My first time here hopefully not the last! Really enjoyed my breakfast at the Avenue. Got myself the Bombay breakfast, amazing choice the combination of what they put it goes so well together! Everyone should try this place for sure.

Avenue Road is one of my favourite cafes in Sydney. It is unpretentious and laid back with excellent service no matter what time of the day it is or how busy it can be. There are tables inside and outside running along the pavement as its quite nice to sit out on the pavement on a nice day but I love sitting on the green banquettes inside looking at pastel antique light fittings and upside down lamps on the roof. Paul Bassett is the choice of bean, he is renowned for winning the 2003 World Barista championships and to date is the only Australian to have won this title. He is also a brand ambassador for Sunbeam and was involved in the product development of their espresso machines. The menu is hearty and extensive as I have been known to have order the soup and the pork belly sandwich. Most of all I enjoy the sweet treats on offer and of course my creamy frothy skim Mocha. Avenue Road is pure quality.

Can't help but agree with Tereza B, this place is the best place for a good catch up as you can sit for hours inside or outside under the heaters watching the world go by. It has the advantage of being just off the main street too, so you won't feel the hustle of passers-by. The waiters and waitresses are so friendly you feel that this is your local almost instantly! I love the chicken sandwich they do here, it may sound unimaginative but they pack it with all the most delicious salad ingredients like tomato, avocado and rocket and the toasted bread is of top quality. Oo and the banana bread is as moreish as can be!

What's it called, what's it called? I took one taste of my soya mocha and had to rush to write this review. Oh my, oh my I've not tasted one this good in a long time. Soooo smooth, so real. The coffee is Double Roasted (the sell it in the café too). The chocolate is who-cares-coz-its-bloody-good - velvety and makes me want to get in to my dressing gown and cuddle up for a good movie... and then the caffeine hits and I want to dance on the tables to these funky house tunes playing here. I'm here at Monday brunch time. It's half full with middle aged to retired folk and I bet my bottom dollar that on the weekends it's filled with young professionals. This place is comfortably cool - the retro furnishings (upside down lamps shades hanging from the roof, the old school glass lights hanging in a chandelier like huddle, the jungle green wall sofas, the white chipped magazine stand, the simple wooden table and chairs, the bubbled glass above the giant white framed open windows, the wooden Australia cut out with the vintage spoons hanging from it. Gluten free toast available - yay :) Breaky picks: Bircher Muesli with date, apple and macadamia ($9) Pancakes with Canadian maple syrup, vanilla mascarpone and berry compote (14.50) Corn and Zucchini Fritters with roast tomato, bacon and haloumi ($16) Yum.

I like this place and come here every now and then. Nice, polite and welcoming staff and good coffee. They have one of the best Fruit salads I've ever tried.

Very generous portions and a much larger selection than anticipated. We will certainly return.

Mosman Village is abuzz with people on the weekend having been out for a walk with their dogs or families after their children's sporting match. Turn off the main strip into Avenue Road to this cafe and you won't be disappointed. Outside seating and a number of tables and couches inside. We sat in the corner of this cafe and were very comfortable, watching the crowds go by. The cafe was consistently busy but service was very efficient. The menu has typical brunch options like eggs, pancakes, bircher, banana bread and omelettes but also specials that are super interesting. The cafe has Indian and Thai inspiration and as such the foods boast these features. We ordered the palak eggs; like a baked eggs, but the bowl had slow cooked lamb and beans in a spiced cherry tomato sauce with spinach, feta, nuts and gremlolata, topped with poached eggs and two slices of toast. Nice flavours and a generous portion, different to your typical baked eggs. I ordered 'The Avenue Benedict' - Sourdough topped with crispy duck (which was delicious!!) and quince cauliflower couscous, apple cider vinegar hollandajse and poached eggs, well cooked, yolk running out as it should. We got coffees (double roasters) and the most beautiful latte art - fish!! Love it! I also had a mint, pineapple and apple juice which was really nice and fresh. I had briefly mentioned it was my husbands birthday and the lovely staff brought out a very fresh and tasty apple and berry muffin and a side of ice cream. The waitress even sang happy birthday!! I had an amazing caramel slice too. This is a great cafe that I highly recommend. The staff were extremely nice and a really comfortable cafe to enjoy your Saturday.

