Very tasty food i have been living in Hamilton since 2001but never had this kind of food in my life

This location has become a lunchtime staple for us work from home types. Our new go-to order for 2 people is a whole Cubano sandwich and 2 soups, sides of carrots. Depending on the flavors and how hungry we are we get regular vs large. The soups are amazing as well as the grilled melty sandwiches and salads. Service is always excellent. There's a few tables to dine in as well with a cooler in the front with drinks. I appreciate the reasonable prices - I feel like it's hearty, flavorful and fresh good value food. read more

With multiple locations to choose from, Burnt Tongue knows how to serve soup all year round. I love the perfectly-sized menu for lunch, brunch, or dinner dining. There are options that surely will please any soup lover, especially during winter. While I was surprised to see few dairy-free options, I totally understand - non-dairy soups are definitely less fun. I ordered the cream of mushroom soup with the french onion sandwich, and boy were they delicious. The sandwich was grilled to the perfect temperature, texture, and melt, and the soup has chunks of mushroom - bless! A small restaurant but big on service and great food! We walked in tonight for the first time and they were very helpful, even proving me with a mask that I forgot at home. We went with the double burger, small fries, large tomato tortellini soup, the full sized grilled cheese sandwich, and two sodas. It came to about $32 which is a bit high, but the quality was outstanding. The large soup was very hearty with quite a few tortellini and tasted so good. The grilled cheese was delicious with the right amount of toasting. The double burger patties were thin but charred nicely with good flavor. The small fries were amazing, like coming from a chip truck, and they gave you lots. As we walked out, we ordered a carrot cake ice cream sandwich. It was "okay". I found the cream cheese ice cream far too sweet and the cake top and bottom too soft and generic tasting. read more

Stopped in on a stormy afternoon to grab a light lunch to go. My hubby got the French onion grilled cheese and I picked half grilled cheese with a cup of clam chowder and side of carrots. The grilled cheese was tasty, a solid classic. The clam chowder was yummy but I did wish it had a touch more salt to bring out the flavours just a bit more. Went here for lunch after strolling in the Royal Botanical Garden last weekend. This place was overpriced and underwhelming. The patty was way too salty and for a comparable price you would at least get fries at a chain like south st or hero. In fact you'd get better toppings and better flavours there. Their sandwiches were mostly bread and the meats, condiments, and toppings were severely lacking. The soup was too salty as well and didn't have much flavour other than sodium. Hearing they are a famous chain, I tried their lunch at this place. It was a pretty bad experience. Marketing as higher end burger place similar to South Street or hero burgers, they offer A&W quality at triple the price. A burger charged more than $10 was the same size as A&W's junior burger size. As a super small eater, I'm not full spending $20+. The burger was also overcooked, which highlighted their name "burnt tongue". I wouldn't recommend this chain restaurant to anyone. read more

I have been to the one on Locke Street and Westdale Village. Their food is on the lighter/healthier side--from soups to sandwiches to burgers, salads and fries, are incredible! I've had a variety of their soups, like chicken tortilla soup, creamy tomato & tortellini soup, creamy chicken wild rice & roasted mushroom soup. Like everything else I've had, their halloumi burger and single classic burger with cheese were prepared to perfection. While it's in season, try their baby arugula watermelon salad with feta. This is the second location of the local Hamiltonian chain and is one of the best places ever for good hearty soups. I love how the menu changes often so you almost dont get the same thing. I've had many types of soups here from the thick and creamy types to more liquid types. All very good. What they also really do good at is the grilled sandwiches and fries where the portions are just right (fries are large enough to be shared with others). This Locke Street location is bigger than the Cannon St one so if you are in the downtown area then consider this location. read more

