This place is a complete rip off. My wife and I went there for dinner a few days ago. After we were coldly led to a table, we looked over the menu, which looked pretty normal, like any regular menu you find in restaurants, but little did we know that it was a trap (you will find out why later on, keep reading). We ordered one of their Mezzes, which consists of a selection of small plates of Middle Eastern food. The price as shown on the menu next to that selection is about 25 Euros as I remember. The food, in fact, was pretty ordinary, and some of the food in the small plates had clearly been reheated and not freshly cooked, we thought the amount and quality were too bad for 25 Euros. However, after we finished eating, I went to the cashier to pay the bill, which turned out to be more than 50 Euros! Two of the restaurants staff cynically explained to me that the price 25 Euros was actually for one person, and since my wife and I were two, we have to pay 25 Euros each! What I found most shocking is that he went on to tell me that a lot of people fell prey to their menu, thinking it is 25 but not knowing that the price is actually per person! Even when I ordered that meal, the waiter who served my table did not let me know that this price is for each person and not for two, as if they were doing this as a trap to get more money from their customers. I had the most perfect meal here. We ordered a ton of starters--Cucumber & Yoghurt, Tabouleh, Hummus Billahem (the one with lamb on it), and the fried Kibbeh and got a Chicken Shawarma for main course and they were all so good! The service was great and the staff were friendly. I have always enjoyed Lebanese food but Cedar Tree makes an exceptionally good meal and if you find yourself near the area--you should definitely stop by. Definitely make a reservation before you go here (especially on weekends) since it gets pretty crowded. read more

This was hands down the best Lebanese food I had so far while in Dublin. We ordered the chicken shawarma which comes with a very refreshing salad, pieces of fried potatoes on the side and pita bread. Their lemonade and hummus is also worth trying. Will def be coming back to this restaurant before we leave! read more

I first came to The Cedar Tree with a friend when we saw the early-bird special advertised and I have now added it to my staple of restaurants in Dublin. Basically, they had me at the hummus! The vegetarian meze plate is devine, and they happily substituted stuffed graped leaves for the baba ganoush when I requested the change. I would say that the only detraction from this particular dish is that the tabouleh is a bit sparce. I cannot recall the specific meat dishes I've had, but I have not be disappointed in a single serving. They have all been generous portions, perfectly seasoned and grilled. I brought my girlfriend and her family who were over here from the States to The Cedar Tree. It was a bit of a risk considering her Granny has never had any kind of food like this, but I've had so many good experiences here and have always been well looked after I knew they would enjoy the experience. We were taken to the downstairs part of the restaurant and was greeted with a warm hug by Nordine, a waiter I have gotten to know from my past visits here, asking me how everything was and warmly greeted my guests. We were taken to a beautiful table with high back solid chairs which my visitors were so astounded by they took photos. We ordered the Beirut and Byblos mezzes, I figured a selection of foods would be a good call so people would have a varied selection. Nordine was excellent when he arrived with all the dishes, describing each one and it's contents. There was so many different plates it was hard to fit them all on the tables. The starter highlights for me were hommos and baba (aubergine) which were the first dishes to go, divine with warm pita bread, some spinach dumplings, bread stuffed with lamb, lamb with yougart dressing, a beautiful hazelnut and pickled roasted pepper dip and garlic mushrooms. The mains were beautiful skewers of lamb, beef and chicken with spiced potatoes and Lebanese salad. We hardly had room for a selection of desserts with ice-cream. We also ordered the znoud which is cream deep fried in pastry which, despite all of us being completely stuffed, as so divine it was devoured in seconds. My guests were overwhelmed by the food, it's taste, presentation and beauty. The bill for 4 including drinks came to €110. I recommend the restaurant for anyone looking to try something different. I came here with a bunch of my friends from the middle east for Sunday lunch. Now let me just state that I was in a bit of a heap because I celebrated Canada Day the night before until the wee hours of the morning. So the thought of something nice and yummy appealed to me greatly... We had the 3 course lunch, which consisted of a starter, main and drink. I had the hummous, as did most of my friends, and then the chicken shwarma. Delicious. We got plenty of pita to scoop up the hummous, the chicken was delicious and tender and I loved all of the vegetables and salad. One of my friends ordered the babaganoush, which I'm not a fan of in general, but it was divine. Good food and the staff were friendly enough. The only concern I had was that one of my friends who ordered the mezze plate, was left waiting until we had all been served our mains. Poor guy was famished. read more

