I get addicted to subscription boxes easily. My latest addiction, which has lasted for about 3 years now, is food boxes. When I heard about Territory I just had to try it.
Territory is a bit different from other food boxes in that they don't ship a frozen box to your house with 3 meals that you then have to dethaw and choose which 3 days of the week you want to eat, then spend an hour (even though it says 30 minutes) prepping and cooking. Territory foods lets you pick your lunches, then you heat them up at work. Super easy. I'll add that you can also eat these for dinner - but I think they're aiming at the want-to-eat-healthy-at-work folks.
Territory lets you pay for delivery or lets you pick up your food from a small number of gyms. I opted for the 5 lunches plan with free pickup. There were about 30 different lunches to choose from, separated out into two delivery or pickup days.
I walked the mile and half through SoMa and found the gym tucked away on the corner. I walked in and was greeted by a dog. I love dogs so this totally made my day. I asked an employee (owner?) where the food was, and he directed me to the fridge, which was right next to the front door, and said to grab my food. Super friendly and a great vibe.
These meals can be microwaved or heated up on the stovetop. I chose to be a rebel and cook these in the toaster oven. I crafted a teepee shaped bowl-plate out of aluminum foil and poured the contents in, then popped them into the toaster oven for 20ish minutes (depending on when I remembered to go grab my food) at 350 degrees. I never burned the food but then again I wasn't testing the limits of how long I could leave them in there.
MEAL ONE
Spaghetti squash noodles and meatballs. The meatballs were more like sirloin chunks, not ground beef balls. This all tasted okay, nothing to write home about.
MEAL TWO
Avocado pasta. What I believe to be regular noodles in a light creamy avocado sauce, with a kick. I'm not sure what gave it that kick? There were also mandoline sliced zucchini and carrot slivers and a couple cherry tomatoes and mushrooms. Everything tasted fresh.
MEAL THREE
Chicken skewers. The company-provided lunch looked decent on this day so I took my chicken skewers home and planned to share it with my husband as an appetizer before dinner. Well, I got home and was about to put it into a dish that would withstand the oven (not sure if the plastic container can go in there - so I didn't risk it) and discovered that there was only one tiny chicken skewer (with 3 chunks of meat on it). The majority of this dish was the broccoli coleslaw. I heated up my food, ate my one tiny chicken skewer, and tried to eat the coleslaw but just didn't enjoy the taste enough to finish. It came with a BBQ tamarind dipping sauce plus another white sauce (totally blanking on what that one was called... it had a cooling effect which worked well with the BBQ sauce).
MEAL FOUR
The food started to get to me, just thinking about it brought on headaches. I couldn't force myself to eat meals 4 + 5. read more
