So I decided to check out what else is here. Smish Smash seems to be the only thing open for dinner so I gave it a try. We ordered the cheeseboiga (I said cheese burger when I ordered it and they corrected me haha), Fish Dac Biet, and Beef Tallow Shoestring Fries. The cheeseboiga is tasty and a good replacement for shake shack since the location in downtown closed. The buns were fluffy and the patty was smashed real thin. The Fish Dac Biet I prefered over the smash burger. The fish was fried nicely and is huge! You can't really see how big it was in the special menu but it was massive, a long filet. It had really good vietnamese flavors with the pho aioli and it went well with the jalapenos, cilantro, Thai basil, and alfalfa sprouts. The jalapeños were all lumped in the middle of the sandwhich though, it was a crazy bite. Only thing is that this takes a while to be made. I was originally quoted a 10 minute wait time but it ended up taking a little over 20 minutes for my food to be ready. The star of the show is the Beef Tallow Shoestring Fries! It came out nice and hot and crispy. The beef tallow enhances the fries flavors tremendously and this is how fries should taste. Wish I had ordered a beer at the bar because this would go great with a drink. Overall great casual place to eat in the area.

This time, we got a dozen bagels: 8 egg everything and 5 salt (the do 13 bagels in a dozen there) We got their seasonal "garleek" spread and the "pickled onion and caper" spread. Both were fantastic. The wait wasn't too bad - we killed time by walking around the neighborhood - and we were finally seated around 6 PM. We couldn't decide on what to order so went with our server's recommendation of the mushroom pizza, and we split the kale salad to round out the meal. The kale salad was tossed with so much dressing that it resembled more of a slaw than a salad. The pizza came out next, and this was the star of the show. I've had mushroom pizza before, but nothing quite compares to The Laundromat's thick yet crispy sourdough-like crust topped with gooey cheese and buttery chanterelles. A couple of slices was more than enough for me, but the pizza reheated nicely the next day. Ambiance-wise, my friend and I were seated far apart from each other at a large table, and the restaurant was really noisy on top of that, so we had a difficult time hearing each other during our dinner conversation. Overall, though, I really enjoyed The Laundromat's pizza and would come back to try the other varieties or swing by earlier in the day for their popular bagels.

The bun was very good, and I really liked that they use fresh, regular lettuce rather than shredded lettuce. Raw yellow onions, cheddar cheese, tomato, and the sauce all tasted fresh and well balanced. The service was sweet, friendly, and welcoming. And those tallow fries! Amazing. Proper neighborhood burger-joint fries: crispy, flavorful, and satisfying without trying to be fancy. Everything is straightforward, affordable, and great value for what you get. No gimmicks, no unnecessary fuss, just a really good burger, great fries, and friendly service. An honest neighborhood burger joint. Exactly what West Portal needs.

Might have gotten soggy during transportation. The burger itself tastes like a burger I'd make at home. Maybe it's healthy?? Haha What saved my experience was probably the shoestring fries. They gave you a very generous amount of fries for cheap! Maybe I'll come back to try to dine in. But for now, I'll pass on this spot.
