i stumbled across this place while wandering the neighborhood in search of a specific place which my visiting vegan (vegetarian while in dublin) friend had found on her iphone. we kinda got turned around in the streets there and i just happened to see "lebanese" on the sign for cedar tree. i was delighted (being turkish and so very hard up for good middle-eastern/mediterranean food) and it turned out my friends were into trying it out as well, so in we went. we were not disappointed. just the selection of starters (mezes) is staggering - it's a page and a half long! we ended up ordering a bunch of them to share and i think one main dish. surprisingly, and to my vegan friend's delight, they had quite a few dishes she could eat. as opposed to the usual potatoes with a side of potatoes she was usually stuck with. the food was really amazing. as some other reviewers have said, there isn't a lot of choice for ethnic in dublin and i'd add that what you do find is often a poor approximation (with a side of potatoes). this was not one of those places. it was on par with lebanese places i've been to in san francisco run by actual lebanese people, and a lot of the flavors were reminiscent of turkish cuisine so that's always a plus. of the 7 or so plates of food we had before us, only one was mildly disappointing, but nothing that couldn't be fixed w/ a dash of salt. this is easily one of my top 5 favorite places to eat in dublin. if you go, get the kibbeh. and yes, the hummus is wonderful as well :) read more

Despite all the good reviews, I didn't find the food to great here. I ordered the vegetable mezze which came with falafel, salad, hummus and spinach filled samosa-like dumplings which wasn't bad but I found the falafel slightly too dry. The hummus was really nice though, and tasted great spread on the pita bread. My friend had falafel which she loved, and the portions here are pretty big too. The prices were a bit on the steep side but not crazily expensive, however I found that with the overall quality it could have been a bit cheaper. The inside of the restaurant is pretty big with lots of seats, but for some reason we were put at the very back corner which I didn't like too much, but oh well. The service in my opinion was not that great; the waitress was quite shrewd and didn't come across as as friendly as I had expected, but at least they were efficient and the food arrived fairly quickly. I would say this restaurant seems better for groups were you can order a bunch of things or a platter and share as there is great variety and the servings are large too. But it wouldn't be the best middle eastern cuisine I've had, so I'll give it 3 stars. read more

Kinda sad that people in Dublin might think this is what Lebanese food is like. Maybe I am too spoiled (coming from LA where there are AMAZING Lebanese food every where) but this place didn't even have the right dressing for the fattoush salad! The salad greens seemed to be wilted and not fresh. Even with the lamb dish we ordered the food came out within 3 minutes! We were suspecting that they were pre-made. Lamb was just OKAY too. The food is good, probably the best Lebanese food you're going to get in town. I've been here a couple of time, and I would have given them 3 or 4 stars, but their waitstaff was outright rude to my party the last time I ate here. I came in a group of three at around 6PM on a Saturday; we wanted to share a couple of appetizers and a bottle of wine before meeting up with other friends for dinner later. The restaurant was maybe half full, but the host gave us the stink eye about not having a reservation. It was also barely half full when we left an hour later, so not really sure why they seem to care about people having reservations that early in the evening. After we were seated, a waiter came over to take our order. I guess they really only want people to come in if they're going to order the full 3-course meal, because when we placed our order of four starters and a bottle of wine, the waiter literally replied, "Really, that's it?" Our order averaged out to a little more than €15/person, it's not like we tried to order table scraps. He actually told us he would have to consult the manager to see if "it was okay." I guess the manager had a modicum of common sense, because when the waiter came back he seemed much more subdued, and after he took our order we didn't see him again, another waiter brought out our food out and took our payment. Still that was probably the rudest (sober) interaction I've had since moving to Dublin. Long story short: if your business is listed on Yelp as being the €€ range (€8-20 per person), don't get bitchy about a group coming in intending to spend in that range. read more

Great food but the owner/waiter was very rude and unfriendly. The older gentleman with the glasses was on the cranky side today during lunchtime today. Whether or he was having a bad day or not, he should've been more professional and more accommodating when families come there to eat with small children and toddlers. I would not recommend families with kids to eat there. read more

The Cedar Tree - City Centre South Lovely restaurant in an ideal location for dinner with friends. We went with no reservation but we were quickly seated downstairs and made feel welcome. There's a wide variety of Lebanese cuisine at reasonable prices, and great quality. The restaurant itself had a great atmosphere, with Lebanese dancers providing entertainment, beautiful interior design and friendly, helpful staff. We'd definitely go back to try more. read more

