Delicious food and great atmosphere! Loved the king fish carpaccio! The ribs were tasty with a great glaze. The signature cocktail is a must try.

A girlfriend suggested this place. And I invited another friend along. Thought I'd better check with Yelpers. Wow, they gave it quite a bouquet of compliments. Let's hope that it lives up to expectation! We arrived 10.30 & needed to wait for a table to become available. I'd flagged with the others that we should have brunch here & not just a coffee, so we were seated accordingly. We were led to an airy table in the back area which was bordered on 2 sides with brick walls that housed a lush herb garden and I think some lemon trees. The service was fabulous. Rocco and his team were friendly, helpful & let you feel that they were there to make your dining experience as wonderful as they could. When the tea, latte & coffee came to the table we discovered there had been a minor mixup with my coffee order & that was swiftly fixed. And then a tasting plate of beetroot salad appeared as a way of 'apologizing for the coffee mixup' Where on this planet does that happen? Usually there's a sigh, a tolling of eyes & even a challenge to take a polygraph test if an order doesn't match what the waiter has brought!!! I'm as happy as, & we haven't even got to our food! The menu was a delight! What to choose, caus they all sound great???? One omelette, one Benedict with bacon, & my Pulled Pork Benedict. Everything looked great, but mine was Heavenly!!! I chose the best!!! I'm the winner!!!! One friend is going back for lunch tomorrow with her loved ones. That's what she said. Or perhaps she's ducking back to order pulled pork anything or simply to enjoy great service in a great spot. And she might see me there too!!!

i have been to this place three times now and each time has been underwhelming, considering the great reviews it has. although the service was good and the staff were friendly, we waited a really long time for the waitstaff to come over to see if we were ready to order, so we eventually had to call someone over (was about 15 minutes). the food was really nice but really was not worth the price. the eggs benedict was $23 and was a very small portion and only had 1 piece of bread. i finished the meal unsatisfied. overall, butchers block has a nice ambience and seating areas, the staff are friendly, but is ultimately quite underwhelming.

Wahroonga. Truly one of the most beautiful suburbs in Sydney, but its not really on the cutting edge of the food scene. Speaking of cutting edge, we went to this place for lunch. Its not cutting edge, but it is great, its a superb renovation of an old butchery with selectively retained treasures like...I'll give you one guess. The space is amazing, super slick. The Wahroonga matrons look a bit out of place, but it doesn't stop them from getting at least 50% of the seats. It should be full of younger people - its that kind of place. The food is very good, burgers, sliders, pasta. The servings are huge, consider sharing plates if you don't have the whole afternoon spare because your body will shut down for at least two hours to direct all its energy to digestion. Hopefully this place will shake the other places round here out of their complacency. The other places are just plain normal, and ordinary. This is a very welcome "cut above". We got told "the Block" (wanted to be the first to nickname it, maybe "Butchers"?) are waiting for a licence and will then open as a bar/ tapas joint - if so we will go as soon as we can. Check it out, its a very cool spot and its in a beautiful part of Sydney.

Review Highlights - The Butcher's Block

Their food is exceptional every time, personal favourites are the one pan bacon/eggs and the ricotta hotcakes, if you're up for something a bit sweeter.

Friendly and relaxed staff pump out coffees to the commuters and then keep the coffee flowing throughout the day. The service was fast and the coffee was delicious - they didn't bat an eye at strange orders such as quarter strength skim lattes and made a great soy fw. There were a few treats to try including the in vogue cruffin which was a sweet treat to help us through our afternoon. Well worth dropping in to grab a takeaway if you are traveling through the Hornsby train station.

"Shop" is a stretch - it's really more of a hole in the wall takeaway only kind of space, lovingly kitted out in tiles, timber, blackboards and big Edison bulbs. The sort of aesthetic that gives you hope. It doesn't disappoint. They make a damn fine coffee here, with good customer service to boot. None of that awful aloofness that typifies so many hipster-esque joints. They sell beautiful muffins and even Bircher muesli, but they do sell out. Hey, it's not like there's space for much stock, and coffee is certainly the priority. Will certainly go out of my way to get a coffee here in future, whenever I'm around Hornsby.

I am kind of amazed that yet another cafe would open up in this area given the existing mass of options already available but perhaps they have their own niche. Where the other cafes are quite large and serve a wider range of food options, this somewhat smaller cafe can focus more of the coffee. Given that this is their focus, it is great to find that they indeed make a great cup. Finally receiving a mac not overwhelmed with milk makes Fridley a happy camper. :-) Cafe Summary ------------------------ Passion for Coffee - 8/10 Coffee beans - Columbus Crema (1=burnt, 10=velvet) - 8/10 Special coffees avail? - N/A

Meet the new kid on the block…read more Columbus Coffee hails from New Zealand, a pretty far cry from the leafy surrounds of Wahroonga. But this Kiwi had better be ready for a dance off, for the village already boasts beans from Campos, Danes and Toby's Estate. They've started out well. The staff are relaxed, friendly and obviously proud of their product. They've also matched the (annoyingly) inflated Wahroonga prices. $4 for a large skim cap - would you ever pay that in the CBD? But Columbus also comes with some serious game. The coffee is silky smooth, with hints of caramel and its served at the perfect temperature. And while setting up next door to Pastadelli is a clear shot across the bow, I think Columbus might just have what it takes to conquer Wahroonga.

This is a very friendly family-run cafe with seating outside and in. I had scrambled eggs with sourdough toast and grilled tomatoes. I've had the same dish at other places, but this is my favorite because the toast wasn't over toasted to a crispy critter. The eggs were fluffy and a grilled tomato for breakfast really hits the spot. Another time when I came here, I had a perfectly poached egg and a delicious scone with jam and cream. I love the way scones in Australia are more like a tender biscuit rather than the hard triangle that passes for a scone in the States. With the jam, the whipped cream is just a bonus. Also, poached eggs are common, a healthier way to eat an egg. It's a bit out of the way towards the end of the outdoor mall, but we'll worth seeking out.

Back in the days before Toby's Estate became more mainstream, these guys had it as their go-to bean. Now that Toby's is more focused on mass production, Thyme Square has switched to Jack and the Bean coffee (another great option). As you know, having a good supply of coffee beans is only the first step in the production of an awesome cup of coffee, but I am happy to say that this cafe does a very decent job banging out cup after cup of great coffee. It must be mentioned that this cafe is also focused on having a wide range of food options [breakfast/lunch/dinner] (which are a tad pricey but compared to other options in Hornsby, might be worth it). As it has been a while since I have eaten here I will leave it to others to tell you what they think. When I was eating here though the standard was quite high.
