Stopped by for lunch during the WSL surf tournament. Was a great, sunny day - watched some great surfing and was hungry and thirsty. Ice cold beer on tap, great bartender and then sat down for one of the best meals I had in a while. Delicious food, generous portions and one of the best wait staff around. The portions here are great. The Quesadillas are not flat like most restaurants. There is alot of filling. The steak and bean one is good! This place has awsome empanadas.. Spicy but tasty! Cabana...Ok mexican, no need for a Copa... Location's good, atmosphere is better, and the drinks served in large pitchers is the best. Unfortunately, the food doesn't keep the momentum going... The fajitas are served in an odd liquid that was interesting at first, but too wet later on. The standard mexican fare is, well, standard. The highlight is definitely the mac and cheese with chorizo... Now on to the good stuff. The drinks are good and it's a great place to go with a group. I have only had terrible experiences at this location. I have spent a lot of time in Long Beach and the Cabana is the ONLY restaurant I refuse to go back to. The service is terrible. We ordered food for take out during the Corona virus pandemic and we were missing parts of our order, the servers were not wearing face masks appropriately, and the restaurant allowed unmasked patrons to be crowding the streets. I am one to have a good time, but I have never been more disgusted by a buisness in such horrific times. This is a prime example as to why the pandemic continues. I refused to eat anything that came out of that kitchen. I will NEVER be back! read more

I am pretty wary of eating Mexican/Tex-Mex food so far away from the West Coast, but we drove past this place on the way into Long Beach, and it began a craving for chips, salsa and tacos. We finally got there on the eve of Memorial day, so it was PACKED - with a fun cover band on the patio. We were three adults and an infant, and quickly realized that we were certainly not the demographic - lots of young hipsters out and about. It was very crowded, and loud, so it was hard to talk. However, the food was really good. My fish tacos were especially good, and the salsa and guacamole was splendid (made from real avocados that were ripe!!). All three of us enjoyed our meals - my partner had a burrito, but I forgot what the other meal was. I was surprised how quickly we were served in light of how busy it was - our server was particularly competant, while I watched other tables virtually ignored while their servers were gossiping and playing on their iphones. We saw The Cabana and figured Mexican food would be satisfying and fitting. Being from Southern California, I was not expecting it to be phenomenal. But it was cheap (ish). The place is very cute and basic. There is a bar, indoor, as well as outdoor seating, and the menu dons tacos, burritos, and platters. We were sat and immediately were brought a basket of chips and two kinds of salsa. The food was ok. I got the veggie tacos, which came with rice and beans. The flavors weren't as flavorful as I have experienced in the past. Nevertheless, it satisfied my hunger. The service: not bad, but not good. I really really like this place. This is the first place I ever had guacamole. And now I can't get enough of it. I had the pleasure of bringing my friend here last week, and it was lovely! We had one of the few adult waiters there. We both ordered meals and were overjoyed by how delicious they were. The teen waiters were sweet to us, also. But since I'm a neighbourhood kid, I suppose it wasn't hard for people I know to be kind to my guest and I. They refilled our chips and water often which was nice. I love the Cabana, I truly do! I am not the type to write negative reviews or get people in trouble, but it becomes necessary when a place that serves food is unsanitary. I was here over the weekend, and it was a negative experience right off the bat. It took 20 minutes for us to finally get water, and the bus boy threw our chips on the table which caused the salsa to spill. No apologies or anything. It just didn't seem like he was trained properly. I would have let this all go until I noticed that the chip basket looked as if it wasn't cleaned in weeks. It was covered in stale chip crumbs, and I didn't notice until we were half way done. Safe to say we stayed away from the chips after that discovery. Next, our food was brought out (50 minutes after we ordered) and there was cheese on mine when I specifically said I was lactose intolerant and couldn't have dairy. When I told the server, a different man came out of the kitchen with my SAME dish with the cheese clearly removed by hand. I understand that mistakes happen, but it is unethical to jeopardize someone's health and just "pick out" their allergen. Not to mention the fact that someone's hands were in my food, that's how people get sick. The server was apologetic and did not charge me for my meal, but I could not accept any other food or drink after seeing how unsanitary everything was. This is a cute restaurant and has a lot of potential. I suggest to the owners that you train your staff better and ensure that everything is properly washed before giving it to a customer. I would give the food and drinks at The Cabana 3 stars. Not great by any means but not awful. The atmosphere and music really made the night for us. The musician was incredible and we loved the vibe. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa. The green salsa was pretty good but the red tasted like it was a can of diced tomatoes with a little onion chopped up in it. The margaritas (frozen) left a lot to be desired. They weren't flavorful at all but were better once we squeezed extra lime into them. I had the chicken fajitas which came out sizzling and smoking hot! They were good but again not very flavorful so I relied on hot sauce to kick them up a notch. The rice and black beans were horrible and bland. I skipped them completely. My cousin got the chimichanga which was huge! She liked it but again was a little underwhelmed. After a beautiful day at the beach we were hungry and decided to stop buy to eat. The staff was very nice and sweet but when food came out it was a different story. Well first of all if you're not feeling super hungry right Away it's the perfect place because you'll wait a solid fifteen minutes Atleast for a table then after you're sat at a table meant for two people even though you're of group of three it will take another twenty to forty minutes for the complimentary chips to arrive (which are also the best part of the meal) then you'll have another forty minutes to enjoy the drunk groups singing the national anthem in your ears while you wait even longer. Then you can enjoy your slushed "frozen" margaritas. Your waitress most likely will go missing for a majority of the meal and greet you with a nasty look on her face cause she probably doesn't care how everything is ;) ahhhh the beach life is good . I went for brunch today for the bottomless mimosas..since there was nothing vegan on the menu I asked for just some veggie tacos instead of the fish tacos but the staff was being very difficult. At first they said they could not accomodate, in which i would have had to pay $9 for every mimosa. After some prodding they ended up giving me taco shells with just black beans and lettuce. I was very dissatified. They should be willing to accommodate different dietary needs without completely lacking flavor and forcing me to pay so much extra. I think our waitress was on something last night. She would disappear for big blocks of time then come back looking and acting disoriented. We had to search for her over and over to get drink refills, napkins, and had to ask twice for the check. We gave up on trying to get water refills. When our meal finally arrived, the fajitas were awful. Lots of green and red peppers swimming in grease, a few small shrimp, and all of it leaving us "remembering" dinner until the next morning. We should have taken the sign at the door "Hiring Now Kitchen Help" as a warning. We had been regulars at this restaurant for many years. Although Skyla, our waitress, was sincere, she couldn't compensate for the ineptitude of the kitchen and her own lack of training. We waited nearly 30 minutes for very ordinary food to get to the table. The Men's room had a large sign "Out Of Order. Please Use Girls." The Ladies' room had a sign, "Boys Please Use Porta Potty" located in a corner of the parking lot. Unfortunately there's no provision to wash up in the Porta Potty. Had to use the ladies room to wash up. I wonder if the male staff is following Health Department rules regarding washing hands after using the restroom. In addition some very standard menu items weren't available. If you want to drink over priced beer and puke in the outhouse this might be the choice for you. Avoid The Cabana. Many better options in Long Beach. read more
