Upon entering at 11am, people were already waiting to get in, an excellent sign. So we go in and I noticed it looked very clean, another plus. We were then seated an ordered our drinks. My husband & I popped in to look at the menu, but the waitress ignored us. We stood there patiently while she seated a couple that came in after us, she looked up at us and continued to help other customers already seated and when she went to the register to cash out a bill, we then asked her to see a menu.....without acknowledging us, she slapped it down on the counter while continuing to talk to other customers coming in. Needless to say we didn't stay. We've encountered subtle to obvious racism in the 15 yrs we've lived in St Cloud, but this was the most BLATANT display of racism yet. This place is great. A good down home kind of place where people are friendly and gives you the small town feel even in the midst of big St Cloud. Our server was great. Patient and kind and courteous. Very engaging and friendly. I had the fried shrimp and chicken tenders. Came with sides (fries, fried okra and hush puppies) which were all good. There were about 5-7 other side options too. Hush Puppies are REALLY TASTY! They had a two dinner deal for $18.98 and you get plenty of food. We will be back. Outstanding experience. Its location is a little out there for me but I try to get there as often as I can. I've only ever had their fried shrimp and I really must try other things on the menu but they are so incredibly good I end up ordering them every time. If they got any fresher you'd have to eat them under water! Perfectly breaded and so crispy! You'll be hard pressed to find better. Service is super friendly and top notch. We've been coming here for some time and I was surprised I hadn't done a review before. We discovered this place years ago when staying in the Orlando area and saw an old ad in a tourist publication. Since then when we are anywhere near the area, coming cross state, and it's lunch time, we've been making the slight detour. I'm a fan of their whole fried catfish which is local and comes on the bone (luckily cleaned, no head). It's a little difficult to eat, and a tad messy, but the white fish meat is tender and flavorful fried in a light meal batter. The lunch special included 4 small whole fish with your choice of two sides. Think southern and you can guess what most of them are -- okra, grits, sweet potato, corn on the cob, etc. etc. This time I chose mashed potatoes with gravy and their veg of the day which was whole chunky honeyed carrots. All plates come with several hush puppies too. Everything was delicious. My husband had their fried catfish filet pieces (no bones) and fried shrimp combo. Their fried shrimp is excellent! And if you're not a catfish liker, choose the shrimp. For non-seafood lovers, there are options like chicken livers, chicken, burgers, salads, etc. They gave a senior menu and a kids menu too. Plus daily specials. Prices are quite reasonable. Their key lime pie is pretty good. I like their thick graham cracker crust. It's served cold from the fridge though. It's not too tart so depending on your preference, you'll want more lime or not. If you're a southern cooking aficionado, you have to come here at least once. We went there at the recommendation of our tour guide. Place was clean. Place was huge and tables were well spaced due covid. Food plates were large and looked quite good. It's definitely liked by locals. I'd have to disagree. We got different items and they all had one thing in common way over fried. Some to the point we couldn't eat them. Hidden gem? I think so! The experience at the Catfish Place was fenomenal, the food great, the prices amazingly low (aka reasonable). Plus the beers are super cold, it really should only be legal in the UK to serve room temperature beers! The service is not bad either, just laid back. Some may consider it a bit on the slower side but we were in no rush. The place is impecable. You'd think a dated building would come with a specific stench, not the case here. We went Friday for lunch, our first visit. This is a lovely local seafood restaurant. 20 people were seated in the waiting area before us, but the line moved fast and we were seated in 10 minutes. Have lived in St cloud for 20 years. Don't think there has been a month go by that I haven't been there. I'm a southern gal and I love green fried tomatoes and these are the best. We came to this place as a recommendation from our airboat driver at Spirit of the swamp tours. Captain Chris said we could get some great catfish here. since the family and I had never tried catfish we ordered the sampler which consisted of frog legs catfish, alligator tail and turtle. All of them were surprisingly good and nothing like what we w ere expecting. I've never had any of those before and the most surprising was probably the turtle which tasted just like a steak bite. Denise was our server and she was very polite and was the one that recommended the foods to us. For dessert we had the Frenchsilk pie, key lime pie, and peanut butter pie. it's a long drive down there but if we're ever in the area again we will definitely be back. The bathrooms were average, but smelled fantastic. My rating system consists of a 3-star being exactly what you expected and neither good nor bad. First time eating here. Always drove by and the parking lot was full, no matter what time of the day it was. Today we decided to do it! Although my wife and I are Latinos, today we felt the deep heartfelt emotions that John Denver tried to share with us in his song "Take me home country roads"! I felt like the "place we belong"!!! Hubby wanted AYCE whole catfish so off we went, drove 90 miles. Reminded me a good ole fashioned fish joint and it really has been around awhile. Our great server, Alisha, answered all my questions and gave great suggestions, like add onions to the hash browns. They were really good. We both enjoyed the huge portion of cole slaw, too. Oh, we had fried green tomatoes, too. Cut in half and deep fried. Very good. Now, for the main attraction, the catfish. The whole fingerlings were quite big. Hubby loved them, came out piping hot. I had the lunch size boneless catfish, plenty of food. It was cut in smaller bite size pieces. I enjoyed it, although the breading was a little salty for me. We didn't really like the hush puppies. This place is like a comfortable pair of old jeans. It's very relaxed, you just feel like home when you are here. We have been here many times over the years and we love to bring family and friends that visit. The fried pickles are our favorite appetizer. They are lightly bettered and fried and served with their house made ranch, which coincidentally they sell in the local grocery across the street. It is so creamy and the ranch flavor is so robust, it's truly one of my favorites. I always order the fried catfish (with no bones) which come with two sides, today I chose a baked potato, and side salad with the delicious ranch. You also get 3 hush puppies with your order, which is a tasty addition. Our order was served quickly and everything was hot and fresh. The fish was so flaky and delicious. It's one of my favorite meals. Something cool they have added when you come in is a frequent diner program, so now you can earn rewards every time you come in.
