Cannon Coffee is a creative little coffee shop in a rapidly gentrifying part of Hamilton. We were passing through Hamilton on our way south and wanted to try an up-and-coming place for breakfast. The restaurant was about 15 minutes of the highway but turned out to be well worth the detour. Cannon Coffee is a tiny café, with a row of tables lined up on the opposite end of the kitchen/prep area. They high ceilings, light floors and light walls do a good job distracting you from the lack of space. Cannon Coffee looks brighter bigger and more spacious than it actually is. There are two people behind the counter. If you order a coffee, they will call you up to the side when its ready (like most coffee shops). If you order a meal, they will bring it to your table. I ordered a double espresso and a "Canadian Brunch" which is comprised of a loaded waffle. The coffee had a rich flavor but was a bit acidic for my palate. I do appreciate that this was a quality cup of coffee even if it wasn't my cup of coffee (so to speak). My wife had an americano and loved it. On to the waffle, and my main reason for putting Cannon Coffee on my map of where to stop next time you are in the neighborhood. The waffle was absolutely fantastic. They mixed pieces of apple into the waffle batter, sprinkled cheddar cheese on top along with two poached eggs and two strips of crisp maple bacon. The waffle had an excellent apple-to-batter ratio and you could taste apple in every bite. The thick strips of bacon were crisped to perfection and had none of the chewiness of fattiness you would expect. There was just the right amount of melted cheder cheese on top. The sweetness of the waffle perfectly complimented the saltiness of the cheese and bacon while the eggs enhanced the rich flavor of the meal. They also served real maple syrup, which is a big plus in my book.

My girlfriend and I stopped by Cannon Coffee after hiking the trails by Albion Falls for some brunch. I came across this coffee shop on Yelp and decided to give it a try and did regret it. The Cannon is a coffee shop that offers a selection of sit down brunch options. Upon entering we were immediately greeted with a friendly smile from the barista at the counter. The interior is beautifully lit with natural light as the floor to ceiling windows allow for tons of light. The food was excellent, and I mean excellent. I had poached egg, with bacon and a waffle. It was so good. My mouth is salivating just thinking about it. My girlfriend had the salmon with avocado and waffle. That too was amazing. She had a cappuccino and the barista had done a very nice milk art. For me, since I dont drink coffee I had the organelle mango juice. Again, it was more than exceptional. Oh, along with the meal, they bring over Dawson's hot sauce and syrup. I had a taste of smoke bbq chipotle and instantly put over the bacon eggs and waffles. I couldn't leave without purchasing a bottle for myself. It was so good. If ever I'm in Hamilton again, I would definitely go here again.

On our way out of Toronto, en route to Niagara-on-the-Lake, my mother and I stopped in Hamilton after doing a Yelp breakfast search. We took a chance on Cannon and were pleasantly surprised! Oh man, waffle goodness!!! My mother enjoyed her bacon waffles (with REAL maple syrup) and I relished a London Fog latte (w/ almond milk) and a Cali cheddar waffle sandwich. Homemade waffle goodness!!! The savoury, salty cheddar waffles against the guac and bacon made for a blast in the taste buds. And a sweet sip of my latte made for a scrumptious breakfast before our wine tasting afternoon.

We were passing through Hamilton and decided to grab a cup of Joe and a snack in the up and coming Ottawa St area! The coffee was dark and rich, and served in a big mug. They have a decent menu with various options, so I asked for a recommendation and ended up with the American Brunch! It was a large waffle topped with sweet potatoes (normally they use avocado, but they ran out and had to improvise), goat cheese, greens, and balsamic reduction. It was delicious. As someone who absolutely loves balsamic vinegar, this was a very welcome tangy topping which brought all of the ingredients together into a perfect flavour bouquet. Service was friendly and excellent. While this is a small bustling shop, we found a place to sit and didn't have to wait long at all for our coffee and food. The girl behind the counter prepared everything quickly but also with care. I'll definitely be back to try something new the next time I'm in Hamilton!

Like a 3-3.5* Interior looks new, clean, and quaint. Place isn't that big though. Servers were friendly. We ordered: Americano (good), Double Choco Coconut Muffin (decent, not too sweet which is good), and Power Bowl. Power Bowl ($10+) - It was just ok, however some slices of avocado or something else would've helped. It was literally some greens, 2 poached eggs, shredded cheese, and a dollop of tomato jam. 1 of the poached eggs was overdone. I think the item to order are the waffles and they're made in-house. Cute place, but nothing really blew me away. I wouldn't be opposed to going back though.

