I've been surprisingly happy with Thistle, as I never really thought I'd be a meal delivery person. But it's kind of everything I want--healthy and fresh food that's either ready to eat or only takes a couple minutes to heat up. I really appreciate the style of food--vegan with the option for animal protein--as it's not too heavy and makes you feel good after eating it. Basically exactly what I want for a quick and healthy meal at home without having to get takeout or otherwise assemble a whole bunch of ingredients at home. I'm pretty picky, but I manage to find enough meals most weeks that I'm extremely happy with. Some of their logistics need a bit of work--we've gotten wrong meals, missing meals, or missing main ingredients in meals, and they're not the most generous when compensating you for these issues. I also wish they sent receipts each week for the meals, as I've had to create my own tracking system by taking screenshots of the meals we ordered each week. Also wish they'd let you have multiple profiles online, as it's hard to keep track of who ordered what and our reviews of the meals afterward (since the meals do recycle after a few weeks). But otherwise I'm really quite happy with them, and plan to continue using them for the foreseeable future. read more

Driver stole my neighbor's Amazon packages. This is right after they mis-delivered Thistle's food package to my door which actually belongs to another neighbor down the street. One word - diarrhea. Two words - food poisoning. Three words - I am canceling. Food went bad several times. Sometimes the food was tipped and leaking in the bag. The curries always came with the sauce mixed in when I think it should be separated to avoid spoilage. The ice is in the wrong place in the bag causing food to spoil during transportation. The only good thing they have going for them is Instagram marketing and maybe the tasty sauces. I loved it until I had to make love to my toilet. read more

I got one of the Moroccan salads as one of the salads in my plan. It was okay. At this price point, I highly prefer SweetGreen instead of here. The flavors were okay, but at the price point you pay, it really isn't worth it. The main point of Thistle is the delivery. read more

They really need to work on their order accuracy here. I'm a new customer and have received so far three deliveries. Two out of the three deliveries were missing items! read more

I really enjoyed their meals, and I liked the variety and the flavor. The reason why I'm giving it two stars is because of the delivery. I started ordering weekly from them in January, and I had had consistently missed deliveries. The problem has just been escalating and not improving. It's been so bad that I've had 2 weeks of missed deliveries that I went ahead and canceled my account today. Their inconsistent delivery defeats the purpose of having a plan with them and relying on their meals for the week. I'm leaving this review because I'm hoping someone can address this issue because there's a lot of potential for this business, yet the customer service just gives me generic responses. It is not a cheap meal delivery service, and the consistently missed deliveries just make it not worth it. read more

UNRELIABLE DELIVERY SERVICE. Thistle meals themselves are pretty good so thats why I am not giving only 1 star. I also like their juices a lot. BUT, their delivery service however is HORRIBLE and so consistently unreliable. Correct me if I am wrong but most people sign up for a meal service because they don't have the time to buy groceries and cook healthy meals for themselves, right!? I don't buy groceries because I rely on Thistle for 2 meals a day M-F. Well.. you will be left without any food to eat if you sign up with Thistle because they have such a hard time delivering meals on time or even at all. Only about 40% of my orders have come within the delivery window I have selected. A couple times they will say the delivery is late but on its way, then I receive a text message WITHIN THE SAME MINUTE letting me know my order is cancelled because they could not deliver (see attached photo and keep in mind that my delivery window is 6am-8am and their first text to me regarding my delivery was at 12:56pm). I have also experienced issues where they just leave my order sitting out on the sidewalk in front of my apt gate instead of trying to buzz in to deliver it in front my apt door.. I live in SF where there is a high chance of the order being stolen from outside of my building. There are plenty of reviews that state the same things I am complaining about and they still haven't gotten it figured out yet. I am giving Sun Basket a try because I am so sick of being left with nothing to eat when I have already paid for Thistle meals that never arrive on time. read more

