We have not strayed from Fiona's for any of our cake needs since our wedding cake tasting early last year. Every birthday/occasion for cake has prompted an email to Fiona to hook us up...and hook us up she most definitively does. I got a small wedding cutting cake from Fiona, and she was such a pleasure to work with. I called her a few times then ordered via email about ten days out. She had no issue with my timeframe and was very helpful and accommodating. We talked a little bit about my intentions, and she recommended a size of cake and allowed me to choose the flavors. We went with a chocolate cake with raspberry filling and white buttercream - my goodness was that cake good! We only did it as a cutting cake, so we didn't offer it to guests, but they were still clamoring to get the remaining pieces! As for the design, I told her that I wanted a white cake with "some sort of texture." I told her that we were doing silk flowers for the wedding, and she recommended that I put some of those on the cake - definitely a great recommendation. I left the design of the icing up to her, and she put a perfect texture into the icing - not too crazy, but just enough. The cake was ready as requested, boxed up nicely, and the staff was very helpful when we picked it up. Fiona creates simply incredible wedding cakes. She is truly a master of her craft. Both we and our guests were very happy with the cake she did for our wedding. For our cake, we had three different tiers in two different flavors. The two smaller tiers were a vanilla cake with a raspberry preserve filling; the one largest tier was an almond cake (brushed with amaretto) and an almond brittle buttercream filling. The entire cake was covered in an Italian meringue buttercream icing. Fiona makes everything herself and uses 100% real ingredients. The raspberry preserves were from actual raspberries, not corn syrup and food coloring. The buttercream contains real butter, not shortening like most commercial bakeries. As the name implies, Fiona's Cakes is a one-woman operation. If it isn't already evident, shes does great work. On the business end of things, she's equally awesome. She took plenty of time to go over options with us, listen to our ideas and requests, and explain the pricing clearly. In the end, Fiona ensured we had exactly the cake we wanted for our wedding. We couldn't ask for anything more! Fiona's shop is bit difficult to find; it's located behind the Severna Park Bowling Lanes on Ritchie Highway (Route 2). I know what you're thinking -- "Behind a bowling alley? Surely, you can't be serious?" I am serious... and don't call me Shirley. Don't let the location fool you. This cake is incredible. The cake design was stunning -- I suggested to Fiona some basic ideas, but for the most part I let her do what she does best: creating an exceptional tasting cake that is beautiful to look at it as well.
