You know what I love most about Yelp? Finding places like The Buzz in the middle of nowhere. I would never, ever have known about it - and I was desperate for a place to eat at 8 a.m.! The Buzz gave me a home-cooked, absolutely DELICIOUS breakfast that I wanted to shovel into my mouth quickly - but didn't, because I also wanted to savor every bite. Very, very good food - and while I live far away, I WILL go back whenever I'm nearby. I lived down the road from this place before it even opened and we fell in love as soon as we saw those giant baked goods through the front window! Even now living 15 minutes away, I still love going here. It's simple, fresh, local ingredients - most are procured during the peak season for those ingredients and from what I understood, some items run out or aren't always available because demand can be higher than your supply when you buy local. So I am happy to know that they run out of fresh ingredients sometimes, it means they don't keep a huge stock of food so it doesn't have the chance to go bad! There are fresh home made baked goods with love put in every morsel. Whether I stop in for coffee or if my husband comes in for a giant, decadent brownie before heading to work, we absolutely love this place! My husband is such a picky eater, we rarely eat at restaurants because he is almost NEVER satisfied with his food. and forget breakfast, he typically hates eggs. But he came home one morning from this place with a breakfast strata that was a huge portion he was raving about how good it was. This is huge for him to RAVE about anything with eggs. I love the cozy atmosphere with chairs and couches to lounge. I cannot speak for any new staff hired at the establishment, but my husband, myself and our children are always treated with respect and understanding if we had questions about anything (like the huge coffee/espresso menu!) Had breakfast here that was very good. Their tater tot trailer hash had some really smart things going on. Tough to give me something I haven't had before, and they did it really well. I also got to try their breakfast strata and a crab meat fritatta - both very good. Fresh fruit was best quality you can get. Didn't get to have pastries yet -but they looked amazing. Friendly service too. Would give an extra half star if I could - only thing keeping it under a 5 was that they seemed to get a little frazzled as a rush came and took awhile to get us our check. Found this place thanks to yelp reviews as we were passing through. Came in for brunch on a Saturday. They were very friendly and great service. The owner found out it was our first time and gave us a whole run down of the menu. My wife got a breakfast sandwich and I got avocado toast. We order my son the oatmeal square. I have visited this charming little place twice now and both times the entire experience was stellar. To start the minute you walk in you get the vibe of a country chic cafe. It's mismatched tables and vintage inspired decor sets the tone for the meal. We chose a seat outside on our first visit but one wasn't available on the second. Both times though the service was friendly, fast, and warm. The menu changes often (weekly?) with really fun menu item names. The first time I ordered a BLT frittata and my fiancé got The Buzz version of a traditional Benedict both were served with a fresh fruit medley and both plates were scraped clean. On our next visit I ordered a meat strata and he got strawberry Nutella crapes. Once again the food was without fault. The coffee that's served is velvety smooth and nutty--just a really nice morning treat. As far as other treats go we've kept our willpower and haven't tried any of the assorted baked goods at the front. This place is really as good as it gets. While the space is small and the shopping center is less than attractive, their food more than makes up for it. I love that they rotate their menu items on a weekly basis. I've never ordered something here that I didn't like. Today it was a panini with roast beef, caramelized onions, mushrooms and swiss cheese with a side of the best horseradish sauce I've ever had. Their menu says the paninis come with a side of chips "unless we change our mind and decide to make potato salad instead." I'm so glad they changed their mind today because the potato salad was also some of the best I've ever had. The desserts are RIDICULOUSLY GOOD and so original. I believe they are all homemade. Today was the Kentucky Derby - a layer of pecan pie bar topped with rich, moist brownie. Also got the s'mores bar - best treat ever. The marshmallows were perfectly gooey and somehow they managed to keep the chocolate chunks from melting entirely, which I loved. I only wish the prices weren't so high and the portions so small. The roast beef panini above was something like $11 with just a small scoop of the potato salad. But the flavors at this local treasure are so good that you don't even mind paying so much. read more

My boyfriend and i were hoping to sit down to enjoy a nice relaxing breakfast on a rainy Saturday at The Buzz. A young man took our drink orders then the manager came to take our order. Right of the bat, the manager had an attitude with us. She seemed impatient and judging. A few minutes later, food was placed in front of us. Not thinking anything of it, we started to eat. Then she came up to us to tell us "You are eating the wrong food". So then when we get our right order, the young man who delivered it to us said "round 2" and my boyfriend laughed and apologized for the confusion. Then the manager blamed me and my boyfriend over someone else's mistake and told us it was our fault that the man who ordered that food had to wait. We did not do anything wrong and there was absolutely no need for the manager to blame and treat us the way that she did. We WILL NOT be returning after being mistreated by the manager. Hoping other people will catch on and realize how horrible these workers attitudes are. Y'all need to work on your KINDNESS :) read more

