We visited on a Friday at 6:30 and the restaurant had a line plus we ordered and waited 30 minutes or so for the food. I was all worth it. Get the oxtail and the jerk chicken. Oxtail had great texture and jerk chicken was grilled and actually tasted grilled charcoal. Everything was well seasoned not overly salty. Mac and cheese was some of the best we have tried. Might be a wait during dinner hours but be all worth the wait. The man was really nice and service with a smile. If you are in the neighborhood, get some great Jamaican food!

We came on a weekday and had no trouble sitting. You order a main protein that comes with rice, cabbage, and plantains. You can order sides of things like fried chicken or mac & cheese. We went with one small jerk chicken, and one medium oxtail. The portions are absolutely huge. It was the most generous small I've ever gotten in a restaurant... such an incredible value for just $10. The jerk chicken is absolutely delicious. I loved the rice and cabbage. It was a really satisfying meal. I also love the flavor of the oxtail, but picking through tiny bones isn't really my thing so jerk chicken is the way to go. Before you leave, you have to order a slice of the rum cake to go. It is the first time I've had fresh rum cake (not the typical Tortuga) and it was so delicious and moist, it was almost like a custard. We loved it so much, we picked up food again on our way home. You can tell this restaurant is loved by the community - definitely a special place to stop while in the area.

Our communities are enriched by the gifts they bring. Yesterday, I got to experience it firsthand thanks to Amy and her crew over at A.J. W Caribbean Restaurant! They hooked me up with a FANTASTIC meal--a TON of fall-off-the-bone tender stew and delicious black rice and pigeon peas with some of the biggest plantain pieces I've ever seen! They've been open here in Albany for just over a year (a critical milestone in restaurant operations!), and if you haven't been here yet, you're missing out! I'll definitely be back (hopefully to try their snapper!)

Moist inside, crispy outside with just a bit of heat. A must. Also had a medium portion of the beef stew with vegetables which was easily enough to serve 2. Stew was pleasant with harmonious flavors but the available spicy slaw kicked it up a notch. Accompanied by black rice which now comes with green peas, not mushrooms, and a pleasant plantain patty. (I'm used to plantains sliced like bananas at Cuban places and guess this one is mashed then reconstituted into a patty.) Slices of onion and bell pepper, shown in previous photos, no longer included nor is what looked like a pretty ordinary side salad. Still a very good value for what I received. The interior is spacious and pleasant (apparently a former Starbucks) and a little hard to find with a difficult to read sign. It's to the left of the Men's Wearhouse store in a strip mall facing Colonie Center. Give it a go so this cuisine newcomer does not go away!

Service is always excellent and the food is prompt for freshly cooked entrees. The environment is relaxed and casual without feeling fast-foody. The food is excellent and we love the option to have sorrel to drink with our jerk chicken. So good. Don't forget to order some plantains.

We both got the jerk chicken with greens. While we finished our dinner and it tasted good; I have several specific impressions and suggestions for improvement. First of all, both of our dinners could have arrived much hotter. They were more like "well warmed" in a microwave than truly hot- so I assume that's how they typically do it there. We were hungry enough not to send it back to be 'heated up' more -but they should be aware of how hot their food should be when presented to customers. Second, we love Jamaican food- goat curry/jerk chicken/oxtails, greens, etc. This chicken was seasoned + tasty; but the chicken honestly tasted like BBQ chicken much more than the jerk chicken I've had in any other restaurants. Finally- and in the end this was the worst issue, the gal who was our waitress either had never done a waitress job before, or was so poorly trained at this establishment that she literally had no idea what she should be doing/noticing/taking care of. At various points, this was frustrating (she didn't check on us at all), didn't seem to know if we needed more water/napkin,etc. mainly because she just didn't walk by the table/or stand back keeping a watchful eye on her table. At certain points, I heard her boss talking to her and telling her what to do next- but clearly she didn't even have a basic concept of what she was supposed to be doing. I waited tables a lot thru college and eventually I felt sorry for her lack of training in a job where you clearly represent the business. But, we were the only people in there for dinner, only 1 person drinking in the bar besides us. It was just unacceptable. We won't return-but would love to find good Jamaican food somewhere in the region. PS It was several months ago when we ate there, hopefully staff is consistently better trained now.
