I actually look forward to eating these as opposed to the somewhat bland other delivery services I've tried. I don't understand the bad reviews-- the app is much more user-friendly so try that. I have had no problems with availability, adding or changing items to my order, and the freshness. For people saying "unclear billing" they have a Charges tab that shows exactly what you're being billed for delineated by item... I signed up for Thistle accidentally while comparing meal plans. I loved Daily Harvest back when they offered more than smoothies and was hoping for something similar. The food was decent, but the packaging was a dealbreaker. Every single item comes in a non-reusable plastic container. Even setting aside environmental concerns, the sheer volume of waste was unmanageable: my garbage goes out every other week and was already full. The cost also didn't pencil out. Even with the discount, Thistle ran more than what I currently spend eating out for the same number of meals, and it didn't reduce my grocery bill either. read more

My husband and I have been a Thistle member on and off for a few years. The food is always delicious and has nice variety of healthy options. But that is where the postive things ends. I have canceled my membership multiple times due to the terrible order fulfillment. There was a good stretch for a few months where all seemed to be going smooth but yet again a week has gone by where my order is not missing multiple items. Or if I have received my full order, ingredients are completely missing from the meal. Their order fulfillment is absolutely horrendous. And while they are always prompt at responding via customer service and offering refunds, I am left disappointed every week. I recently reinstated my subscription hoping it had improved in the past year, all my deliveries since I reinstated have been wrong or missing items. Love Thistle! It's been a mainstay for 2+ years. The food is HEALTHY, TASTY, FAST, EASY, and AFFORDABLE. I get the Vegan dinners for $14 (most expensive item) and use them for lunch. They have a huge variety of fresh stuff. But cooking it always the same: put it in a pan for 4 minutes. I have it to a science, I can cook it while getting other stuff ready... its done, wipe the pan and cleanup is done too. I have tried several other services, they are more expensive and not as convenient. Thistle delivers twice a week, so the meals are very fresh. You don't need alot of preservatives when the food if fresh. And their sauces give it flavor w/o a bunch of salt or fat. Unfortunately my husband and I each got food poisoning from Thistle.. I gave my first food poisoning experience the benefit of the doubt, but when my husband got it, I immediately cancelled. Even though I liked the convenience and health focused recipes, food poisening is a full 100% stop. I'm considering contacting the health department because it seems like this is an issue for others as well (a few reddit threads on the issue). I initially appreciated the delivery service however I very quickly got tired of the the food as everything seemed to taste the same. The reason I'm giving it only 2 stars however is due to the fact that they make it DIFFICULT TO CANCEL. They also don't send you a message weekly reminding you to update your cart for your next delivery, which would also alert you if you needed to cancel for that week. I had a subscription years ago. It's been over 5 years since my subscription was active. I recently thought about reactivating it. I have since moved and wasn't sure if they delivered to my area so I changed my address in my account settings with them. I did not take any other actions. I never selected a meal plan or affirmed a re-activation. All I did was change my address. I never received any confirmation email or any other indication that I had signed up again. To the contrary, I'm still receiving emails offering discounts if I re-activate my subscription. Despite that fact, I just found out that I actually got charged for a new subscription and have a delivery coming this week. I'm not prepared for a delivery so now I will have food waste, and I didn't budget for a renewed subscription yet. Apparently just changing my address in the settings reactivated my subscription. Worse, even though they say they canceled one future delivery, I haven't received a full refund and all future deliveries are still scheduled. There's no way to cancel online without going week by week and Thistle is refusing to help or take accountability. Be careful with this company! read more

Thistle's website is confusing and misleading. I was billed for a week I never signed up for, the student discount wouldn't apply, and support gave me no real help. I canceled right away. Customers deserve clearer billing and better service. Be aware... if you sign up and didnt agree to a week. They will apparently automatically bill you, with no food modifications, and will not give you a refund. Dont even add your card information because they bill you right away. read more