What is the point of eating vegan with this much waste? Single use plastic packaging for every item and an ice pack for each delivery which they will not re-use! The salads were fine. Definitely healthy but not the best quality ingredients- tasteless blueberries, undercooked beans. I would pay up to $10 for one of the vegan salads, not $14-15 as they are priced. I was thinking of using this service for busy work from home weeks, but disappointed with the quality of ingredients and the waste involved. For my last delivery I left instructions to take the cooler and just leave the food which weren't followed so now I'm left with the extra waste of a cooler that I don't need. read more

This is a review of the errored delivery service and no ability to speak with a customer service rep. If your delivery is in error or not delivered at all, Thistle only offers a credit on future deliveries and not a refund to your credit card. Thistle has errored on the last two deliveries and I have no confidence in their ability to correct this going forward. As such, their credits are meaningless if they continue to not deliver to the correct location. read more

Bait & Switch Marketing: MUST READ On Dec 9th, 2021, I signed up for Thistle with a $200 off over 8 weeks offer, but I got $100 over 4 weeks. So I emailed customer service, and they said the offer expired on Dec 7th, so basically, their marketing team messed up. They said I'd get $100 over 4 weeks even after acknowledging they messed up. I canceled my order immediately. I can't believe this company's founders are Indians. Stop taking orders and get your act together. Update: 2 Hrs after I wrote the above review, the same customer service rep gave me a call, and as soon as he mentioned this Yelp review. I told him, "You already lost me; never contact me again." I don't care what you have to say now. But, if you can't honor your offers after admitting you messed up, then you deserve to lose customers. PRO TIP for everyone: If you stopped using their service, make sure to email their customer service to delete your account, and tell them to make sure they don't email you in the future, and also delete all your data that they were probably going to sell for millions. Ask them to send you written confirmation via mail/email. read more

Thistle doesn't have their logistics figured out. Worse, they don't have problem solving or giving a poop about customers figured out. So when you sign up with Thistle, get ready to make their problems your problem. I have filed a complaint with the BBB. Weeks back, the drivers stopped retrieving their bags and ice packs when they dropped off new ones. I alerted the business, they did nothing, nothing changed. As the pile of bags on my porch grew, I sent a strongly-worded warning that I'd have to cancel if they can't pick up their bags. I received a reply from a nice CS agent, the first of several over a few weeks. Oh, what a correspondence we had! There were several promises to pick up that weren't met. I canceled the service for fear of increasing the pile of bags even further and finally asked to hear from a supervisor. Seven days later, he let me know that they only pick up bags from current customers. Even though the only reason I'm not a current customer is that they don't pick up their bags. The food is good. Lots of lentils and beans which isn't a realistic lunch every day, but I'd still be with them if they'd solve their problems. Make no mistake, though: THEY CAN'T. Silver lining: I'm now using Daily Harvest which is way tastier, though it is frozen, and I've experienced no issues read more

