread pizzas. I am not really a Mac and Cheese person, but the Mac and Cheese at The Cellar is unlike anything I have ever tasted. It was may favorite dish of the evening. The only thing that I have to say that is possibly negative is sometimes the music is too loud for me and makes it hard to have a conversation, but other than that, I love this place! I have been going here a lot lately for happy hour. The food that I have ordered here is usually fantastic. Brussel spouts are seasoned and flashed perfectly! Sweet Potato Fries are super tasty with one or two of their great beers on tap. I suggest the Palm. I don't often eat red meat anymore, but I did have one of their burgers (grass fed?) and it was incredible! One thing though, I do notice that the portion sizes can very, and are on the small side usually. The Mac and Cheese is amazing! Tastes so rich, but is tiny in size. Really cool spot. The place is seat yourself and has a bunch of cool places to sit - even at the piano. We ate at a long shared table which we shared with another group of people. The wine selection was great and we really enjoyed the Spanish cheese board. We ordered the arugula salad and short ribs - both of which were fabulous. Came here with a party of four on a Saturday during prime dinner time. Was a little worried about parking and finding a table (since it's first come first serve yourself a table), but surprisingly since there was a day street festival, all the beach people were tired and had left the area, which left us with parking close by and finding a table within a few minutes. We all love wine and cheese, so a few of proceeded to order reds (I ordered the smooth Merlot; yummm). We ordered family style; Spanish cheese board, foie gras, burrata, and fish and chips. Honestly, it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Everything tasted delicious, while not overly stuffing everyone. A guy with a mustache came out to give us bread (maybe to scope out who ordered the foie gras?). He came out again and talked to us about how we liked the pate and how he takes pride in serving it. My boyfriend and I stopped here for dinner on our last night in CA before heading home to NY. We had an absolutely wonderful meal and night at The Cellar. We both tried the a flight of wine, which were all very nice. We then shared a cheese platter, muscles, mac and cheese, and finished with the absolutely delicious warm cookies with lavender ice cream. Live music too, which was really nice. Our favorite spot on del mar! Love the wine selection. The cheese plates have never disappointed. When we have ordered dinner it has always been delicious. They change up the menu often so you won't be bored. Not great if you have a favorite. We have always had good service. Get there early and be prepared to wait for a table.