High prices, but the quality service and delicious food makes it worth it! I loved my entire experience here, which included wine, tons of starters, and sharing mains! We went on a Friday night without booking, and they were eager to have us despite having plenty of patrons! Excellent way to start your meal, by being welcomed! Our food came pretty quickly and hot! I'd recommend the baba ganoush and the kebabs. I don't think anything disappointed food wise! The menu is extensive so order a bunch of things to get a sense of how awesome the chefs are. I was utterly disappointed by this Lebanese restaurant. I usually love this kind of food, but I really felt they let themselves down. Myself and my date ordered one mezze vegetarian plate and the dish of the day to share, which consisted of tiny pieces of dry lamb cooked in a very plain tomato sauce. The mezze plate contained pickled vegetables like carrots and cauliflower that looked and tasted suspiciously like they had been slapped on the plate straight from a jar. The belly dancer came jiggling between the tables halfway through the meal, and the atmosphere in the restaurant, despite the fact that every table was occupied, was so staid (perhaps everyone's meal was as bad as ours) that the performance was very awkwardly received. It is about three years since my first and last experience here. Perhaps things have improved, but I can't say I'll be rushing back to find out. read more

Wonderful atmosphere inside this restaurant, with beautiful mosaics on the walls and tables, and a very lively crowd. The waiter was very helpful to us in deciding what to order with our dietary limitations of being vegan and gluten-free, and we still ended up with a wonderful spread of food. I am not gluten-free, just my wife, so I was able to enjoy the delicious pita and tabouleh, but I wish they had gluten-free versions of these items for my wife. The house red wine was an excellent accompaniment to our meal. Just what we were hoping for in a night out! read more

Dined with a friend here last night and had a fantastic time. We arrived early and by the time we were leaving the place was packed and there were people hanging around the front waiting for tables..always a good sign for a decent restaurant. We went for the Beirut Mezze, which came with about half the menu's starter selections followed by a main course of mixed kafta (chicken and lamb) and spiced potatoes which were absolutely fantastic. Along with the fact that we spent €30 a head for a huge meal with a couple of beers a piece made for a fantastic value for a restaurant in city centre. Along with a couple of lebanese beers and service that kept us steadily eating, it made for a great evening and I will be returning there soon. read more

Terrible experience. They have the worst Kabsa I have ever had in my entire life. I couldn't eat it! It was no where near Kabsa. And the lamb was not fresh. I complained then they told me it is Lebanese kabsa trying to make up for their bad cook. And they said that no one can cook Kabsa in Ireland! Like seriously, if you just google the recipe, I'm sure you will get a better result cuz I didn't even see you trying. Who the hell puts mayo in Kabsa?!! I also had a previous bad experience with a delivery for shawarma. It was dry and not eatable. I'm not kidding, I could not eat it! I don't recommend going to the restaurant at all. It is very expensive I spent 25 Euro on something that is not even eatable! read more

Average restaurant with decent menu. However, I didn't like the food, especially the rice was very hard and not properly cooked last time I went and the shewarma was okey ish. I wouldn't suggest it for those who like Arabic food as you can experience better food in Dublin. read more

Had lunch here. Had the Arayess for starters and Chicken Mashi for main course. Lebanese food is delicious. Great atmosphere and customer service. The Chicken Mashi was lightly spiced with lovely sauce. Great for those who love lots of mixed mild flavours. Lebanese rice is amazing. read more

Reading over some of these reviews, I realized I had a very different experience than some . . . and was benefiting from comparing it to Los Angeles restaurants. The quality and quantity of food was superior to what I have ever had in Lebanese and other Mediterranean restaurants. Again, maybe it is just my LA-visitor mentality. The mezzes was a gigantic amount of food and everything was tastier than the dish before. This quality of meal in Los Angeles would both be hard to find and cost half-again as much. Honestly, don't even get me started about this place. My husband and I had the beef shawarma wrap and the chicken shawarma wrap. They were out of this world. Something about the juxtaposition of the pickles and potatoes that makes these wraps melt in your mouth. I'd describe the experience as orgasmic, seriously. I've eaten a lot of food, good food, in a lot of different places but this is the only place where I've begged to go back to. Hopefully we'll make it before we head back home to the states! Went at lunch which was excellent value. 2 courses with soft drink €9.95 with a great choice of food. Mezes plates €10.50 also excellent. Bread fresh and yummy, as was the hummos. Service friendly. Perfect food for a small price. I've been there for the falafel wraps in the afternoon and also for dinner and both were perfect. The afternoon wrap costs around 5 euro, it's a good way to start. The staff is really friendly and the place is welcoming and familiar. read more