Now as L'Ami de Pain Boulangerie it's hard to try and miss the queues that line up for the coffee on weekdays and weekends. People are lining up for the selection of breads including their baguettes. Vibrant macroons are amongst their exquisite cakes as well as savouries from quiches, pies to sausage rolls on offer. A great addition for families in the corner playpen and the table with drawing paper and crayons an there is outdoor and indoor seating. The personalised service provided by Denis and Dom is second to none and it explains why this neighbourhood bakery has become of the most popular haunts for the locals.

To be honest I was extremely underwhelmed by this cafe. A few people have recommended this place, and as it is around the corner from my brother's I tend to come here often for takeout and dessert. But sadly with ever purchase, it is confirmed that this place is at best average. None of the food is overly fresh - not the quiches or the pies. Even their sandwiches are pre-made, and you can taste it. The dessert here is alright, but not great and nothing to boast about. The photos of the cakes and desserts order- made look amazing. So maybe that's why everyone raves about it. But if you are coming here for a quick bite, I honestly don't understand the charm. There are better places in Mosman or walking distance to Military Rd. I think Shot on Military is a million times better. Maybe that's just me. However, they are extremely kid friendly so maybe that's the appeal - because other than that I seriously don't understand why this is popular.

At Cafe Free you can indulge with an American diner style serving of gluten free waffles or enjoy a bacon and egg gluten free roll to feed your hangover. I'm proud to say I wasn't hungover when I visited Cafe free so I chose the waffle route - its not everyday you see waffles listed as gluten free on a menu. Ordering gluten free pancakes or waffles is usually disappointing as eateries struggle to create the fluffiness of normal pancakes. I am often faced with a small serving that is sparingly decorated whilst everyone else is enjoying a stack of buttermilk pancakes with banana, ice cream and maple syrup. Not fair. Cafe Free is exempt from this gluten free bias. To my delight I was greeted with an epic stack of waffles covered in caramelised banana, strawberries and decadent dollops of treacle butter. The waffles were thick and doughy (who knew something gluten free could be doughy?), the banana was perfectly crispy and THAT TREACLE BUTTER. The dollops were initially intimidating and I felt pretty guilty watching them melt amongst the grid of the waffle but I finished the whole plate. No regrets. I was full for the rest of the day but if you had to choose one meal to last you the day you want to make it waffles from Cafe Free. Outside of the waffle experience is a menu full of items that we are used to seeing as gluten full. At Cafe Free you'll find wraps that don't crack, gluten free Vegemite spread and a steak sandwich on the menu. Beyond their breakfast and lunch menu they offer $20 take home dinners and are looking at moving into the evening with tapas. There were also talk of gluten free lasagna - win. All of this is thanks to their Chef, Zoe, and her family and friends who have come together to provide a gluten and lactose free dining experience. On arrival I am greeted by Zoe's brother, Adam and am served by one of Zoe's friends and her mum. Even amongst people buzzing in and out for a late breakfast or takeaway coffee, you can really feel that family element. Speaking with Zoe I learnt about her seasonal menu and experimentation with the baked goods that are on display in store and on social media (so you can't escape that almond milk custard tart that you've been thinking about all week). There is certainly plenty to look forward to as Cafe Free grows. Watch this space.

It's a long ride and by the time I get there the sun is high in the sky and beating down on the earth like an abusive partner. We take our seats at the Siborg cafe, just around the corner from the main road, and therefore a little more conducive toward casual conversation. The waiter is very friendly and takes our drink orders, he brings us water. Sitting outside is a little windy, but the wind is soothing and cool compared to the sun and I am thankful for the multiple umbrellas propped up around me. I order an eggs benedict with salmon but ask for some greenery on the side, as the dish in its true form does not come with any. "Salmon with foliage" jokes the waiter. Classic waiter joke. It arrives with a side of spinach and it is delicious. My friend gets the big breakfast and I steal a mushroom. The mushroom is good, if not hot. Hot because it was stolen, by the time I get the courage for this fungal theft it is quite cool. Despite being so close to Military Road and even being able to see it from my vantage point, Siborg cafe has a relaxed and lazy (In a good way) atmosphere. It's situated on a paved walkway and the trees and bushes surrounding us are comforting and serene. We down some more water and get the bill.
