I must have had a totally different experience the times I've eaten here because it's been much better than most of the previous reviews. Very diverse food options, sandwiches, salads, hot meals, drinks, coffee bar, etc. Daily specials. Very affordable and good portions. Plenty of cold drinks to choose from. Sandwiches are made fresh and served up with kettle chips and a pickle. I was more than satisfied. Plenty of seating inside the cafeteria area, and outside tables with some nice views of the East River and skyline. Staff here is pleasant and helpful. There's also clean bathrooms to use in here.

I loved the vibe here. It has a huge dining area that is very bright with lots of plugs so you can work in peace. The coffee is reasonably prices and very good. Food is decent as well, although not many healthy options. Staff is friendly and welcoming, quick service.

For a campus cafe, it's A-OK. Just don't get your hopes up. Food's ok for such a fancy campus.

I am a fan of the soups here. They are uniformly good. I have not tried the coffee or the other food, so I cannot comment.

Oh, the memories.. I really wanted breakfast but it was like 4pm and that menu option wasn't available but the host mentioned that they have a Happy Hour deal at the bar so I figured why not. Let me check out what they have to offer. They had some happy hour beverages but I'm not a big drinker. Besides I had to go to work. But for those who like wine, one type of IPA and margaritas, they had some special specials on those drinks. And on the food, can't remember what they really had besides the Mac and cheese dumplings, which I have never heard of, but I was ready to explore. So I ordered the dumplings with the cheese dipping sauce and they were OK. Not really my thing and I don't know if I will order them again per se but they were OK in my opinion. Next visit I'll try to get there for Breakfast/Brunch or dinner because I know those menus have some great options!

I didn't realize I was stumbling into a speakeasy. Password is enforced, but easily accessible! I found myself walking into a basement, and before me was a small sex shop equipped with toys, Playboy magazines, and tapes.... LOL after the host verified the password and welcomed me in, I was prompted to go into a curtain and walk through a bookcase. The space is so fun! I loved the decorations and the lights - it was giving a very fun, silly, 80s vibe. All the tables seemed to be reserved at the time, so I sat at the bar. Service was kind, friendly, and quick! I ordered a couple of drinks and the Happiest Meal, which is basically an adult Happy Meal. It comes with a small 80s toy, a cocktail of your choice, and food. I ordered the fish tacos along with the Eye of the Tiger cocktail. The bartender was really nice and explained how the space used to be a peep show in the 80s, which is why they leaned into the bit when opening the speakeasy. And there are brunch specials and karaoke sing-alongs on the weekends, and later in the night, a DJ comes in. What a surprise - I have to come back!

This spot was a cool place for gathering. It's a dark inside atmosphere, almost like a club, but not too loud either. Speakeasy's are the hip new thing for a bit now, and this 80's themed one didn't disappoint. They kept the jams going, and got the drinks out fast, & there was plenty of space to sit too.

While walking around the Flatiron district, I came across The Smith. This New Yorker only knew about the Midtown East location, so I was quite happy to take this opportunity to walk in and grab a seat at the bar. Adam, my server, greeted me with such welcoming enthusiasm, he filled the mood perfectly with lively and accommodating energy, that I felt immediately comfortable during my solo dine. I couldn't help but absorb the inviting atmosphere of my surroundings, as well as people watch while others appeared to do the same. This moment literally gave me time to relax and smell the roses...blessed. Moving on to my review. The Smith has so many diverse, new American dishes. No wonder others enjoy this mini-chain of restaurants. Dishes I noticed on the menu were the Smoked Salmon Potato Waffle, Baked Eggs alla Vodka, Benedict Johnny, Potato Chips with Blue Cheese and Onion Fondue, just to name a few. I kept it simple and ordered a light, yet filling bite of the Spicy Salmon Tartare. This appetizer lived up to its name...it was deliciously rich and spicy. I need to go back to try some of their other comfort offerings. So I'm planning my next solo dining experience or if someone wants to tag along, to relive my experience at this American Brasserie called The Smith.

I visited the Nomad spot equally compared to their Lincoln Center address, not to mention their Midtown East Side location a couple times as well. There's also a 4th, in the East Village which I haven't visited. Finally, they secured a space in Times Square for their upcoming 5th NYC location. A recent and gorgeous summer day allowed us to make a later lunch pit stop here. Sitting semi outdoors (indoors but with all floor windows/door open), it almost felt like al fresco dining. We had twin meals. I couldn't pass up on their veggie burger with all "the works". By veggie, it included mushrooms, Kale, Quinoa, jalapeño and more. The works topped this delicious burger with a special sauce, pickles, tomatoes and onions. So very good. The shoestring, crispy Fries AND the Captain Lawrence beer on draft was the best marriage to the excellent burger. Since the space is large, it always tends to get noisy but, yup, I'm a huge The Smith fan!

By comparison, the new one is much better and much more fitting, while still being moderately loud but not earsplitting, presumably due to both the ceilings being a lot higher and the tables being more spaced apart. It's also a lot brighter, with plenty of mirrors on the wall and larger tables. As mentioned by most others, the portions here are rather massive for NYC, even in comparison to some diners and delicatessens, which makes the prices pretty reasonable. Our large group went here for something I rarely do: brunch. The servers were reasonably overwhelmed, but still friendly. Knowing how big the portions are, I only ordered the $22 Spicy Chicken Sandwich, which is typically served with pepper jack cheese, crispy onions, and hot sour pickles on a home-baked brioche bun. I did something I rarely do, which was ask for a substitution. In this case, it was cheddar instead of pepper jack, and it was obliged. The sandwich was quite large and a bit difficult to pick up, as it was pretty messy, but the flavor was nice. The chicken was juicy, the batter was pretty light, and there was a load of crispy onions. The pickles added a bit of sour crunch and a bit of heat, and the bun did just well enough to keep it all together. Overall, it was tasty. In terms of other dishes, there were a ton. I had one of the many tasty Deviled Eggs for $15, served with pickled mustard seed, smoked paprika, and pickle chips. From the same appetizer section, I particularly enjoyed the $13 Okra & Chilies, made from smoked & pickled okra, red pepper flakes, and scallion. I liked the smokiness, and the okra had some good grill marks, with this being the lightest dish on the table, outside of the Pickle Sampler someone else got. If you're looking to have a heart attack, I would order the decent $19 Poutine. Featuring fries smothered in brown gravy, cheese, and a hollandaise drizzle, I would compare it more to disco fries or other forms of loaded fries. This was due to the lack of cheese curds and the style of gravy. Outside of the comically massive portion, it's fine. In terms of other mains, a few had the two types of Smothered Chicken, either with sausage or mushrooms, for $24. Someone else ordered the non-spicy version of the same sandwich I got. Finally, another got the gigantic $24 Chicken & Waffles, consisting of buttermilk fried chicken, a golden waffle, house maple butter, and powdered sugar. There was also another entree, but I don't remember the details. I preferred this experience a lot more than the previous time and would recommend them for brunch, at least. Just come very hungry.