I went today. I was greeted by an employee that was super friendly. The restaurant just changed their menu and I was struggling to pick a soup and Caitlin suggested I try a few and even helped me customize the one I had picked. She made our experience so amazing - I was there for my birthday having lunch and she even gave me a special sweet treat to tie it all together. I have NEVER had customer service like that in all my years and have been a server myself. She is in the right place, such a nice face to see when entering the restaurant and just over all a kind person. I hope to see Caitlin everytime I come :) read more

Every now and then I visit family in London and Windsor. The best part, aside from seeing family but even then it's really close, is that the Burnt Tongue is on the way. I've begun factoring in a lunch stop on my trips to Southern Ontario at this gem in Hamilton. The menu is simple. Around 5 soups- all awesome and they change every week I believe. On this occasion we tried the lamb stew and chilli con carne. Both were amazing and I can't decide which I liked better; get both. There is a burger on the menu, fries including the Thai inspired Bangkok fries, and some varieties of grilled cheese. I'm a grilled cheese and soup kinda guy and so I'd highly recommend that to balance your soup. At $4 for a grilled cheese sandwich you can't go wrong. After all, Tim Horton's is hawking a highly processed version for roughly the same price. This is a no brainer. Can't wait for the next family get together! read more

I have read many reviews about this place and they were always positive. In addition, this is one of the top rated spots in Hamilton. I decided that I had to try it out and it was worth it! The place is a cozy spot that specializes in soups. They change their soups menu daily and the prices are very good. The most expensive soups will cost about 8-10 dollars. I got one of their "b" soups in a small and it was excellent. I believe it was an African peanut soup. Very delicious. A small was enough for one person. I also got a sandwich. They cost about 9 dollars for a large and it is technically two sandwiches because they give you four diagonally cut sandwiches. They're so filling that I could barely finish the fourth piece. Trust me. Try this place out. It will be worth it read more

The classic recipe of New England Clam Chowder has gluten in it, but The Burn Tongue makes it GF (Bravo!) which we appreciate very much. Moreover, it was delicious with big chunks of clam and nicely presented HOT...admire it, chat a little and then blow, blow, taste, yummy. We also had some of the other daily specials and a regular fries and the loaded Dill pickle fries. Hand cut, made to order, served hot. Other patrons also enjoying their hot meals on a cold December day. If you're a soup lover, this is a must try. The Burnt Tongue is one of my favorite places to eat in all of Hamilton. Soup is hands down without a doubt my favorite food, so this place is like heaven for me. Always such interesting flavors and multicultural combinations of ingredients in their soups, and I don't think I've ever had one that was less than amazing. They don't make it very often, but their Irish Lamb Barley stew is one of the best soups I've ever had. I'm eating the Jamaican Beef Rib stew right now, too! Pretty much any cauliflower soup is delicious there and always sells out by the afternoon. The perfect pairing is their grilled cheese to go with the soup. I had been walking by this place for quite some time on Locke Street since I live so close - and finally decided to head there for lunch with my step dad. This place is basically a soup lovers dream. They have different soup options all the time - they change it up and come up with the most interesting concoctions! Vegans unite because they have options for you too! I ordered something along the lines of a potato soup, my step dad ordered a vegetable medley type soup (I'm horrible with names). We also split a grilled cheese - because grilled cheese and soup are literally soulmates! Everything came out lightening fast to our table. The grilled cheese was ooey-gooey and the cheese was melted just perfectly. Our soups were piping hot and both packed with flavour. I was so full at the end of the meal! The service was really friendly and they were informative about the different menu options. I went to this place a while ago, but it's still quite memorable. I wasn't sure how I would transition into eating in Hamilton, having been from Toronto, but this place didn't let me down. I got a butternut squash soup and the special for the day, which was banh mi fries. The soup was creamy and subtlety savoury; perfect for warming up on that cold, snowy night. The fries were much larger than I had anticipated, but were so good that I was glad to have some left to take home with me. I find the pricing to be fair for what you get. It's also very fun that they change up the menu so often. My issue with this location is that it's just too small! There was one table available for my 3 friends and I and not much else.