The ability to choose your items is an illusion. they send whatever they want with no regard for your selection process. While I appreciate that they accommodate allergies (which many other services do not) unfortunately the food quality was just too poor to eat for most dishes, and those which were edible were basically flavorless. The chicken in all of the dishes had an odd smell of wet dog and tasted like cardboard. The vegan meals weren't much better. Thistle had been my first experience with a delivery service and their food is bland and doesn't have a lot of variety; I get at least one marketing email a week from them but don't get any reminders about time left to edit my weekly meal choices or skip a delivery; their website does not clearly explain the process and what meals are scheduled for my delivery , how I can change and/or add meals (and that this changes your price). The food delivery was good at first. You get tired of it quickly. They often use the same veggies over and over in dishes. I need a long break from Spinach! The customer service was terrible. I cancelled my account and when I did they do not provide any confirmation email or number with that. One month after cancelling the account I had food delivered. I cancelled again (still no confirmation email/number) and contact customer support. They refused to return my fee's I was charged, stating I had the food delivered. I explained I never ordered it and it should have already been cancelled. I was out of town during delivery and it was spoiled when I returned so couldn't even partake if I wanted to. I am new to Thistle, but have had nothing but great experiences so far. I've been using them for about 3 weeks. Positives: meals are healthy, fresh, and very easy to heat up and eat. Everything has a vegetarian option. Wonderful variety of cuisines. The website is easy to use and honestly fun. I look forward to the new meals being released every Monday and customizing them. I even look forward to rating each meal, for some reason. Negatives: they rely on chickpeas, tofu, and butternut squash too much. I've seen others online say the same thing and I'm concerned this is intentional and fraudulent. However, this happened EVERY time I logged back into the website--all future deliveries I held were rescheduled. This feels very suspicious to me. Really like a lot of the meals but the repeat issues with Quality Control are close to ruining the experience. Cannot count the number of times a meal is missing. The inability to reach customer service real time is also frustrating; they have no ability to correct / re-deliver and the idea that they credit the bare minimum is also disappointing for repeat problems. They should offer drop shipping to a location for pickup -- although that would not help the inability of their staff to confirm order is correct before it leaves. Not sure if this is the driver who is meant to check or if they have dedicated staff on the QC job -- either way they need to get this in hand or no one will continue to use them. read more

I am obsessed! However I meant this review for the Los Angeles Thistle but anyway : Most items are delish , there were only a few I was not crazy about but still ate it or my husband liked it. I have been on it now for 2.5 weeks and every time i get the " green bag " i get so excited. I do not order too many of the breakfasts , some , like the puerto rican rice with beans - for breakfast - is a bit weird for me.... also a smoothie is not enough for me for breakfast - however i been ordering the smoothies as a dessert ( don't tell lol ) I do not eat beef , veal, pork, lamb etc but i do eat birds so I been ordering a lot of their items with the chicken or turkey . My husband is not a HUGE meat eater but he IS a meat eater ( when I say not huge I mean he would pick seafood over meat ) but he does eat meat on a reg basis and eats pork and beef, salamis and sausages - however I was able to get him to share most of the meals with me. On one occasion I thought we " share a salad " but 5 min later it was goooone and gobbled up by him ( he ate a rotisserie chicken with it we got from Costco) . I have Lupus and i shall be on a non inflammatory diet and I have never eaten this many salads before - i tried to buy them at Trader Joes and do a salad week etc but after a week I got tired of the same rotation - with Thistle - every bag is sort of a surprise ( I do esit the orders ) but the flavors are a surprise !! I would love for this company to thrive and do well. The food is amazing and being on a plant-based diet I can actually eat a ton of food with lots of variety. Unfortunately, I have experienced similar delivery let-downs. Orders don't show up or arrive unexpectedly when I am not around to take the orders. No one wants their food sitting on their porch all day. I also have been trying to get my money refunded only to be given a credit to an account that was canceled and then adjusted to $25.00 without any of my money refunded. Second time in a week that Thistle screwed up our delivery! We got a message that says delivery will come soon only to get another one minutes later that says it's cancelled for no reason. Earlier this week we only got half of our order. We like the food a lot but the operations are horrible, and we can't rely on it due to inconsistency with delivery. So my doctor told me it was time for me to eat more plant based foods and I tried two or three delivery services and they were either way too much work than they were worth or portions were super small. Thistle is fresh food - so beware on that if you don't eat it right away you are throwing it out so only order what you know you will eat. I've been surprisingly happy with Thistle, as I never really thought I'd be a meal delivery person. But it's kind of everything I want--healthy and fresh food that's either ready to eat or only takes a couple minutes to heat up. I really appreciate the style of food--vegan with the option for animal protein--as it's not too heavy and makes you feel good after eating it. Basically exactly what I want for a quick and healthy meal at home without having to get takeout or otherwise assemble a whole bunch of ingredients at home. I'm pretty picky, but I manage to find enough meals most weeks that I'm extremely happy with. Some of their logistics need a bit of work--we've gotten wrong meals, missing meals, or missing main ingredients in meals, and they're not the most generous when compensating you for these issues. I also wish they sent receipts each week for the meals, as I've had to create my own tracking system by taking screenshots of the meals we ordered each week. Also wish they'd let you have multiple profiles online, as it's hard to keep track of who ordered what and our reviews of the meals afterward (since the meals do recycle after a few weeks).
