The UK and Europe have a heavy Middle Eastern influence, and this adds to the diversity and regional flavors. We were walking around Swords and needed a place for a late dinner. We came across Zaytoon and wanted to give them a try. The ambiance was nice. It had a nice cafe feel. Plenty of booths, tables and spots to plug in and charge a phone. What blew me away was the hospitality! The staff were all extremely friendly! They wanted to give us a sample of everything! After the meal, we checked out the dessert menu. When we mentioned liking the ice cream they offered a sample, then a full portion! The meal was perfect too! We both got the chicken kabobs and accompaniments. It was so fresh and delicious! The freshness of the produce and meats here is next level! The mango ice cream at the end was a wonderful way to end the meal. Tourist from the US (San Francisco) leaving a review but Persian so I think I can be an honest reviewer here having only tried the food once visiting AND knowing I will be back to Dublin many more times! That said, we ordered Zaytoon on the tail end of our trip because we had indulged on many local favorites and my little ones were wiped from all the adventures. Zaytoon seemed to be just what we wanted to try and it truly hit the spot. They do have some creative approaches to some comfort classics and it did not disappoint for us. Thoroughly enjoyed the lentil rice and the piilaf, the beef and chicken kabobs were delicious, juicy and nicely seasoned. Thank you, Zaytoon! Great place for a quick bite to eat in the Temple Bar area! Pretty low key but packed full of deliciousness. This was our first stop when we got to Dublin- we wanted something pretty quick but different than your typical English or Irish food. Ordering was easy and the food came out fast. We both ordered a lamb doner and they were huge! We didn't think we could finish the whole thing, but it was so amazing that we both had clean plates before we left. The lamb was super fresh and there was plenty of cabbage, lettuce, and sauce to go around. You could also see the spit in the kitchen, which was pretty cool. Everything was great, but this location lost a star for not putting the grilled tomatoes on my dish as advertised in their description. My fiancé studied abroad in Dublin about a decade ago, and if there was ONE thing we had to do when we visited, it was eat here. And it happened, 3 times. He was so happy. And apparently, it was exactly how he remembered it. We ran into a local guy one of the nights who mentioned it was the best doner in the city, and I have to agree with him even though I didn't try anywhere else! Haha! They have some great options, including vegan/vegetarian. The bread they make right in front of you and it's so buttery and delicious, I would take huge a huge package of it if I could. They load their plates up with tons of toppings, and their fries are crispy and delicious. No complaints about this spot, perfect for a late night meal or for dinner in general. Super quick service! Perfect to grab to take to the airport. I ordered a chicken kebab meal which includes a drink and fries for 16 euros. The order took 10 minutes and I had my dinner ready to go! A must to absorb all the Guinness and whiskey! The wrap/pita was made fresh to order! The salad in the wrap paired really well with the sauce. The chicken was fresh and well done. Solid 9.5/10. The lure of a fresh, fast, relatively cheap dinner brought us in. Going in, I wasn't exactly hungry. In fact, I was pretty much just accompanying my husband, to kill some time before the start of our tour. But, once inside, I figured I should try to eat something light, since I'd only had one meal that day (the donuts don't count.) After browsing the menu, I ordered the small Vegetable Shish. My husband got the regular chicken shish, and we added an order of hummus to share. The restaurant, it should be noted, was incredibly crowded when we walked in. There were no tables open when we placed our order, so we had to hover near the entrance, keeping an eye on the parties in the dining room down below, ready to break and swoop in on any open space we could find. We stood like that for several minutes before one group of 3 got up and left the long bench seating. As mentioned, they were busy, so we expected to have a bit of wait before our buzzer went off, alerting us to a ready meal. Thing is, it took a bit of time, yes, but they also weren't using the buzzers that were handed out after people ordered. Instead, one guy with the quietest voice in the universe was calling out numbers over the din of sizzling food, banging pots and the general din of the assembled masses. Our buzzer never actually went off. I told my husband that they seemed to be yelling out numbers, and made to go stand by the counter to make sure we heard when our food was ready, but he went up, instead. Maybe 3 minutes later he came back with two trays laden down with our shish meals, and went back to grab our hummus. If I have nothing good to say about this place, at least I can say that they will fill you up on a budget. My "small shish" was just as big as my husband's "regular". It's just unfortunate that the vegetables themselves weren't good. I love roasted vegetables, and these should have been perfect. But they somehow found a way to make roasted vegetables bland, even after they'd been unevenly drenched in a dill sauce. I picked at as much as I could, but it was no use. I was put off by the red sauce - almost like a marinara, though I know that's not what it was supposed to be - and by the unevenly cooked vegetables. If they'd all been raw, that would have been fine. Had they all been roasted, that would have been perfect. But half of it was raw, half of it was roasted, and there was nothing cohesive about the shish. I ended up barely touching that. Thank goodness the hummus was good, otherwise I would have walked out having not eaten anything (and I would have wasted 9 euro.) The hummus had a smooth texture, and a noticeable tart from what I think was lemon juice. I made a meal out of the hummus and pita, which worked for my husband, who was filling up fast on his own chicken shish. He did say it had good flavor, but that it was a mess to eat. All in all, I wish we had stopped elsewhere, or that I had ordered something different. They get the 3 stars for the hummus, budget-friendly menu and large portions, but we would not go back. read more