The Cedar Tree is one of our family favourites and and everytime when friends are in town, we try going there with them. Food is massively good and comes in big portions. Beware of the set Mezze - they are amazingly good but will fill you up to the rim. Our personal favourites are the beef shawarma, the hummus with ground lamb and pretty much everything that comes with the set mezze. All a treat. Lunchtime-deals are great value. There isn't a huge amount of choice if you want to eat ethnic in Dublin, so when I discovered that The Cedar Tree (a restaurant that I pass most days and has a name reminiscent of my local pub) was a Lebanese restaurant rather than the standard Indian or whatever, I decided to give it a go. The food in The Cedar Tree is very good, and it is eaten in very nice surroundings, though the night I was there, the place was a little empty, and I find it a little bit disconcerting when you're one of the only tables in the restaurant. I am also slightly uncomfortable with the experience of being waited on generally (it just seems so subservient and archaic), and in fairness to the waiter, he was trying to be helpful, but I don't really like to be hovered over when I'm eating. The food, as I said, is very good: I had meatballs in a type of tomato sauce with cashews in it. Oh, that's another thing - don't bring a person with a nut-allergy to a Lebanese restaurant on a date, lots of the dishes have nuts sprinkled on them. The Cedar Tree, though, is a mite on the pricey side. Most of the mains came out at about 17 or 18 euro, and you don't get rice or anything with that, and if you throw in a couple of starters, drinks and a split portion of rice, you'd be looking at a fairly sizeable bill at the end of the evening. One of my favorite place to have a good arabic food. I went woth a group of 6 and we had the combo, which allowed us to try a lot of different kinds of food. The staff was nice and as price was okay. I found the decoration romantic and with some kind of charme. Is a different and good place for your first date. Definitely looking forward to come back. read more

I went here with friends, both Dubs, one never tried Lebanese food and we ordered a few 'signature' Lebanese dishes to share and they were fabulous. However, we ordered a bottle of wine and there were pieces of the cork floating in our glasses and the wine did not taste right at all. We complained about it and they seemed put out and did not offer us a new bottle; they just wanted to close up for the night. The following day, two of us were sick as dogs and we consumed the majority of the wine. Lesson learned... if it don't taste right, don't eat/drink it. read more

Great little spot a 3 minute stroll from the bustle of Grafton Street. The staff are friendly and welcoming - they offer daily early bird and lunch specials. I had the tabbouleh salad to start, it was refreshing and cleansed my palette for the next course. My friend found the lentil soup to be bland, and over salted, but loved her main course, Maghmour, a dish consisting of aubergines and chickpeas. I had the falafel which was tasty enough, but could do with more pickles and sauce as I found it very bready and stodgy in the pita bread. The Cedar Tree is perfect casual dining, if you want to rest after an afternoon's shopping or are heading along to the cinema later in the evening. I found the service to be a little slow and our order went to the wrong table so wouldn't recommend it for a work lunch, but the staff are most friendly, and accommodating. I wish they had more vegetarian options for the lunch special though! read more

J's colleague brought us here when we were visiting Dublin for our potential move abroad. 2 years later, this is still one of my favourite places to get my chicken shawarma fix. Must be 20 years since I'd last been here. Remembered why when our mezze was served. It was pretty ordinary, bland and each dish tasted pretty much like another. Salads and hummus bulked out the fare and meat of any variety was in pretty short supply. The Pinot Grigio was good - hard to screw that up - and the service was friendly and efficient. I am shocked and appalled after being told to leave for not ordering enough items . My friend and in popped in for a bite to eat and decided upon 3 warm starters to share. This in my opinion is acceptable as we weren't famished . The waiter then said we need to order more as " This was the rule " . I stated that this rule was not displayed anywhere on the menu or outside . He then said " Leave so !!!!" Never in all my years have I been subjected to such rude treatment. If you like Greek or Lebanese food, then this is the place for you! I have walked by here for years, but was never tempted until a friend suggested we try it. I was sceptical right up until I opened the door when I was hit with the most amazing aroma. We ordered the Mezze (6 to choose from) and had out table filled with small dishes in no time. The dips and meats were delicious (make sure to try the baba ghanoush) and were accompanied by the house Lebanese white wine. Delicious, don't think twice about visiting. read more