I have been a Thistle customer on & off since 2017. During the pandemic, I really kicked up my orders and used Thistle for many months at a time, taking small breaks in between. I'm going to outline some learnings, pros and cons to paint a full picture. Learnings: - Pre-packaged food delivery services aren't for everyone. And the need for services like this (at least for me) comes in waves. There are times in your life where you may want to use a service like Thistle, and other times where it won't be worth it or as useful. Lean on services like Thistle when you could use some extra help in life. I've primarily leaned on Thistle when I've had an insane work schedule and less time to cook or I'm going through a tough time or struggling with depression and the thought of grocery shopping and cooking sounds like too much. - Try different items and figure out what's worth it to you. To me, the breakfast items are not worth it -- I prefer simple breakfasts I can make at home for way less. Sometimes the lunches are worth it, sometimes not. In my opinion, Thistle's main value prop lies in the easy to prep dinners. The juices and snacks are pretty great too. - Be home during your delivery if possible, and be very clear with instructions. Complain immediately if there are delivery issues. - Take breaks from consistently using this service. The meals start to repeat and feel old and boring after a while. Plus, your pocket can use the break. Pros: - Very healthy food that encourages me to eat less meat - Diverse offerings with unique flavors - 90% of the meals are very delicious - The curries and items with plantains are particularly delicious - Relatively easy to use website + app, and cancellation + pause functions - Extremely easy to prepare (if prep is even needed) - They do a pretty good job on the packaging compared to services like Blue Apron and Hello Fresh Cons: - Expensive!!! This has gotten worse over time. - Delivery issues can definitely happen -- I think its a luck of the draw based on where you live and what your set-up is. I've been mostly lucky, but a few instances have occurred (stolen food, didn't show up, etc.) - There is some room for improvement on the website / app in terms of selecting your upcoming meals -- I feel like the interface could be more intuitive / easier to bulk adjust - 10% of the meals are unimaginative, boring, or just plain gross - They use a lot of rice -- this sometimes gets boring - Some of the salads with quinoa, lentils, and over-vinegary dressings are really not good - I've had a few instances where the packaging was messed up and an item was leaking or looked like it had popped open during delivery -- not good Overall, I think Thistle is a great company with delicious food. These meals have helped me through some tough times. They kept me eating healthy when I was feeling down, alone, lazy, stressed, busy, etc. I know without these easy to prep Thistle meals, I would've opted for junk food in these moments. Thank you, Thistle, for having such nourishing food. Please reduce your prices though :) read more

This is a solid meal delivery service for extra healthy, vegan food. Some of the meals were yuck, but most were 4 stars. There were a couple of 5 star meals I would happily eat again. Dinners feel more worth the money than the everyday lunch salads. However the beet and the pistachio cherry salads are delicious. If you are super healthy this is for you. I would still order them once in a while when I want a clean eating week. Otherwise it's a bit too healthy and vegan for my family. read more

I'm a huge fan of Thistle. The food is tasty, fresh, and varied. I feel like I'm finally able to eat as healthily as I want to. I ate pretty healthy food before, but I wasn't getting the variety that's optimal. It feels like I have a personal chef with Thistle. I've found the customer service to be excellent. When I've had an issue come up (a rare occurrence), staff have been kind and helpful. I'd love for the food containers to be reusable, not just recyclable, but that's tough to do logistically. Regardless, I'm so happy they exist and greatly appreciate the effort toward being nutritious, flavorful, and having sustainability as a value. read more

I tried Thistle for about 3 months and enjoyed the food for the most part. It was very fresh, packed with veggies and had some great flavors. Not every meal was great but that's expected. My gut health overall seemed to improve quite a bit. The bad is the delivery. As another review said, they consistently didn't deliver meals almost every single time. I would have over half my order missing every time. Customer service was responsive and gave me credits but it left me without meals and very frustrated. Secondly, the meals are quite expensive when you get a meat based protein and often include probably 3oz or so of meat. Way to little for the surcharge. I'm currently trying to find a good replacement. read more

Super yummy, flavorful, and healthy meals. We stick to dinners mostly, although sometimes I'll get one of the "lunch" salads and just eat that for dinner. Deliveries have all been on time and accurate. We love Thistle! My only piece of feedback would be that I'd like the portion sizes to be a bit bigger, more consistently. Sometimes serving sizes are as low as in the 300s calorie range for dinner. I'd prefer at minimum 500 calories. read more

I've been a thistle customer for like 6 months. As a new breast feeding mom it's just been necessary for me from a time/nutrition perspective. But the service has been absolutely atrocious. The deliveries are late/early left somewhere erroneous at least 1/4 or the time. The orders are wrong as often as not. I've never left a yelp review before. I started just so I could find some way to scream into the void about how bad it is because the customer service ppl just do not care. I fantasize about when my baby is weaned and I can cancel the shit out of this service. It's really a shame because the food is good. But I am so sick of being angry when I'm up at 11:45 at night with a sick baby, receiving a delivery that was left somewhere random, smelling like cigarette smoke and with 3 snacks instead of 3 breakfasts. Unbelievable. read more