Scones, scones scones! Triple berry is the best. Staff are always helpful and pleasant. Breakfast/brunch is plentiful - go hungry because portions are generous. I'm really surprised by the recent rave reviews, to be honest. Makes me a tad suspicious. We've been going to The Buzz for years and the last several visits have left us so disappointed. Our most recent visit was a Saturday morning. The place was empty except for one other couple and it appeared that the decor had been scaled back to fit more tables (or at least fit the existing ones better). The effect was a bare, cold, somewhat shabby and tired looking room. Counters were dirty and there were crumbs everywhere. We expected their bakery choices to be plentiful (as they've always been in the past) but there were only 2 scone choices and a chocolate ganache brownie. The bakery shelves were littered with crumbs and smudges. We ordered our coffees (there were 4 of us) and they took FOREVER to come out. My coffee was cold before my husband's ever came out and both our coffees were finished before our daughter and her husband ever got theirs. It took 35 minutes to get a glass of water (reminder - there was only one other couple in the place) and the food (previously outstanding) was mediocre. The soup was way too thick and cold, kinda like it had been old leftovers. When they finally turned on some music it was so NOT appropriate for a coffee shop. There was only a disinterested teenager working along with a gentleman cooking. I would have expected a Saturday morning to be bustling and busy with a full bakery selection and the owner present and greeting guests and working alongside her staff, keeping standards up (as it has been in the past). We've tried going back so many times hoping each disappointing visit is a fluke but now it seems to have proven to be the new normal. Probably won't be returning. It's really such a shame as this was once our favorite go-to. read more

A friend and I recently went to The Buzz for breakfast. After placing our orders and relaxing with our coffee, I watched one of the employees come out from the kitchen, LICK HER FINGERS, wipe them on her apron, then handle food and serve it to other customers. The Buzz "Three strikes you're out!" Three times I've been to the buzz and have been disappointed. First, ordered cupcakes, very dry! Second, placed a takeout order and it was wrong, and third, made a special order for scones and it was also wrong. I came in expecting to be "wowed" only to find a total mess and disaster! Everything was out of order, and the place was too understaffed. This is no way to run a restaurant, kitchen or bakery. Also, the scones and coffee cakes where over baked, the food was mediocre, and the brownies came out of a freezer. No thanks, folks, I'll pass up the 3 day old twice frozen brownies. I have always used Yelp to find new places to eat but I have never left a review until now. We just moved to Mount Airy and we were looking for a quick bite on Sunday morning. Yelp led us to The Buzz. All I can say is Yum! My husband and I can't wait to go back. I had a delicious pumpkin spice latte (so much better than that chain) and my husband enjoyed his pumpkin pastry so much he ended up eating a chocolate one too! Great little place! Lots of coffee drink choices and the caramel macchiato I ordered was delicious! Tracey the owner was so friendly and made sure we knew all the food options were made with only fresh and seasonal ingredients. How anyone can say the owner is abusive to her customers and her employees is beyond me. I have seen the same employees working there for years, with smiles on their faces. And the owner, as busy as she is preparing food (not just soup and baked goods), does actually take the time to chat with her customers. As for the salads, I generally get one when I eat there (the soup/salad combo is one of my favorite things to order) and I have yet to see moldy fruit or anything that isn't completely fresh and flavorful. I have eaten there twice this week. Lucky me -- I got to savor the incredible beer cheese soup both times. The down-home atmosphere, an engaging menu (fun to read), coupled with truly gourmet food offerings, make this a must-go-to restaurant. I frequent The Buzz on a regular basis. Tracy does a great job of making it hard to make a selection each week because everything is so yummy! She changes the menu every 2 weeks, which I like because it gives me a chance to get my favorites more than once. I'm addicted to their triple berry scones. I always get 2 so that I can have one the next morning with my tea for breakfast. I typically go with my girlfriends to unwind for lunch. We are known to be there for 2 hours or more. Everyone that works there is so friendly and goes out of their way to make sure your time and food is enjoyable. I have had Minda and Tracy cater for me on two separate occasions and it was AMAZING! They catered my birthday tea party as well as Mother's Day. Everyone was so pleased with the different options, from fresh salads, to fresh seafood, and great brunch options. I will continue to frequent The Buzz even though it is COMPLETELY out of my way (30 min) and I have no other reason to be in the area. The Buzz is plenty of reason in and of itself.
