Yelp says "dog friendly" not true even for service dog

Food was ok, small warmish portions for sampler platter with Big price, warmish limp burnt sweet potato fries, burned food and burned corn muffin, quick service, We had to order" to go" because they refused table service with our " small service dog" with marked harness even though it says dog friendly on yelp app..they suggested going somewhere else even though they only had 4 customers at the time Later, I realized she charged me $27.00 for the sampler platter instead of the $21.00 listed in menu...didn't drive back because she never gave me a receipt because.."paid cash" Will not go back or recommend to others unless they want to be ripped off!

Loaded Nachos w/ brisket. I had to order an extra side of brisket to make the meal worthwhile.

This restaurant has a Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde dilemma. The first time trying this restaurant out, the place was empty. The nachos sounded good and I would give it a solid 4/5 because there wasn't much brisket on it. Had to order a second side of brisket to make it perfect. Beef tender and juicy but the rest was nothing to write home about. I happened to eat dinner a few nights later, and oh boy it was a mistake. There was only one waitress, and one hostess while the whole place was packed. I decided to order the chicken burger with a side of coleslaw. The meat was rubbery and tough to chew. There was little topics or seasoning and this bland meal. Coleslaw tasted like it had been left out of the refrigerator for several. My table also ordered the onion rings. Those were hot and decent. Overall, I am disappointed in the lack of consistency. TLDR- Pick the brisket, skip the chicken.

I was driving through town & I wanted something good for lunch. I saw the good reviews this spot had so I had to stop in. I'm glad I did! I wasn't sure which meat I wanted in my sandwich so I went with The Big Ray, which has 3 meats in it! It was juicy & flavorful, especially when I topped it with their mustard BBQ sauce! The only constructive criticism I'd give is that I think the onion ring order was light; I think another 3-4 rings would of been perfect.

Loved the building but food was disappointing. Ribs were dry, didn't like the taste of the pulled pork, potato salad sounded really good but was bland, so was the cornbread muffin. I really hoped this was a great place. Sorry, but the food needs more seasoning. Ice tea was subpar. :( service was good though.

My mom and I came here on a Sunday afternoon and the food was amazing. There were a lot of ppl there and only 2 waitresses. They were both nice and let us know they were making drinks. We're not from around there and appreciated the friendliness off the staff. Food was pretty good. I still think about the sweet potato fries. Def have to get those with the sweet sauce it comes with. The brisket was a little dry. Maybe cause it was the end of the day but none the less it was good!! Good food good prices!!

    Motorcycle ride creates hunger...

We stopped in while motorcycle riding, to get a bite to eat. Hubby had the pulled pork sandwich. I'm gonna say it was pretty good, 'cause there wasn't a whole lot of talkin' goin' on from his side of the table. I had (get this!) the turkey sandwich, with no bread, no bacon, no cheese, no notta. Not sure why they don't serve the turkey as one of their meats, but this was my way of gettin' around that. And their smoked turkey? It's GREAT!!! I wanted green bean for my side, but they didn't have any. Since they only offer a mayo based slaw, I wasn't interested in it. I asked about a side salad or soup, but it was gonna be an up-charge. Really? So, I gave my side to my husband. He ordered the baked beans and the coleslaw. Once again, only eatin' noises from that side of the table. All in all, an enjoyable meal (and quiet).

Barbecue variety the top one is pork steak very good never had this before

I had the brisket and it was a little too lean for my taste. The Mac and cheese was okay but their bbq sauce was good.

My research brought me here to Pappy's. I'm very glad it did. Ambiance starts with a line out the door, literally. You slowly shuffle down a long hallway full of Pappy's memorabilia. Then you make it to the ordering counter, order, and find a table. The dining room is huge, plenty of tables, with a full complement of sauces on each table. The service people at the counter were friendly, and so were the people delivering the food. The food came out quick and hot and delicious. We had baked beans and potato salad for sides, and they were pretty solid. Nothing show-stealing, but no complaints about them whatsoever. And of course, we got the ribs. Tender, juicy, a nice bite and chew, a decent bark, just a really wonderful rib. Better than any St. Louis style rib I've ever had back home in Florida. Other states, hard to say, the jury's out, but in that moment, I was eating a five-star rib. So good. We also got a 1/4 pound of the Burnt Ends. Usually, burnt ends are the king of meats, but I think we've entered the phase of America, where they're just another variety of meat and not necessarily upper echelon anymore. That being said, these were pretty ok. Should have gotten more ribs. Overall, Pappy's was pretty wow. Great local spot with a lot of pride and history, excellent ribs, I will definitely try to come back next time I'm in town.

It's not hard to see why The Food Network rated Pappy's as the "#1 rib joint in the country", as this place is next level bbq. You can smell the bbq from down the street and it will instantly make you hungry, even if you just ate... The place has the "cool bbq joint vibes", the employees are ultra-friendly, and it's fair/reasonable priced based on the quality of the food (runs between $40-50 for two people). Strongly recommend getting ribs, but their smoked chicken and turkey are outstanding as well. I didn't love their original bbq sauce (it was too thick and sweet with a heavy molasses flavor), but the hoodoo spicy sauce was out of this world. I would put Pappy's up against some of the other big named bbq joints in the country and they'd hold their own... Definitely worth the stop when in STL.