I wish I had read some reviews prior to ordering. I first signed up for 3 meals a day, 5 days a week, when my first order arrived it didn't include breakfast, I then checked my account and saw I wasn't charged for breakfast even though my order confirmation lists all three meals. I ignored that because often I skip breakfast anyways and if I wasn't charged then whatever. The food was decent but it felt like I just got the same thing over and over again (with minor substitutions such as type of bean or type of dressing) which was a little disappointing because the Instagram page shows such diversity in meal options. For the second week my delivery was skipped Sunday and then again on Monday even though my partners was delivered (to the same address.) apparently re-delivery's are not possible so I just had to cancel my account. Two stars because some of the meals were really great and I know we're still in a pandemic, but the supply chain/ website logistics needs work if people are relying on this service for their food. read more

FOOD POISONING!!!! I've been using for awhile and the meals are meh (sometimes good but a lot aren't), customer service isn't great, but I got SO sick from their last meal. And, now I see others reporting. I agree that they protocols aren't protective and their "ice" bags are ridiculous. Plus, many times the meals are sitting in sauce. Wish they'd do better or be more interested in their customers. read more

I'm on day 2 and could not be happier. The random things I ate for lunch before....did not leave me feeling great. The time I save in food shopping, food preparing definitely makes the price worth it. I have had salads from them before, when friends would forget to cancel their orders I'd get free lunches for the week and I always noticed an increase in feelings of well being and mood during those weeks. Just hope there's future shifts from plastic containers to compostable and/or reusable containers. read more

The food is healthy and that's about it. The salads are just raw veg and canned beans slapped together, without enough dressing. The warm meals are also super bland and mostly mushy textured. I also personally couldn't handle eating this much fiber for every meal and became quite bloated. However, they are very healthy, and I like the emphasis on protein with each dish. read more

I am enjoying my deliveries and find the flavor profile and texture of meals very good. I have more energy and better gut health too! The portions are plenty for me. Sometimes I can't eat the entire dinner, especially after having a filling salad for lunch. Good to hear that biodegradable and/or reusable packaging is being looked at by Thistle. Otherwise, I would give them 5 stars! read more

I would give Thistle 5 starts for the meals themselves. However this is a review of my entire experience of Thistle. Unfortunately Thistle was only able to deliver my order on time and without issue roughly 50% of the time. I signed up for breakfast and lunch 5x per week. I am mostly on the road for work. Having a reliable vegan option to eat on the go is essential. My first weekly delivery is supposed to arrive Sunday night between 7 and 10pm. This week the order did not arrive at all and there was no communication until the following day. Thistle did send me an email explaining there was an issue with the delivery, and they did give me a full refund. However, Thistle did not solve my problem, as I never received the shipment. Had I known ahead of time I could have gone grocery shopping or come up with a backup plan. Instead I was forced into an unnecessary fast Sorry Thistle until you can get your delivery operation in order I will not be a customer. read more

So... thistle used to be really good. In fact, they used to be great! Their service has grown to be unreliable, food has missing items, delivery's missed, and not completed later. Today food came late which got my hopes up until I opened the bag to see smashed containers, lids not secured, and sauces and food all over the bag which was leaking on my front porch. They responded with $20 credit. Total insult to injury. Would not recommend. Sucks too because the food is usually really good. The service response, and delivery has gone really down hill. read more

I tried Thistle using a BlackBoard Eats deal and got three lunches delivered for about $20. The service itself is great. The website is easy to use, they list all the ingredients and nutritional information for every meal for the current and next week so you can see what you are getting, and the delivery is seamless and easy. Cancelling or suspending is also hassle free, which I really appreciate. The reason I can only give it 3 stars is that the lunches were pretty bland. I tried three different lunches and wouldn't buy any of them again. Day 1 - Hearty Sweet Potato Cauliflower Bowl with Ground Turkey. Day 2 - Asian Greens with Braised Turnip Bok Choy and Ginger Chicken. Day 3 - Root Vegetable Platter with Chicken Sausage. Each day was better than the last in terms of flavor, but I still honestly prefer the salads from Trader Joes to any of these (cheaper and less calories too). I know that the ingredients are organic / healthy / dairy free / gluten free and for "diet" food this is probably comparable in terms of flavor, but for 450-550 calories, you can do a lot better. And without the discount it would have cost $43.50 for three lunches... yikes.. read more