YAS! I'm so happy that I finally made it to Cannon coffee in Hamilton during my recent visit to the Hammer! It was the first spot on my list and I got up extra early just to make sure I got a spot as I read the seating could be a little limited - this wasn't true for weekdays but might be for weekend crowds. I wanted three things: morning coffee (an Americano), breakfast (The California brunch plate) and free wifi. They had all three in spades and in taste. You can't be called Cannon Coffee and have bad brew, and they made sure of that point, it was an excellent American (as good as Americanos go that is - espresso and hot water). But the brew was mild and not overly bitter - very much enjoyed! I was excited to try one of their famous waffles so I ordered The California brunch plate which came with a healthy heaping of Guac, tomatoes (that in my opinion were a tad over ripened - those got pushed to the side), and bacon all on an amazing savoury waffle made with cheese. DELICIOUS! The wifi was free indeed, and to add to the that the service was really chipper and friendly, giving me almost the same amount of positive vibes as the coffee (insert love emoji here). You were on my list Cannon, now you're forever on my hips. I'm fine with that. Eatcrest Out!

This was one of my favorite brunch place in hamilton, but today everything was not ok. First of all, the server split guacamole on my jacket, which was not a pleasant start. Second, the poached egg was too hard and someone from the kitchen told me there was nothing wrong with it. When we finished, another lady asked us if everything was okay, which they used to do at the very beginning of your meal. I told her that my experience was bad, and she promised me next time they will make sure the poached egg is soft. Oh my.. who knows if there is going to be a next time. I do noticed this place is getting popular and they are very busy every time I visit. But busy was not an excuse for dropping the dining experience of your customers. You can raise up the price, no problem. However, please hire more people that can at least maintain the quality of food and average standard of service, because we do pay tips! Maybe we shouldn't?

I've been to this place a couple of times. First time I was curious due to the good ratings and yummy looking food. Second time, was quite honestly a craving. Both times I had their California brunch. What can I say, once I find something good on a menu...I tend to stick to it. I promised myself that on my third visit I will try something new - will update then. The place is small but can seat quite a bit of people. On both occasions I was there, they were pretty busy. Regardless of how packed they are, their service is great. They're all smiling and happy to help. Ok my first visit, I ordered a delicious cappuccino and on the second, a quite strong macchiato. I got cute little designs on both of them - thus they are artists as well! The food comes quickly and they bring you 3 sauces to try. All 3 are quite good, but I stuck to the orange one (can't remember what it was...). I don't tend to finish entire meals, but both times I devoured my plate. I will definitely be back!

We decided to try this place last weekend Hamilton. A little confusing when u go in. We sat at a table for a while before we realize we need to stand at cash to place an order to eat in. We place our order a coffee and a hot chocolate. For regular coffee at 2.25 $ and hot chocolate at 3.50$ cups were small. After 20 mins of still waiting for our food we placed a order for a pot of chai cream tea. 15 mins later my husbands food arrived which he loved. And my order came, but it was the wrong one. They also over charged me 3$ for the mistake,and never offered to compensate for it. Suddenly a man off the street received food instantly which I saw hike pay full price for. Only I know it was my returned order as I saw the cut my husband made. 15 mins later my soggy waffle BLT came. Would have been awesome is they had took time to make it right. Tea came 5 mins after we completed our meal. Disappointed Based on service and hygiene would not return. read more

Yum! We came here for brunch on Saturday around 10am, and were lucky enough to grab a 2 person table (someone was just leaving). It was freezing outside, and Cannon Coffee was a nice, warm (albeit a little stuffy) retreat to enter into. I would describe this small cafe/restaurant as cozy hipster with that "Sunday brunch" atmosphere. I ordered an almond milk latte and the American fresh basil pesto waffle, which comes with avocado, 2 poached eggs, goat cheese, grilled pepper and sweet potato, and balsamic drizzled overtop. The waffle is huge for the price ($8.95), and so filling, I was only able to finish a little less than half of it! It was truly delicious though, and the pesto/basil is cooked right into the batter! My friend ordered the Californian waffle, which comes with guacamole, 2 poached eggs, bacon strips, and chopped tomato. She really enjoyed her meal as well! I would definitely say you get bang for your buck here. My meal came out to about $17 with tax and tip, which is great for coffee and a yummy meal. You also get some great pictures as the waffles look beautiful. I'll probably be back to try the sweet waffles next time! read more