The brisket was tender, but not covered in grease. The mac-n-cheese was actually flavorful - most mnc's are just bland noodles with cheese - not the case at all at Wally's. "What on earth is honey mustard potato salad?" Oh, only the best potato salad you'll ever eat in your life, if you like honey mustard. The baked beans had a chili flavor to them without compromising the bbq sweet you want from baked beans. The poppy seed slaw wasn't just covered in mayo, it was actually refreshing and a nice complimentary side to the uber flavorful bbq mains. And the homemade ice cream was insane alongside the bread pudding. It's a bummer someplace like this is in the middle of nowhere and not closer to more people. But that seems to be part of what Wally wants: home cooking done the right way. Not just "grandmas style" that only appeals to a niche group of people. Wally has crafted his food to be enjoyed by all who happen upon this tiny "diner" along Route 3. Make it a trip and wander past Red Bud and Ruma and get you some Wally's. The menu isn't stacked full of options, but what is on the menu will instantly transport you back to a place where your pallet didn't understand what "food for convenience" was. First time...so went withh the sampler at $18 and most of their meats are included except the pork steak (makes sense to me since that's usually a separate feature in these parts along with Kentucky). It was three of us and we were given the heads up that the sampler can feed two. Figured we could start with that and order more. The order was a very generous helping of two large rib tips, two pork rib bones, two wing pieces, and pulled chicken, pork, and chopped brisket. Our choice of two sides were slaw and mac & cheese. Three buns were thrown in given the three of us in the party (thanks for the flex). Local bottled Big Muddy root beer is the same $1.50 as the can sodas in the case and it is made with honey and cane sugar. Of the things I tried, I thought the rib tips were excellent - smoked pink and moist - got a meaty piece with only a small piece of cartilage. The chopped brisket isn't my thing - I prefer sliced. My daughter said the ribs were great (figured would be as good as the tips). The wings I believe were smoked too rather than grilled and the taste from the rub/marinade wasn't something I was familiar with. Tender and not dry. Pulled pork and chicken were solid. We still had leftovers - so I'll get my chance to try the ribs and focus on the flavor of the wing. Will have to get the pork steak next time and order plates next time focusing on our faves. Roomy dining area with some tables near the windows. It was getting warm out there so having plenty of indoor seating on a quieter Thursday lunch was welcome over overflow seating outside at the covered picnic tables.

Oh - and the food is usually fine, except no fried okra. Pat's is not in a city. It's outside a small southern Illinois town. Pretty far outside, in fact, which is where true BBQ is supposed to be located. The parking lot is gravel. The only pickups there belong to customers, and their worth is more in the range of $12,000, except to their owners, who use them as trucks. And the sign is a sign. It tells you where you are. Oh, wait - there are BBQ competition trophies in the entryway. Stand and marvel. There are more inside. Marvel more. Because other than these and some pics of family and locals and celebrities I didn't recognize on the walls, that's about it for decoration. Stare at the menu, menu board and signs. Pay attention to the happy person behind the counter when she tells you what they're out of, because the best BBQ places are out of something you want. Note the teasing banter between local customers and the kitchen staff, because everyone knows someone back there. And order. We got the pulled pork plate. My sister got potato salad and green beans. I got the fries. I got the local(?) root beer. They don't do fried okra, but this IS the Midwest. It all came to our table in a reasonable amount of time. The BBQ sauce came in a cup on the side. Ketchup was brought to us. So why only four stars? Everything was perfect, right? And prizewinning? Yeah, but BBQ is personal. Everyone has an opinion. I lived in northern Alabama, which styles itself as BBQ Country. As does Texas and Kansas City and Memphis and everywhere. Pat's, much beloved by regulars for its mild smokiness, juicy juicy soft texture and other features, seemed a bit too mild and even soggy to me. I know - I have no taste. And it was good. Just not five stars great. And not enough sauce in the container, though I could have gotten up to ask for more. And the potato salad was fine and the fries a little too starchy, but only a little. That said, the beans were the wonderful dark green juicy soft salty ones that are too ... wonderful. Get those. The root beer, brewed with honey, y'all, was the best ever. Get that, too. The dessert was what they were out of, dang it! Overall the experience was just great. Someplace to go back to. And you should go there.

I had never had brisket before having that sandwich, now my mouth waters any time I talk about this restaurant! The cole slaw that I had as a side provided the perfect crunch and balance. My mate had the pulled pork sandwich, which was also very tender. I also loved having a variety of barbecue sauces on the table and was able to try each one. Everyone has a preference, I'm sure, but after trying each one, I am completely sold on the Carolina gold. The giant pig statue in front of the restaurant was actually quite informative, as it described where the meat comes from on a pig. Anyway, as I entered the restaurant, I stood in line. It was quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. There are long tables with many seats, so seating wasn't an issue. It is a first come first served dining situation. I ordered the 2-meat plate: brisket, ribs, baked beans, and potato salad. The brisket and the sides were definitely my favorite parts. The brisket was so tender, it basically fell apart in my hands! It was delicious! The baked beans were tangy and sweet, and the potato salad was creamy. I didn't like the ribs, they were very dry and definitely not worth the money. The barbecue sauces are in bottles on the table; my personal favorite was the Honey Badger, sweet with a little bit of heat. I found the Coffee BBQ sauce to be the most interesting; I have never had anything like it before. The coffee notes were subtle and helped balance out the smoky flavors. While I enjoyed the majority of my food, I am not sure if I will be returning. It was a nice experience, but the dry ribs left me feeling disappointed.