Consistently poor service and quality control. I love the idea of thistle but they are so shady. They consistently leave items out of my orders, have tiny portions, poorly packed meals that are delivered all thrashed about. They are incredibly expensive and repetitive. I was so impressed at first but I'm realizing how their promises are consistently broken. When they fail to deliver an item, their agents vaguely say they will "credit that amount" to your account. They don't explicitly say the number they will add back and I have not seen that amount subtracted from my next orders. It seems each week they mess something up. Even their delivery people have sent me rude text messages. They use thermoform plastic containers with no real plan to change that and pretend to care about sustainability. I have asked them on several occasions which recycling companies accept their containers and they have failed to inform me of a recycler that will. I'm devastated by how much plastic they use each week. If you bring it up to them, they just give you some nonsensical PR script about how eating plant based reduces carbon emissions. As someone with a university degree in sustainability, I cannot express how disappointing that is. The plastic is sharp and has cut my several times. One time they even delivered a shard of plastic in my breakfast and I had to throw it away! See the photo. read more

The food is great but the delivery is completely unreliable. The drivers come whenever they want and seem to drop off the food wherever they want somewhere in our building. When the customer service people had things redelivered the delivery was late and then there was a meal missing and another meal was the wrong one. Today the delivery came 1 1/2 hours too early in the early morning and the bag was dumped in front of our big high-rise building and it was open. I ordered a week of meals and clearly stated that I am allergic to hemp when speaking with Dani by email. They even ask you in their dashboard about allergies. The first lunch, I found a hair in my food. Medium length and curly, definitely not mine. I was able to get a refund and they offered me extra credits on my account. The dinner I had last night featured "pasta" that tasted undercooked and crumbly. complained about this again and was told that quinoa pasta was more crumbly - fine. They credited my account but I told them to take it back because that's what the food was supposed to taste. Not a huge deal. The lunch I had today had hemp hearts in it. Seriously? I never write reviews but this company is seriously negligent about their responsibility to customers and their health. I would never ever recommend their services. Stay far far away. read more

Great cleanse experience: -easy online ordering -FREE shipping, YES to my little town all the way from the big ole city! -customer driven, I ordered a couple days before a 20% coupon came out and they credited back the difference -transparency, nutrition facts of EACH juice and they do a quick calculation of the total cleanse, brainless, the way I like it -delivered in a timely manner -no nickling and diming here: totes are free -they know I'm adult enough to recycle their glass bottles and I appreciate the small lip, for my small pie hole, no drippage down my chin, YES, it happens on occasion Juices are not crazy sugary like many of their other competitors. Usually the beet drink is overly so, Thistle does it right and mixes spinach, cukes, chard and ginger in to dilute. LOVE. All the drinks are fabulous. I was trying to customize, by rotating in some of the other nut milks, I should have left their formula alone, Canary is super rich and filling. I longed for it on Day 2 and 3 of my cleanse. Drinks: GLOW - 4 OZ HUNTER VERDANCE CANARY RUBY 2 VERDANCE AUTUMN plus GINGER SHOT - 2 OZ Super generous bottles, 17 ounces, I could barely keep down 5 day a day. They also have nice little elixirs, Glow, turmeric, lemon and water to start your day. Ginger juice, which you can take any time, yeesh, I love the root, but this was STRONG! Kept my energy up and resulted in massive productivity the last few days: -worked -laundry -mall shopping -grocery shopping -yoga -weights -purged my entire closet and drawers = 7 bags for consignment/donations -read through tour guides and planned itineraries -vacuumed -dusted -mopped -spot painted marks on walls I didn't feel cranky or edgy at all during the entire process. The juices retained their flavor throughout the 3 days. Highly recommend. My tummy was not doing the usual gurgling on the 3rd day from the lack of food and fructose overdose. read more