I'm sure this is usually a very nice coffee shop but however, it is highly disappointing that they were out of decaf coffee so I could not taste their coffee in fear of staying up all night. After arriving on a flight from Edmonton, we were hungry and my husband needed his caffeine fix. We were attracted to this place from the beautiful pictures of fresh waffles and upon arriving 30mins before closing we were informed that their kitchen closed at 4pm. The remaining two stars were given as my husband's coffee was very good. read more

If you're a fan of sweet and savoury, this is the place to go. I had the Canadian brunch and I LOVED it. I've never had apple waffles before and I was very pleasantly surprised with how great they were. The combination of flavours with each bite just made me crave more. The eggs were the perfect amount of runny and the bacon was both chewy and crunchy. The prices for all items were fair. I left very satisfied and I can't wait to go back. read more

The atmosphere at Cannon is incredible - super laidback whilst also very busy! I love coming here on rainy days because it's so cozy. Staff are friendly and welcoming. 4 stars because I'm pretty sure prices increased (although don't quote me on that) and they no longer have the ham and apple waffle sandwich :( read more

Really quaint unassuming place but the food is absolutely delicious. Only drawback is they do need to invest in better customer care. The lady who took our orders wasn't particularly helpful and seemed a tad bored which was kinda "off - putting" but otherwise wd definitely go to this place again read more

The Cannon is a really great coffee shop in east Hamilton. The co-owners are very involved in the cafe and coffee roasting which you don't often see in other coffee shops. They also have some pretty impressive latte art skill. As a McMaster student, it may be a bit further than the closer coffee shops downtown. The lighting is great with the large wide angled street view from their corner window. The atmosphere and music are great. The 'Merican brunch waffles was suggested by one of the owners. I haven't had waffles since elementary school, but the poached eggs, avocado, and goat cheese combination literally melted in my mouth. The Cannon is a great addition to the cafe scene in and recent revitalization in Hamilton. I would love to come back again. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! It's just what Hamilton needs-beyond perfect coffee, great staff, cute little location, and the bathroom is a work of art!!! If I had to only drink their coffee for the rest of my life, I'd be happy! The pumpkin white chocolate pecan muffin is ridiculously good, as is the pear blackberry. I liked the bacon waffles too, and I'm not even that keen on waffles/breakfast food. The service is quick and the staff is accommodating and friendly. I went 3 times in two days when visiting Hamilton, and I can't wait to go back. It's in a really nice, interesting area of Hamilton too. read more

Donut monster donuts! Awesome scones and muffins! I enjoy the chemex coffee, haven't tried the other coffees but they sure look good too! Did I say they have delicious waffles sandwiches/paninis? Lovely art on the walls and a nice big window for watching people go by. It's a little pricey for my budget but I try to enjoy going here as often as my budget allows me to :-) read more

Amazing deliciousness. Cute little place. Reminded us of what hoof cafe looked and felt like. Wothout the amazing cesars. The waffle sandwiches are sooo yummy!! Service was very friendly and all the food came out quickly and was incredible. We ordered 2 coffees and 1 canadian waffle which was winner winner !! The syrup over perfectly poached eggs with bacon and apple waffles the portion was perfect and price was soon reasonable! We also ordered the California waffle sandwich and that was also really great! What a novel concept.... sandwich fillings in a waffle!!! A Gruyer waffle... Breakfast for two was around 25.00 after tax and tip. This woulda cost double in toronto. read more

GREAT addition to the city, ended up in Hamilton for 2 days and visited 3 times!! The coffee was excellent, service friendly, good waffles! It can get crowded (smaller space), plus 'warm' (temperature). Maybe try going at 'off' peak times. I would visit every time i return to Hamilton; this is the kind of stuff/place that is making Hamilton 'newer/better'. NICE! read more

Passed by on our way home to Toronto to refresh and refill. Good thing we did, refreshed and refilled we were! We had Cortado, chemex & a couple of hot chocolate to go with lemon currant and apple raspberry muffins. Everything tasted great. Such a relaxing place highlighted with the beautiful collage hanging on the walls. We'll definitely be back whenever we are in the area read more

If you were to compare this place to any Bay Area, California coffee spot it would definitely just blend in, but considering this is Hamilton, Ontario this place is a little gem. I ordered a maple latte that really just tasted like a regular latte. I was kind of expecting a little bit more of a distinct taste since it costed 50 cents more for the flavor, but all in all I would come back for the ambiance and to try other drinks. The staff is also incredibly friendly. It's definitely a nice place to sit back and try something other than Tim Horton's. read more

