Tomato, cheese, chilli, avo egg etc on toast .. tasted good
    Billy E.

Got super keen to come here after seeing a post on Instagram of the crazy Hot Cakes with Berries and popcorn sprinkled all over it . My dad works in this neck of the woods and remembered trying the coffee here once cause they were handing out coffee vouchers at the shopping centre close by when they first opened their doors . I Decided to give this place a go this morning with a friend who lives close by. They're building a bridge over the water to Newington beside the cafe so there was alot of Construction going on but wasn't to hard to find cause there wasn't much open where they're located I got there about 9 so there wasn't many people there until at about 10ish. I ordered an extra long black & my friend had a flat white. I had to order the Over loaded Hot cakes seeing as I'm king Pin of dessert eating !! Also ordered a simple eggs with toast and my friend had the the tomato, cheese, avo, chilli etc on toast. Scrambled eggs on toast was tasty so was the dish my friend had !! Both Coffee's were not bad but nothing that was a stand out and the Over Loaded hot cakes in my opinion looked Amazing and had people beside me Gawking and pointing i want that haha.. but as they say lookscan be deceiving... i didn't like the Hot cakes much at all except for the Popcorn, Berries & caramelized Banana. But i have to admit that the staff were super friendly and helpful, smiling and chit chatting a bit, also that the Decor was nicely presented and comfortable . P.S. the food is not as bad as the guy in the review before me is decribing it, i can vouch that the breakfast meals were tasty but to stay clear of the hotcakes unless your after a cool photo !! As for the waiting time I'm guessing he might of came to this cafe in the middle of the day on the weekend.. if so what do you expect for the new hustle & bustle Neighborhood Rhodes lol !!

Left of Field, located on the water at Rhodes has been a popular café for a few years now. Ever since it opened, it has been buzzing with visitors. I visited early in its opening to sample the earl grey pancakes with popcorn and they have updated their menu regularly and I hence revisited to sample their new offerings. You must visit for the pancakes. These are not the kind of pancakes you can mix and flip yourself at home. These are the type that a super fluffy, yet crunchy on the outside and like a mix with a muffin. They are then sent into overdrive. The Pavlova pancakes are like no other. Topped with meringue crumbs, passionfruit coulis, pieces of kiwi fruit, strawberries and blueberries. On the top is a caramelized banana and served with a side of vanilla custard cream. They are begging to be devoured. And devoured we did. We urge you to keep an eye out for the winter menu as we hear a new pancake option that will be sure to be a hit. But we will leave the surprise to the them. We're also regular fans of a pannacotta. This version was a yoghurt panacotta and very creamy, it had just the right amount of wobble. Served with a beautiful roasted coconut granola with strawberries, blueberries, and toasted coconut. One of the best we've tasted. Although the sweet options were superb, we thought it would be good to sample a lunch option too and so we went for the Autumn Roast Vegetables - market veggies including beetroot, pumpkin on hummus with farro and hazelnut dukkah. You can also add chicken or haloumi to your dish. There's plenty of delicious sounding items on the menu: cheesesteak, fried chicken sandwich or the lof burger and you're set for the perfect lunch. The coffees are great too, we went for a cappuccino and an iced coffee. They have some sweet treats too - the ever popular butterbing cookies. It is also a licensed venue so you can enjoy a beer, wine or cider on your visit. The space has a light filled interior, clean styling and a sizeable outdoor area too. It is very welcoming and the staff are extremely hospitable and focused on A + service. The food came out as quick as we ordered, we were suitably impressed. Don't take our word for it. You must visit.

My husband and I chose LoF because of reviews online and we weren't disappointed. When we arrived at the front, we were greeted by a friendly guy, who offered a seat inside or out; we chose to sit it in, as it was windy. My first impression was, clean, inviting but the music and chatter was very loud, however it kind of disappears once you're chatting amongst yourselves. Once sat at our table we were greeted by Summer, the waitress, who brought the menu and chilled table water. I chose the Tomatoes, avo w Chilli and Lime on Sourdough, I asked for the cheese to be removed (no dramas) and added poached eggs. My husband chose this shortcakes with fruit and popcorn with a custard. We both had a skim FW. My dish was massive! With lots of flavoursome tomatoes and the poached eggs were amazing. A fantastic dish. The thing that stood out for me and this may sound silly but the waitress swapped my regular knife with a knife that had a serrated edge! No more shaking the whole table while trying to cut your sourdough 10/10. My husband's dish was huge and throughly enjoyable. A suggestion; allow guests to choose how many hot cakes to have, as 3 was a lot for one person. The coffee; my husband loved it. I thought it was a little bitter, but a small amount of sugar helped that. It was delicious. Definitely a place to go, great atmosphere, great staff, amazing food and coffee and a big plus: has its own bathroom!! It also serves alcohol, which is a rare thing for Rhodes! Definitely going to check this place out for dinner on an evening.