I have been using Thistle for awhile now and have been really happy. The food is delicious and unique and they often use ingredients that are organic. They also use ingredients I have never had or don't typically like to prepare at home which is nice - gigante beans, fennel, leeks . . . Last week one of the dishes was a salad with vegan ranch dressing, the dressing was so good I want the recipe. As other reviewers said there are a lot of salads which I love. Typically the lunch is a salad and dinner is something you heat - chili, stews, ramen bowls, lots of variety. I also love that many of their vegan dishes have beans and nuts, I think I have only had two dishes with tofu. Delivery is easy but my experience was delivery is very early - between 4am and 5am. If you have to let the driver in your building that would be a problem. I would have them leave it in front of my door and the food was fine by the time I woke up, the bags are insulated and have two big ice packs. I have chatted customer service a few times with questions and they are always really responsive. It is also easy to stop service or update your plan - you have to let them know by Saturday at 10am if you don't want delivery the following week. read more

This is the healthiest I've eaten in my life! The meals are great, the deliveries are on-time, and occasionally they run out of stuff I've ordered but really all that matters is that I'm eating SO well. Like many of us, I'm short on time; I'm also allergic to completely raw fruits and veggies so I buy salads and then microwave them for 1.5 mins; most of them are meant to be eaten raw or heated and even if not, they still taste great warm. I get the snacks too. Thank you, Thistle, for making such a huge improvement in my life! read more

I really enjoy Thistle! It's fun to get random, super healthy, fresh dinners that only need to be heated up in a frying pan for a few minutes. Each week, it's fun to choose what meals you want on their website. Luckily, I really enjoy bean/legumes. They are a main staple of a vegan diet and are quite filling. There are not a ton of vegan protein alternatives so if you opt for the vegan meals, they will often include a variety of bean types and lentils (but also things like tofu, pea protein, seeds/nuts and rice). And, the sauces! WOW, I've never had such flavorful sauces that accompany the meals perfectly. They should bottle some of them and sell them separately as they would make any bland dinner quite interesting. I'd dump them over steamed broccoli any day :) I usually only order Thistle dinners, sometimes I order multiple dinners to also eat for lunch. Thistle's lunch offerings are exclusively hearty salads but I have a larger appetite so the dinners for lunch are my jam. However, the lunch and dinners have about the same calorie content. I live in San Francisco and I've never had a delivery problem. They've always just buzzed my apartment within the timeframe I selected and I buzz them in to drop my food in the lobby. Sometimes they don't take the bags back from my previous order but they eventually grab them. I am not vegan but I strive to be clever about what I eat and not always opt for animal-based meals. Thistle has given me some great ideas of actually delicious meal alternatives I could try to re-create that are not the usual American dinner of a meat, starch and vegetable. I highly recommend trying for even a month if you are trying to trying to eat less meat just for the inspiration. And, if you really need some meat, Thistle does offer animal-based protein toppings that look quality. read more

I tried Thistle for 3 weeks ( Breakfast and Dinner) and here is my review : Good : Food tasted fresh, delivery was on time. What could be improved : It's gluten free but that again makes it very limiting The ingredient combinations were weird at times. I am an Indian vegetarian who eats all kinds of vegetarian food. But some of the combinations seem to be created only to increase the protein content. Sometimes seemed like total random ingredients have been put together The business owners are familiar with Indian food I think and Indian food has 100s of tasty vegetarian options which people from all cultures are going to like but sadly it hasn't translated to the food here I will only recommend if you prefer a gluten free high protein vegan diet and find it difficult to create meals of your own read more