AMAZING place. It's very small and has very few seats, so there could be a wait. It's nice because you can order your food at the counter while you wait. They serve up everything you can think of in terms of caffeine and other drinks. We both ordered the Canadian Brunch. These waffles are AMAZING. I completely recommend this place. read more

Two words - cheese biscuit!!! The absolute best cheese biscuit (some call them scones) I've ever had, hands down. I had one earlier this morning and now, a 4 pm, I am craving another! The coffee is a pleasure, I've only been twice and tried two different brews but both times it was exceptionally good. There are not a lot of seats in the coffee shop, so you may have to wait for a seat, or get your order to go. People are friendly and if there's an extra chair at a table I find if you ask nicely, you will be welcomed to sit. The people sitting at the same table as me (no one I knew, just friendly folks with an extra chair!) had ordered waffles that had me drooling, they looked SO good! I was told the waffles they ordered were made of banana bread mix, what a great idea! I was assured the waffles were excellent - I know they sure looked yummy and smelled delicious! I will happily return later this week to test out my theory :) Staff are extremely friendly and willing to share ingredients if you have any food allergies or concerns, as well as take the time to explain what the coffees they are brewing are like (strong, spicy, mellow etc). Highly recommend Cannon Coffee Co. in this up and coming if not already trendy Ottawa Street North! read more

My friends and I were looking for a brunch place and Cannon Coffee Co seemed to fit the bill. Unfortunately, all of their tables were full--I can't blame them. Have you seen the photos of the amazing waffles they serve? Instead, we decided to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a coffee first, both of which were a great way to start the day. I ordered a cappuccino, which was delicious, and my friend's Americano was spot on (their words). I enjoyed one of their ginger cookies which was a nice starter before we headed off for breakfast. This is a lovely and laid back coffee house, and filled with a very friendly, welcoming staff. I've definitely return! read more

I had the Classic Breakfast Sandwich with bacon and it was the most incredible breakfast I've ever eaten. The coffee was amazing, the atmosphere was great and the staff were super nice. One of the cutest coffee places in the area, literally everything there is #instagramworthy , i saw quite a few customers at the restaurant taking photos of their meal. I thought the meal was tasty, the aesthetic was pleasing, and the service met expectations. Found this place while on a business trip in Hamilton, and had some time for breakfast. I'm not a coffee snob by any means, but I sure love waffles so that's what brought me here. I got the Canadian brunch waffle and it was excellent. I've never really had poached eggs, but I loved them. The bacon was a little soft for my liking but still good. And the apple waffle, delicious!! I would eat there again at every chance I could. Worth a stop in if you like waffles. read more

Came here for brunch with some friends. Getting here involved waiting more than an hour for one friend to finish a task and also, being rejected from our first choice on this day, which happened to be closed. Nonetheless, we all really liked the really casual atmosphere of 'The Cannon'. Short but interesting menu. Everyone else liked the same thing, the California Brunch, so I was the odd one out with the 'Merican Brunch. Theirs had guacamole and tomato on jalapeno harvarti pancakes, and mine had avocado slices and sweet potato and goat cheese and greens on pesto pancakes with Balsamic glaze on top. I think mine was better looking and some of them agreed :) We also got side orders of the waffles for a sweet final touch. A little on the pricy side for the size, but very tasty. They have good attention to detail. read more

The food was excellent but the service was meh, just ok. We ordered the Merican waffle sandwich and Californian brunch - delicious and was worth the 25 minute wait on a Sunday afternoon! My boyfriend also ordered a latte which he thought was ok, and my london fog latte was good but too sweet. We got a goat cheese and dill scone to go. Oh my lord, it was heavenly! Bonus: free parking on Sundays at a nearby parking lot (the Ottawa Street farmer's market is held there on Saturdays.) Though weekday parking rates are only $1 per hour. read more

The sausage is sweeter than others (I enjoy this but I know it's not for everyone. The Dutch pancakes are so cute and little, coated in icing sugar, and served with maple syrup on the side to dip. For drinks I ordered the Maple Foam Cold Brew. Make sure to stir/not put your straw at the bottom of the drink or you'll get a hit of maple! Once it's stirred it tastes great. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu (I'm eyeing the coffee flights)!