My mate and I were in Dublin for the day enroute from the Isle of Man, and we chose Cedar Tree to get shelter from hail/rain that surprised us. That being said, it's funny how life's cards are dealt and how we "fell into" Cedar Tree by accident. We tried two meze plates (not sure of the names at the moment), but my mate had never tried ANY middle-eastern foods prior and with this experience he was sold for good. Excellent presentation with so many flavors distinct and clearly displayed for us. The quality of the food is the highest of this type of food even I have experienced in my lifetime. The service was excellent, and the prices were amazing considering the quality of service/food offered. Nothing like this food is found where we live (Atlanta, GA/USA), and I would definitely revisit Cedar Tree if/when I am in Dublin again. read more

Wow! What a burst of flavor! I loved the food at The Cedar Tree. I ordered the Kefta dish. The lamb was so delicious and juicy and the tomato sauce really added a nice level of spice to the dish. I got to sample some of the other dishes and they were very good as well. I wish I had discovered this restaurant earlier during the trip so that I could have come back a second time, but oh well. We were leaving the Stag's Head after a few pints when we noticed this little Lebanese restaurant. At this point, our group thought hummus sounded like the best thing in the world. The Recap: Very fresh food. The hummus was delicious and was topped with some fantastic olive oil. The entrees were nice and I enjoyed the falafel quite a bit. The interior of The Cedar Tree is swathed in vibrant Mediterranean colours, marble mosaics and ethnic Lebanese motifs. Upon entry I was bowled over by the intricate and authentic decor but sadly, after sampling the menu, cannot attribute the same praise to the cuisine nor service. I ordered 'Kibbe', the Lebanese national dish that consisted of a meat pie made from finely minced lamb and burghul wheat. This was accompanied by an 'Arak', which is a strong anise-flavoured liquor made from fermented grape juice. I drunk mine with water and ice, which turned the clear liquid milky-white. If there seems to be an authenticity accompanying the food and drink owing to the way I am describing them then I apologise that my perspicuity is resulting in false hope. The food is moderately tasty but the biggest drawback is that it is not a realistic impersonation of true Lebanese cuisine. If the cuisine here is not going to devotedly characterize cultivated Lebanese incarnations then I might as well go to Captian Americas and eat a burger that does stay faithful to the original premise of American fast food. I went here to eat something totally unique that I would never have tasted before but instead was presented with food that looked and tasted generic, they looked and tasted 'ethnic' alike Moroccan, India, even Kenyan but not exclusively Lebanese. The most pitiful part of my dining experience was the impolite waiter service. The waiter was tardy in coming over, we were ready with our menus closed for a good 10-15mins before they approached our table (and we were only one of two tables in there at the time!). When our orders did arrive there were a number of mistakes and things missing such as accompanying vegetable side orders, rice and dips. There is a grave lack of Lebanese eateries in Dublin and so I don't want to make an already endangered animal extinct but when the food and service is of poor quality I would be being disingenuous if I did not encourage dining elsewhere. read more

Very mixed experiences for other yelpers so I'm glad I am one of the lucky ones who had an amazing meal here. Myself and my friend ( who has a lot of family in Lebanon) ordered a mix of dishes to create our own mezze, and none disappointed. From tasty salad with crisp breads turned through it to divine spinach parcels, everything was lovely, with the exception of the coffee, but I think it was just a personal taste thing as I refuse to accept texture in a hot drink! A surprise was the wine. I'd never had Lebanese wine before but really enjoyed the €12.50 carafe we got. Added to the above the staff were really lovely and had not been reduced to bitterness by the insanity of the Xmas season at all :-) read more

We ordered the chicken kafta and king prawn. Very disappointed the word "king" prawns was incorrectly used. I was expecting the real king prawn and was served with a large shrimp. Price was expensive for what you will get. As for taste it's decent and palatable but very dry. Food is served a la carte. I would not recommend this restaurant if you're craving Lebanese food go check out other place. read more

I went into this restaurant primarily to have a mezze platter, but because I was there by myself, they refused to serve me a mezze platter for one - only the much higher priced platter for 2 - or I had the option if paying about 4 times more to order several individual appetizers. Moreover, the hostess tried to seat me in a spot where I wouldn't be seen, despite the fact that there were a number of other small tables more visible. In a word- overpriced. I dined here with three other friends and we ordered a spread of mezzes but only one entree. It came out to more than 30 Euro/head and we didn't even order alcohol. Portions are small and some dishes (the Falafel comes to mind) simply miss the mark. Had dinner here last night as have wanted to try authentic Lebanese food for quite some time. Quite disappointed really to be honest. My falafel starter was very dry but my fiancé enjoyed her vine leaves & tabbouleh. My beef shawarma & my fiancé chicken shawarma main courses were what seemed to be made from scraps of tiny pieces of meat.
