As a Louisiana native recently moving to the DFW area, I was on the hunt for good seafood. This has been the best casual spot I've found thus far. I like how they fry the catfish- it's not super gritty with cornmeal. The catfish and shrimp had a nice flavor and the it was served hot and fresh! I took a friend who ordered grilled catfish and dropped a piece, and they immediately jumped in to cook her a new one! I heard someone say, "If you're not sneezing, then it ain't seasoned!" Everyone in the restaurant was sneezing at the same time as the seasoning wafted from the kitchen. We laughed because it was unusual for EVERYBODY to be sneezing, but best believe there was not one unseasoned bite on our plates. I sent someone there who wanted fish. Went here for a girls' night dinner and loved everything from the casual atmosphere and great service. Everything we ordered was tasty and well-seasoned without being overly salty. We tried the boudin balls (great crisp texture), blackened gator app, boiled crawfish, catfish nuggets, fried okra, crawfish etouffee, and beignets. All the fried food had a light yet flavorful breading that was top notch. The blackened gator had the right amount of seasoning and was nice to see over fried gator. I am not talking about it not being hot; I was COLD. French fries had the consistency of overcooked noodles. Limp and flavorless. I mean really, every fast food joint can produce decent fries. Heather , the GM, greeted us & was very helpful with everything. The food was outstanding. Hot & fresh. Tenders were perfectly cooked & seasoned. A light crunch in every bite. The fried were crispy yet light. I ate every last one of them which I rarely do. So glad we stopped in today. My wife had to get a to go box plus she found out they had fried green tomatoes & had to have some. They actually use real utensils even though they give you the standard packed utensils in the to to orders. We came at the perfect time even though there was still walk in traffic. The food was hot out of the fryers and delivered immediately to the table. The fish po boy and catfish nuggets were fried to perfection. The fried green tomatoes were on point and trust me, I know how hard it is to find good fried green tomatoes. So glad we found "the catch". This strip center restaurant serves up basic seafood fare that is quite good. It's a very casual atmosphere with a few interior tables for eat in, but most I saw was taking orders to-go. It is counter service, but if you eat in, they will bring your food out to the table. Food came out hot and in about 10 minutes. I had the blackened catfish & fried shrimp combo with hushpuppies and rice. The catfish fillet was on the small side but cooked perfectly. The shrimp was larger than you normally get so it offset the fish a little. The hushpuppies were pretty good too, and the rice was, well, rice. Prices were reasonable and they had a few desert selections I didn't indulge in, but they looked awfully good. If you're in the Campbell & Coit Rd area, give it a try, it's worth the visit and you may find a gem in the rough. read more

The Catch just opened a month ago. This was my first visit. I have traversed southern Louisiana for more than three decades. I know good Cajun food. THIS is good. Red beans and rice were cooked/seasoned perfectly. Likewise, the shrimp etouffee. Very well done. Interesting the etouffee is offered by the cup and at a very reasonable price. The hush puppies were light and fluffy, the seasoning hitting on the back end of the bite. The gator was lightly breaded and quite tender. I was mostly excited to try the fried green tomatoes. They did not disappoint. My only critique would be I wish they would add a little flour with the cornbread batter. Big juicy slices of green tomatoes. You can order it with a "Cajun cream sauce" - I didn't, but I did get to try the sauce. Nice flavor similar to etouffee, but not. I'm a purist, but you might enjoy it. Last, I ordered beignets. Mixed feelings - the flavor was 95%, but they were a bit dense. I admit to comparing all beignets to Cafe du Monde, YMMV. I'm supes excited to have this so close to home. read more

I just popped in for a quick bowl of gumbo to go. I was very pleased with the flavor of the gumbo. It definitely had plenty of shrimp and fish and the broth was delicious. I was disappointed that in my sack was just 3 packs of crackers. I was looking forward to maybe a piece of French bread. The bowl size seemed a little small but I will definitely be back to try the catfish in fried shrimp. They looked really good going out to the tables. I should have taken pictures but it all looked so incredible we just dove right in. This place is a MUST visit. It's so delicious and incredible. We got the fried pickles which were perfectly crisp and yummy. Ranch was fantastic. That's always a critical for me. I got the snow crab (the house mix) and it was mind blowing. Ridiculously delicious juice for that crab. I got medium heat but I definitely could have gone higher. I like a little kick but even for people who aren't big on spicy you would love this sauce on mild. My friend got the fried catfish and she said it was the best she's ever had. The batter was phenomenal and crispy. Absolutely perfect. House fries were a home run. We will definitely be back it was that good.