It is kinda sad that people in Dublin might think this is what Lebanese food is like and "the best in town" as everyone here has described. As a daughter of a Lebanese father I am used to the real flavours and spices but this place didn't even have the right dressing for the fattoush salad (what a shame!). Sadly I wasn't to hungry when we went to the restaurant but I did have hommos and falafel starters as my meal, which were delicious. I wish I had more space. The hommos was definitely enough the share and it came with fresh warm pita. The falafel was very smooth, some falafel I've had in the past were grainy. The dressing with the falafel was also good. My brother had hommos, some sort of spicey chicken and tomato sauce dish, and baklava. I did have a bite of his baklava and it was really good. I was here a good while back but the food was gorgeously yummy. slow cooked meat in beautiful sauce full of spices and herbs. super fresh.

I had a bad experience here with service, but food was good. They do an early bird lunch which is a good price, but portions are quite small. My favourite was the vine leaves starter, i dont love their hummus. A reason I would come here again is the lebanese coffee. Also the early bird is a good enough deal even with a small portion its enough. I would also give the cedar tree a point for freshness, the parsley and coriander etc, it was so fresh, more than the herbs id use in my own cooking, they must have got it that morning, and it really made a difference. I had come here before for a dinner and it had been so expensive whatever meal deal we got, but actually its not so expensive if you get an early bird lunch. read more

Great place to go if you have dietary restrictions! The staff was super knowledgeable and helpful with navigating the menu as a vegan, and the food was incredible. I'd come back for the food on its own, but the personable staff and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and fun and I'm making a point to come back the next time I'm in Ireland. Went to The Cedar Tree last night for some variety after all the heavy Irish food, and we were not disappointed! The Vegetarian Meze included several incredible dips, spicy mixed pickles, small stuffed pastries, falafel, tabouleh and more otherworldly delights. We ate all we could, then asked them to pack up the leftovers for us and had fantastic homemade almond baklava for dessert. Service was good and we did not have to wait long, one waiter was friendly and the other downright charming. I am no wine expert, but the red house wine went very well with the food. read more

On Friday the 5th of Dec, we turned up 14 people to our Christmas party, all happy and looking forward to that evening, in Cedar Tree, 12 of us turned up on time, we're invited to go downstairs, the waiters could not find our reservation -despite of the fact we had to pay a tenner's deposit each to guaranty this booking! -the table is not dressed at all, we wait in the noise of 2 other Chrismas parties, we finally sat down, we've asked for a particular menu, we're presented with another one, 10 euros more expensive, we ended up 12 of us ordering the Lebanese meze, we've previously phoned the restaurant, the lady on the phone said that there's so much to eat in that meze that you do not need to order a main course...Fair enough, then we were served 5 or 6 different dishes: for exemple, a small plate with 6 chicken wings and a bit of yoghourt, and I realized that this portion was for 4 people!!!! The humus dish was so small that I took a bit with some peta bread, that was 1/3 of the dish gone, etc etc we ALL came out STARVING. So we decided to phone the restaurant, to ask for some explanations: did they serve half of the food? -my colleague was told twice the manager will call her back, he never did, I phoned twice, finally got the guy on the phone, he DID NOT CARE AT ALL, I WAS WASTING HIS TIME to quote him, he never apologized for whatever inconvenience caused to 14 customers, he never offered any compensation, I even nor one bit felt he was listening to me, he kept on saying YOU'RE WASTING MY TIME, YOU'RE WASTING MY TIME, how come can 12 customers feel the same and a restaurant not to listen to their complain???? so the Cedar Tree, a great restaurant???? Never ever dare disturbing them with a complaint, they just don't ********* they don't want to know, you're wasting their time!! Very good, tasty, fresh food that is authentically middle eastern in a really lovely environment (you're surrounded by tile mosaics - but its not tacky). We chose this because we were weary of pub food and needed to eat something that was not fried after all the pub food that was available to us on our vacation to Dublin. Also, the service was very good and we had the house Lebanese wine which complimented the food. The staff was friendly too when I inquired about some of the mezzes. I did feel it was a bit pricy as compared to middle eastern food I've eaten in NY extensively where I'm from, and I can only surmise that it was pricey because this food is made from a lot of imported items that are probably not easily found in Dublin. read more