I loved how fast the workers are working to bring out the orders, but it does take a while because it takes time to cook. . I got one lamb kabob with rice, salad and all the garnish which comes with fries and a drink. For 15 pounds. . The lamb kabob was juicy and flavorful. Definitely you can taste the char in the meat. The basmati rice was fluffy and hot in temperature. The salad and the garnish was refreshing and Paris well with the dish. The fries were hot and crispy. . Basically you order and pay and wait for your order. Then find a place to sit. It's like a fast food kind of place but more healthy. If you are a true vegan, this restaurant is a disaster. The person running the place doesn't know what is in the food. He served me yogurt and said it wasn't vegan. He was rude, yelling at me for asking so many questions. I explained that I'm severely allergic to any type of dairy and he was blatant in his disregard for my needs. There was no one else in that restaurant that day and he need not have been so rude. Just don't go. Try UMI instead. It's nearby and fantastic! read more

If you're after a donner they don't seem to bother cooking them in the week so that's half the menu gone from Sunday to Thursday The staff seem disinterested. Poor show. Especially as it wasn't busy or late. 10pm on a Monday evening in a place that can seat 60 there were 6 other people. Bread was fresh if a little burnt there was little or no conversation from staff as to what was on the meal. No banter poor service lack of options. Sorry but this place used to be good. In one of Europe's busiest nightlife districts is a Persian eatery called Zaytoon. Yes in Dublin's Temple Bar district - amid dozens of Irish drinking and eating spots - is a very popular Persian restaurant. I believe Zaytoon means olive in Farsi ... and it also has come to mean good food in Dublin. I stopped in for a Barg with everything on it the other evening and I was very pleased with my meal. It's plenty big and at a fair price. This Persian flatbread made for a tasty and filling meal. An added plus - the staff who work here are uniformly friendly. And now because of its popularity, the owners of Zaytoon have added a couple of branches in Dublin. I'll be back to try one of them out. read more

The spot here has a decent amount of seating with worn wooden tables and a nice view of Temple bar. At midnight through ppacr cab slowly begin to fill up, buy they have a good number of people fixing up the good food that you can get your order within 10 minutes. We ordered the zaytoon platter for 2, which included a variety of protein. Overall, tasty and juicy (chicken fairly lemony), but definitely needs a lot of the spicy sauce they have to punch up the flavor. Would definitely ask for extra hot sauce, and it's not very hot at all! The hummus and white sauce came exceptionally chilled, which was unexpected. Overall, decent but ask for hot sauce! read more

It's odd that in my 4 days spent in Ireland, the best thing I ate was not Irish at all...? In any case, Zaytoon is a definite must try when you're around. Yeah it's not what you'd expect to be on a tourist-y must-try list, but this stuff this seriously good. If you're not already drawn in by the display of them kneading dough and popping out fresh pita into their oven, then take my word for it. I got the mixed (chicken and lamb) small donner, and it was a heap of food--not small at all. Great--a nice bang for your buck already! I liked the lamb a bit more than the chicken--it's so tender, moist and full of flavor. But both choices of protein here were wonderful. The chili sauce is out of this world. So much that the next time, I plan on asking for extra of it. You could really put that sauce on anything, and it would be amazing. I literally came to this place 3x out of the 5 days i was in Ireland....and that says a lot. What can i say about this place? And in no way am I offending the good people of Ireland, but this place had the best dish i had throughout my whole trip (aside from this sausage roll at a rando convenience store...) So I read this place up on Buzzfeed...or somewhat...pretty sure it was Buzzfeed. So i figure if i needed a late night eat, i had an option. That time came and i was hungry so why not. I ordered the small mixed donner to go, which has lamb and chicken and on the counter, it listed all the toppings so if you dont want anything specific, just let them know when you pay. They do take card FYI! THEY DO TAKE CARD! It was pretty quick and they call your number out. Grab my food and decided to take a bite before walking out. LITERALLY...MIND BLOWN...IT WAS DELICIOUS (i kinda just drooled a bit thinking back) . The lamb and the chicken, omg it was so flavorful, all the spices came through, the lamb thinly sliced, the shredded chicken..LET THE JUICES FLOW. The crunch from the cabbages and lettuce and mann....that sauces...The chili and garlic sauce (2 different type of sauce) is what made it even better. On top of that...the bread is FRESH...like its fluffy and doughy and lightly crisp. I couldnt get enough and i let my friend take a bite and she was WHOA. essentially...we went back everyday for dinner or lunch. On my last day, i got the regular size with the meal and the fries were lightly tossed with paprika? or some kind of pepper but they were damn good ass chips, crispy and soft on the inside. A better McDonald's version lol. I ended up getting just the chicken doner this time and i have to say...the mixed one is better of the 2.
